I’ve ridden this trail a few times. It’s beautiful. I’ve hiked it too. I love the parts with open shade. When hiking you can get much farther back than you can on horseback. A great easy hike anytime, but even better when the water is flowing.

This trail was very pretty. good climb up but not much shade. Definitely would be best to do early am or in the evening. Very pretty views up top and trees the kids climbed etc.

Nice but no discernable end point

this place was beautiful! lots of shade and awesome views! Our dogs and kids loved it here!

Easy trail with great scenic areas.

tough but nice uphill climb... need more single tracks for downhill.

Great experience!!!

I hike this one for a quick hard workout twice a week all year round , summer is brutal and almost stepped in a Rattlesnake but I take it to Whitney canyon and dip right into the waterfalls during our rainy season

Gabby didn’t make it all the way

Easy, gradual, mostly flat hike. Lots of shade. River/stream was bone dry. (August). Took my dog and could only make it up the first two dry waterfall areas near the end of the trail. Would have liked to have ventured further if I did not have my dog and a hiking companion. I concur on previous posts about insect repellent. This was a midweek hike so we only came across two other (couples) hikers on our way back. Saw a couple mule deer and lots of lizards that my dog loved chasing into the brush. Best as an early morning, early evening hike when temperatures are 80 and above. Bring plenty of water for your dog on this and every hike. I have a clip on mini, collapsible bowl he carries hooked to his harness. Remember if we are warm and heated...they are wearing a fur coat. Lots of shade here to cool them down.

I went hiking alone on this trail yesterday evening for my first time. It was not challenging in incline, but in awareness of surroundings. There is something very inexplicably ominous about this trail to me. I would definitely go again, but not alone during dusk and without insect repellant.

I went on this trail on 8/18/18 for my first time alone for some me time and meditation. This trail does NOT disappoint. It's a real butt buster, and the most exciting part to me was how close to the edge some parts were! I can't wait to go back to this trail!

Good trail to watch the sunrise. I hit this trail at 6:20am. No shade on the trail so on the summer its brutal. Good steep hills to work out the legs and have a nice sweat.

I love this trail, especially after a wet winter when the creek and waterfall are really flowing. I've also seen quite a bit of deer on this trail.

Great loop close to home, G.Hills. Good workout with ups and downs. Several changes of scenery. Make loop a figure 8 by crossing loop on Creek Trail twice and can get in 5.5 miles. Beautiful summer Sunday morn 9-11 am and saw only 6 people!

It was a really nice hike a little steep at times. Make sure you wear shoes with a grip as I slid down a few times on my way back. I will be back soon

There is no waterfall on this trail; that is the OTHER Whitney Canyon trail. This one follows the Santa Clara Truck Trail up to the summit of Los Pinetos, which is mainly occupied by radio towers. By all means hit the summit, but I would suggest going just past the spur to the summit, to Wilson Saddle. There are picnic benches and toilets there, a much more pleasant place to stop and rest.

We hiked it, but it is probably more fun as a MTB route. Long, steady ascent on an old road grade, with views that change slowly. No shade on this route, so plan accordingly.

Has some great vistas, but can hear highway noise in the distance and can see it at some points. If you live close though it’s a nice workout if you combine with the fire roads that extend off of this trail.

Fair with nice shade.

Fun little loop. I've driven past this are my whole life and always wondered what was back there. Now I know. The trail was in good shape, about half road and half trail. Right now is probably the best time to hike this trail, summer temps can get out of hand.
Spring is in full effect throughout the canyon with green hills and wild flowers blooming almost everywhere.
The back side of the trail is a little sketchy in parts but its totally manageable.

A little more uphill then expected. Very pretty views of Santa Clarita. I think it’s longer then 3.4, closer to 4 miles.

Short and steep. Nice views from the top of the old Melody Ranch western movie set.

I think I went the wrong way, trails aren’t exactly marked. It was more of a nature walk than a hike. The waterfall at the end was neat but I don’t recommend letting your dog up there if you bring one. It was not easy or safe getting my 55lb Shepherd mix back down.

My parents, my 7 year old and I did this trail. We are beginners at hiking and although the uphill made us take a few breaks, it was very doable. Once you get closer to the top the trail does get rocky and slipper but other than that the trail seemed well maintained.

Had an awesome hike here on 3/29/18. I agree with others about signs being limited on the trail, good thing I had reception and was able to download the map! thank you all trails! .. so we took the Elsemere loop, which led to the fire road, however the road keeps going, which we kept following, until I realized we weren't on the trail anymore, the road continues to the right about a mile up, but we had to stay in the left after I glanced at my phone, it was a nice detour tho, we were able to see some caves on the side of a beautiful mountain.. once we got back on track the views were stunning! everything was so green from the recent rain falls.. we didn't run into a waterfall, just a small flowing creek, still so gorgeous tho!

Loved all the trees. The kids loved all the tall grass.

Easy hike to a small seasonal waterfall. You can make it somewhat harder with some easy scrambles up rocks to go further up the canyon, but if you have small kids or a dog, the first waterfall is a good place to stop and splash around.

Fantastic views of mountins and oak woodlands in what was once slated to be the world's largest landfill. The views are only marred by high voltage lines in the first half, but the second half of the loop, following the Creek Trail, feels miles away from Hwy 14, which is not far away but out of earshot.

Been hiking this beautiful trail for at least two years now, after heavy rains the waterfalls and streams are amazing .. A few weeks back I saw a mountain lion about 50 feet in front of me .. Seen plenty of deer and signs of cougars but this was my very first encounter.. so be Careful , keep dogs on leash and kids very close ...
