I recommend detouring onto the big john trail
Trust the Blazes!!! The maps are way off! Beautiful hike, ample water - both flowing and ponds.
Nice trail
Great trail
A ton of scenery and elevation changes kept it challenging. Will definitely hike again!
Trail was great! Lots of elevation change and lots of scenery change. We hiked with our 4 yr old and 9 year old. They were able to do the entire hike, although they are semi experienced hikers.
Did this hike on Christmas. Beautiful hike and well marked.
Hiked only a small part of the trail. Partner did not want to continue up the rocks to the first crest. I went to the top and then came back down. Will come back and do the entire trail. Rocky and steep in places but doable.
Hiked rough canyon trail and Cattail loop as one loop. Rocky with a few fairly steep inclines. A few small stream crossings but nothing you will get your feet wet on. Follow the trail markers because the trail itself is sometimes hard to see. Enjoyed the trail. Would do again.
We went in fall but there was still enough foliage that we couldn't see out well at the top of the trail without reaching a look out point. Not many people, this is the most difficult of the trails in the park I would think. It is absolutely steep and difficult for several parts of the trail once you get lake side. It would be hard for an agile dog in some spots. 4 stars because the people at the information post were super rude.
Good trail! Lots of big rocks....maybe because it's shared with atvs...we burned some good calories and had a great day!
I’ve hiked numerous trails. Some incredibly rugged ones. This was the rockiest trail I have ever hiked. It took 4 hours out and back.
“How is it possible a round trip on the same trail can be uphill both ways?” Pioneer outdoorsman and explorer, Mike W. Beautiful weather hiking. It’s long with limited water so recommend ample supply. I went through 100oz by about mile 15. Ascent at start and 1/2 way point are challenging but not out of reach for most hikers. Very limited wildlife except for stick bugs making babies. Change in light throughout hike made return leg seem entirely sdifferent. 8.5 hours to complete with about 45 mins of rest throughout. Two weeks earlier would have been spectacular with the foliage changing.
Great trail. Will be doing it again.
