SnowshoeingGreat!IcySnow

Trail was passable with ice spikes until the intersection to Francie’s hut. Snowshoes from there to Lower Crystal Lake. Made it about 500ft in elevation up from Lower Crystal lake on the way to upper. Stopped because snow fields were exposed and stability of the pack was questionable. Still - gorgeous above tree line and perfect day.

OHV/Off-road drivingGreat!IcySnow

Portions of the trail that don't see much sun due to tree cover can be packed snow cover with some icy spots. Sections facing south that don't see much shade can be completely bare. From a snow & ice perspective, the road to the trail head (Cedar Mountain) probably requires more attention to traction. The obstacles (Tippy V Notch and Chicken Scratch) are completely bare, as are the two steep hills in the last sections of the trail. All-in-all, a fun trail. 2016 JKUR with 3.5" lift.

snowshoes/spikes not needed if you're driven enough, but would be helpful in some parts. beautiful out there

HikingGreat!Snow

We hiked on Sunday morning 11/22 and just went to the first lake. It was cold at first but we warmed up quick and it was a beautiful day without wind. We had on trail running shoes and had no problem with the packed snow and a few slick spots. It was much less traveled than Mohawk lakes so that was nice. The views are incredible once you get to tree line. So worth it!

Fresh snow makes it hard. Snowshoes are needed about 1.5 miles in.

Beautiful hike. Some icy patches around a mile in but we were able to make it without spikes. Went all the way up to the upper lake and would reccomend it despite what other reviews say. I would say if you just do the lower lake it’s more moderate and not a difficult hike.

Lower lake is great. Started at 8 on a Friday and there were only a few cars in the lot. Didn’t see anyone on the way up and not too many on the way down. When I got back to the car there were lots of cars in the lot and along the road. I agree with an earlier review that the upper lake isn’t that great. I would have given this a 5 if not for the road/trail.

Crazy to see it without snow, snowshoed this in April. Awesome hike, attempted Crystal peak but couldn’t figure it out. Upper crystal isn’t really worth it in my eyes, but the views on the way up are.

Fun off road trail. Completed in my stock Chevy TrailBoss. Beginning and end was mainly dirt road but the middle portion was rocky and required high clearance. Lots of places to stop and take pics!

Curious to know if the gate is closed already for the season, love Websters Pass, usually just go up to camp for the weekend. Been up there multiple times in the past few years. Great for Jeeps, Short Wheel Base SUV's, and possibly a lifted Subaru. Would not advise 6ft length trucks or longer. I'm eeking by with a 5.5 Crewcab, and no lift. Advise to air down, rocks are a bit sharp in places. Can encounter snow, & mud in various places. Come in either 285, or from Montezuma. Webster Pass is an easy trip for the fam, can be steep in a few places, and uncomfortable for those who are not in control of the vehicle on those mountain spines.

Successfully completed this trail with my stock 2007 FJ Cruiser with only a little damage to my front skid plate. The steep climbs were definitely a challenge since they were snow covered and very slick. At times we were driving through over 1 ft of snow. I wouldn’t recommend this trail to anyone in a stock vehicle if there is snow on the climbs. When it’s dry it’s not too much of a challenge.

I didn’t do the whole loop it was really windy and snow in sections. I did about half the loop with some side trails. Ended up seeing some mountain goats and some great views.

OHV/Off-road drivingGreat!

Fun trail. There were a couple pretty technical areas (v-notch and chicken scratch hill), but nothing too difficult. Completed the loop in 1:30 with several stops for pictures in an FJ Cruiser on 33s with a 3” lift. Never came close to scraping the bottom, however we did pick up some Colorado pinstripes in some narrow sections. Overall this is a great trail system.

Started at 7:15am and only saw one truck / one hiker. The first mile is steep, then it is a more gradual incline. The lake was windy, peaceful and beautiful. Stopped at the lower lake today.
