Great trail, started around 9:30, had the entire place to ourselves!

Super fun road easy trail for all vehicles. Barely any snow 1-9-19 there is a off shoot at the very end if you go on it it is definitely a hard trail

12/8/2018 - A good amount of ice on the trail, so I would recommend spikes at minimum, but a fresh dusting of snow left the trail impassable with about 0.7M to the end (~1.5ft of snow, and I only had spikes on). Most of the snow on the first half of the road had melted, so not ideal for XC skiing or snowmobiling anymore I’d imagine. Only option for parking is illegal street parking.

Fun trail. Did it today to test out my new (to me) stock ‘18 JLU Rubicon. Not much snow. Good views and just enough obstacle challenges to scare my 12 y.o. daughter.

Great winter hike! Did this one today, and there is a ton of snow, but we managed with just spikes. There were a lot of people snowshoeing and cross-country skiing -- good trail for that as well. The lake is completely frozen over, but the views are amazing.

Very fun trail did it in a 2008 4Runner and a 2008 fj cruiser little bit of snow this time of year but not a lot to affect trail conditions to bad

Cool network of trails in the Mt Evans wilderness. Really close to Barbour forks and Cascade Creek too. Fairly easy trail when dry and more challenging when muddy/snowy.
I've see stock 4x4s up there. As of this past Christmas weekend, it is closed to vehicles for the winter.

went out this past weekend 12/22/18 and the gate was down and locked, apparently it is closed.

Drove this last Sunday in my stock 4 door 2016 rubicon. A little snow & Ice in a few places but not bad. Rocky at the start but gets easier the further you go.

Did the trail today in my stock 2018 Tacoma TRD off-road. Fun little trail! Nothing that pushed my truck too hard. The initial climb from the Gross side has a few flexy/rocky sections that required some line choice, after that the trail eased up. Mostly dry today with a small amount of snow and ice.

Great loop, easy to do, plenty to see, plan 2 hours for this trail
02 Suzuki Vitara, no lift, highway tires, slow and steady. And yes, the navigation works on this trail

Beautiful views! I brought my dog to hike and she loved it- we met several other people with dogs too who were all very friendly. I didn’t wish I had snow shoes until the end when I started sinking in waist deep snow and my dog started disappearing completely under the snow- it was moderately challenging but well worth it!

Disclaimer!if you follow the GPS you'll come to the start of the trail there's a little turnaround area and the road leads to left with the signs saying no parking gate ahead turn around here. ignore this! there's no closed gate. While you're driving on this road there will be signs everywhere saying no trespassing private property, this road doesn't appear to be private property it is a access road to get back to all the houses that are back here. Just stay on the trail and you'll be fine. Shortly after horse trailer parking the road dirt and really smooth. I just turned around and went back. trail in took like 35min and that was stopping for pictures and waypoint entry.
Trail was moderate but on the EZ side of moderate. Some narrow paths for the first mile maybe.

Easy trail with moderate spots. Some drops over 18 inches. Can be a little slick where there’s snow. No problem at all for our vehicle (jk wrangler with 3 1/2 lift and 35 tires), but maybe smaller tires or less clearance could be a problem in a couple spots. Great views and many spots to pull off or camp. Saw several other vehicles along the way(Saturday in October), so I would consider it moderately trafficked today. I have added this as one of our favorites for an easier trail.

We really enjoyed this hike. We encountered only one other trail user. We used winter hiking boots with crampons. This was sufficient to make it all of the way to the end of the trail. No need for snowshoes or backcountry skis today. It snowed throughout our hike and was windy, especially when nearing the lake at the end. There's a waterfall flowing into the lake which isn't frozen over yet. A thin layer of ice currently coats most of the lake. A standard car with good all season tires can make it to the foot of the trailhead.

Quick little pop in this afternoon. Was fresh snow on the ground and some icy areas in other parts. My first trail and review so I was thinking about the braking coming down. No problems in a stock Tundra. Hope to do this one again in the summer.

Stock Wrangler JLU up and down with ease in 4wd High at the end of summer. Fun trail with great rewards; more to explore in Jeep and on foot. Nonmotorized use allowed year round according to gate’s sign in the AllTrails photos, Sean D, but it also says no parking at the gate.

Taco, 2.5” lift, 33s

This is not a difficult trail. I would rate it as a more standard “moderate” with few sections requiring much clearance. Most stock trucks and SUVs with moderate clearance should have no problem (Xterra, Taco, 4Runner, etc.), but it’s not built for your Subaru. Practically all features have an alternate path around. Air down or be prepared for a rough, bouncy ride as it’s a rocky trail. Expect some traffic on the trail.

*If you’re exploring the trail network and you are not driving a very capable vehicle, steer clear of Red Elephant. Super tricky trail.

Current conditions are snowy. From the top of the short descent to the lake itself, it’s almost entirely snow covered (4-8in). For this reason, bring a capable vehicle. You’ll need to climb a relatively steep pitch in snow on the way out. The lake itself is frozen right now, in case you’re looking for a view.

Good confidence builder for a beginner. Any stock 4x4 with off road tires and no rear sway bar should be able to handle this short trail. Going east to west just after the trail begins there is a rocky rutted climb that will force you to choose a good line if you don’t have a locker. Just up from that there is an off camber where your passenger side will be rock climbing while your driver side is flirting with the edge. The rest is just a power line right of way with some minor wash outs.

Question - can you still hike to the lake with the gates officially closed?

closed for the season as of Oct 18, 2018. disappointed. I took my stock Raptor up, zero issues... not even close to breaking a sweat. With a stock half ton truck, you will likely bottom out in a few spots, especially the first rut. Subarus won't make it without damage, end of story. looked promising but the gate was closed about 3/4 mile up. tight turn around.

Nice little trail. Just let the suspension do it’s thing in a couple of spots and threw around some mud in a few times. Not technical at all but my passengers were thrilled.

2017 JKU 2” BB lift 33” Duratracs @ 25psi. I always air down for comfort and peace of mind, regardless of technicality of trail.

BLUF: this is not an easy trail! This is a moderate trail. At least 3 spots that required technical driving and someone guiding you. Not entirely a problem, made it more fun, but you shouldn’t go alone. Nice little pullouts to grab lunch and a beverage. Scenic for a the majority. I love how close to Denver it is!

good, did it in my 2008 RAM stock

Nice trail. Was easy enough in my '14 Tacoma Baja. nice trail tips in app made navigation a breeze.

Did it in a stock 2014 Nissan frontier with my 5 year old and one year old And wife had no problems had 30 psi Leftkit would be nice but not necessary

Hiked the whole road, though most people opted to off-road in vehicles. Pretty and scenic; the waterfall at the lake was beautiful. It started snowing while I was there and the fall colors looked beautiful with it.
