Hard as hell.

Once you hit summit, this is a real challenge. I’d rate it from difficult to very difficult. It’s more like bouldering than hiking.

Beautiful trail. The hike up was enjoyable. I think it would benefit if it had some trail markers on the main trail. Has a lot of offshoot trails and someone could easily get turned around if they weren't familiar with land nav. I took. couple of them on the way down. One of them led me too a more difficult rocky area. To me made it more enjoyable but could see someone getting hurt. The view from the top was amazing.

Nice trail with lots of trail fingers for exploring! My 9 and 5 year old cruised through this trail. Trail isn’t marked great but is easy to follow due to the traffic. Perfect for younger children!

Wonderful trail, beautiful but not crowded besides the last mile or so before the main park area. Some important things to know- there are plenty of water refill places along the entire trail, so don't waste water weight and carry a filter.
We started at what all trails calls the beginning (on the northern road) and never regretted our decision. Did some night hiking and saw tons of wildlife. The only thing I did not love about this trail was the lack of campsites (understandable, as most day-hike). Otherwise, 10/10. If you're looking for a remote, beautiful, and fairly hilly trail, this is it.

I’ve already hiked this once and can’t wait to do it again tomorrow. Bring plenty of water because you will need it.
@Ashley Allison- Hate to disagree with you but the trail is clearly marked (look at all the reviews) and it’s easy to follow as well. Perhaps you didn’t look hard enough.

Awesome scenic trail! Starts off across the road from dogwood campground. Park on the side of the road. You will see a big sign that says David Boren Trail and that is the trail head. Big hill to start with rewarding views! Trail continues up and down the ridges multiple small stream crossings plenty of water in early spring not so much in late summer and fall. Lots of good views and a nice water fall along bee creek. When you reach the river follow it north to the spill way which is the end of the trail. When you finish hitch a ride back to the trail head or road walk the mile and a half back. I’ve done this trail twice and it took me 7 hours at a comfortable pace.

Great trail. Can’t wait to complete the entire loop.

It was pretty tough but it was nice!

Never found the actual trail. Several people asked if we knew where the trail started too and no one seemed to find it? Not marked at all. We were really bummed- drove out 3 hours for a trail that we read as a great trail but couldn’t even find it! Good thing we already knew Broken Bow enough to go to get pizza and shop around.

Been living here in the Lawton/Fort Sill area for 6 years and while we’d been out the refuge area so many times, I’d never done a hiking trail until today. I took my 3.5 and 1 year old children with me. The 3.5 year old climbed his way up the bouldered areas and even made it down to the 40 foot hole all by himself! I carried my youngest on back and was able to climb up and down easily enough as well. It was a great first hike!

Many of the trails at the wildlife refuge are hard to follow but luckily this one is fairly easy to follow. The view at the top is beautiful and I like that it’s a little workout without being too strenuous! We have done this trail many times, it’s my favorite in the area!

Lots of fun, clean trail, a little overgrown by the lake with tons of grasshoppers. didn't make it all the way to the south end, so I will have to come back later this week. saw a heron, a few lake birds, and a lizard. it rained last night, and the trail was damp, but no mud.

Pretty good trail not very well marked but easy to follow. Went in the middle of the day which was a bad idea because it was so hot but the shade on the way up what nice. Once at the top I pretty much just got off the trail and free roamed which was nice. Great view at the top and real fun to boulder jump. One of the best parts about my hike was seeing a huge collared lizard. Overall it was nice easy trail and would definitely recommend going to if in town.

Pretty decent hike. Your back side will definitely feel it. Great scenery, best hike in OK so far. Overall, great adventure.

It's not well marked. But it even warns you ahead of time. I'm pretty sure I was off the trail within the first five minutes. But was a lot of fun. Looking forward to going back.

Amazing trail run. I only did the southern loop which ended up being longer than I had guessed (8.5 miles). Lots of vertical (1900+ according to Strava) and a bunch of options to stop and cool off in cool running water. Well marked most of the time, there are just a few short stretches where it’s a tad tough to follow. I only saw 4 other people during the whole loop. I’d come back again to this area just to run this trail.

Great hike. With the switchback we hiked 6.0 miles. The switchback is real slim with overgrown areas but beautiful. Over all. Great trail system. 5/5

What a gem tucked away in Oklahoma. I traveled to Lawton for work and found this trail. I was able to hike to the top and back in just under 2.5 hours, although I wanted to keep going. I was racing the sunset since I ventured out after 5p that day. When you get to the top of the trail you can see for miles, and you wouldn’t know at the trail head, but there are some really beautiful rock formations you can explore and climb once you get to the top. Very much wanted to spend more time on this trail.

The views while walking along this ravine the trail follows was beautiful, but having no shade made this hike very difficult, especially since it was during summer. Pay close attention to the trail because the markings is a bit off and can get confusing. If you get lost just walk along the creek and you should meet back with the trail in no time.

Even though it was crazy hot during our hike it was still amazing, there are a lot of signs for snakes so please be careful, you will be hiking both up and down hill a lot though more up then down it seems like but the hike to the top although difficult turned out to be very beautiful if you go on a hot day please please please bring Lots of water. It’s very nice and has two lakes and great views there is wildlife and a lot of cactus so watch out.

Trail is clearly marked! There are a few dry creek crossings where the trail is a little tricky to spot though. Make sure to grab a stick to knock down spider webs if you go in the morning.

A Tulsa gem and a challenging hike. Bring lots of water or a camelpack when it's hot out.

LOVED hiking this trail on and off! we went adventuring up and down the rockface and it was SO exhilarating with beautiful views, a couple of neat little caves and refreshing waters at the falls! also a big plus to have multiple options for camping! (cabins, tent, or rv)

Great trail. Very rocky with vertical gain making it moderate to difficult. However, my 9 year did fine. At the top, the area opens up wide with lots of side trails to explore. from the top go southwest for bouldering fun. take plenty of water.

Great trails

Hiked this with my daughter on 6-12-18 and used the West Scenic loop. Several areas where the blackberry’s and brush have overgrown the trail. Also some areas where trees have blocked the path and you have to work your way around. I also think some of the white tree markers were burned off and haven’t been remarked. I hiked this last year around the same time and it was in much better shape. I will do it again next year but definitely take a machete to hack through some of the brush.

This trail is beautiful and not too difficult. As you ascend Elk Mountain, the trail is partially shaded by blackjack trees which turn yellow and gold in autumn. The trail up the mountain can be tricky and is very rocky. I suggest good ankle support and extra water.
