Nice, basically easy walk, which is on the old road. Beautiful views! Saw whales from on high. Great for a family with kids.

Really good hike. The hike gets really steep towards the north peak. Recommended to do it early in the day so you are done by noon.

Great length of hike and definitely I’d rate this as moderate l. Steep dusty uphills are rewarded with nice downhills in intervals. The views along the way are absolutely worth the sweat! Bring a jacket if it’s foggy because on the way back you’ll need it in the areas with all the trees! We’ll do this one again for sure.

Breathtaking view especially at sunset. Of course a must on every drive down Hwy 1!

Steep and beautiful views.

Very steep coming up or down from parking area...but not so steep that I had to slide on my butt.

Great place to bring your pup! Fun running in the dunes - great views

I love this hike. Great exercise even if you do half and just walk up to slyline and back.
My favorite time to hike is after the first rain. The smells and the trees are breathtaking.

Very short. $10 fee for parking if you park in the state park parking lot. And once you get to the walkway a large portion of it is closed off which was disappointing because it would be a much better view of the falls if we could go further out on the walkway/viewpoint. With that being said the portion of the walkway that was closed off did look very decrepit. But you’d think with the hundreds of dollars they make per day on parking alone that they’d fix the walkway of one of the most famous sights on Hwy 1 but I digress.
My suggestions would be to park along the highway to save the $10 (or pay and hope they fix the walkway at some point). I also think you may be able to see the falls from the Hwy just north of the parking lot. We missed it yesterday but are planning on stopping there today. It’s just a small turn out off the road but there were many people stopped there taking pictures back towards the direction of the falls.

Clockwise helps on to get the sun when climbing up, great vegetation and great views from the top!

Hidden gem sandwiched in between San Francisco and Half Moon Bay. Beautiful coastal views. Not as hectic as other over hyped trails in the area. Nice Fresh air. You might spot a whale or two on the lower end.

Beautiful and eerie pre-dawn October run up Montara Mountain. After heading out from the TH, I dropped down a bit and took the old road around a half mile in. About 2 miles in to the climb the trail gets a bit steep, but is non-technical and easy to follow even in the dark. I continued to climb up through and above the marine layer, feeling like I was in the Lost Boys. After about 4 miles, I reached the North Peak and took the fast decent back down.

It is a great hike during warm days. Nice balance of shade and open trails. Views at the top are incredible. If you make the hamms gulch trail (left side of loop) turn first, the incline is gradual and not steep enough ( at least for me). If you want to get straight incline on the beginning of your hike, make the turn at spring ridge trail first (right side of loop). The trail at Spring side is good for running uphill and downhill. There’s a lot of parking which I like but google maps brought me to the sequoia’s so had to turn and find the right parking lot. It is well marked in the beginning of the trail but got a little confusing at the top.

Did this hike with my dog today. Good work out, and it was pretty along the way though not the MOST interesting. The views at the top are a nice prize. Way more shade on the southern side of the loop. Probably saw 6 people the whole time.

A nice walk up and down, with great views from the top.

Always a nice hike, mostly shaded on the way up Hamm’s Gulch. (You can go back down the same way if it’s hot to stay on the mostly shaded trail.

This is more of a dog park than a trail. Great if you like dogs. To be avoided if you don’t like dogs or are running.

Was an easy hike and the views are breathtaking!

Amazing view from the road! Unfortunately you can’t take the path all the way down right now but you can walk down a bit and get a different view! It’s easy to miss off the road but it’s across from be Julia Pfieffer State Park sign!

A terrific little hike! Far more steep than I was expecting (this was hike #2 of the day!), but gorgeous views and enough variety of terrain to make it interesting. I recommend some shoes with very good grip, as portions of this dirt trail can get a little slippery. I was going at a pretty good clip and it took about 90 minutes. If you're looking for something a little longer, I'd recommend combining with the Devil's Slide trail which is right next door. I popped over to that trail briefly and saw whales surfacing!

One of my favorite finds driving down Highway 1- the view is absolutely stunning. Wouldn’t consider this a hike since you can park on the side of the road and find a path off the highway to get a better view. You can still see the tiny waterfall from the side of the road should you not want to enter the park or take the path down from the highway (half of the trail is currently closed).

Honestly one of the best views of the whole coastal drive!!! So so so worth it! I would recommend it to anyone!

gorgeous views. lots of sand and dogs
