relatively low traffic. Snow and ice were a problem for mild vehicles. Will try again with nicer weather. Some moderate areas with the harder stuff deeper in trail.

great snow right now!

Very awesome, only did it halfway due to my tires.

Beautiful, great views, clean trail. My wife and I took the trail from near Glacier Lake down to the trailhead at Sugarloaf. Mostly snowpacked and no problem for our 2017 Jeep Renegade.

Pretty solid drive, I got stuck in the snow twice because I am an idiot. That being said we used the trail network to get to St. Mary’s. Snowpack there is pretty firm, taste 7/10, texture 8/10. Some of it definitely had a distinct Cheesecake Factory smell, but that might have just been the mink poop.

Great trail, the snow and ice made it a little difficult.

Easy road, lots of great views, we did it into the night and was still very fun

Fun as hell I did in my stock Sahara!

Super easy for a Jeep, mostly just good views, there’s a couple spots along the way to pull off and check everything out.

My buddy and I took our trucks up here. Had a great time. I’d say the trail is moderate but there is one section that is very technical. Right next toe Quartz Hill. The right side was tough for my friend without lockers. He ended up breaking an islet arm. My Raptor did just fine.

Taco, 2.5” Lift, 33s

Fairly narrow in spots with a few semi-difficult features, most of which have an alternative route. A stock truck/SUV would be capable enough for the majority of the trail. In terms of narrowness, it’s not narrow enough to pull in the mirrors but it’s narrow enough to add some light scratches. Wouldn’t bring a big truck in there. First 3 miles-ish are pretty slow moving, but it opens up just as you encounter a nice view.

Connects to a network of trails accessed from Apex Rd. Note: there is one small section of the trail that has been blocked off. When you encounter it, use the AllTrails map to take the shortest path around (pretty intuitive).

Not the most challenging or scenic trail, but it’s a good trail with relatively quick access from the front range. I would rate this trail as moderate, considering the alternative routes for most features.

Both my stock 96 Cherokee and stock 00 explorer did this trail without any issues. who set the rating for this trail?

Nicely groomed road. Would not only come here for this road. This is a good trail to get back to the highway after doing other trails in the area. I took this after Pickle Gulch.

Amazing trail with some difficult sections. With good tire placement, no bypasses are needed.

good, medium hard trail for UTV's. nothing too crazy at all.

Fun trail for sure. Take all the side trails. Fun rocks to climb and a couple obstacles you actually have to look at taking the proper line. You need to walk a few hundred yards to get to the plane crash area. Pretty neat.

Beautiful trail. A little tricky in some spots. Very rocky. Nice fall drive.

good trail to take your jeep for a nice drive

This is a beautiful trail that gets increasingly more difficult. Most of the trail I traveled was slow going, bumpy and rocky with a few sections that had me wondering but wasnt bad after doing it. There are little off shoots and trails that look fun but not many places to park and enjoy. Up until Pisgah Spur most 4x4 vehicles will be alright, however, right before there and at that section you will certainly need a more serious jeep. I could not get past that section and had to back up down the hill and thats when I got in trouble. I got stuck and had to be rescued. I was very lucky to have cell service and called Co 4x4 Rescue. They are life savers. 2.5 hours later they showed up with a convoy of jeeps in the dark and bailed me out. Needless to say I felt really stupid that day. Lifted F350. Keep this on you... 4x4 Rescue... 720.722.1204.

-I dont know if I managed to miss all the obstacles, but I would rate this trail easy

-i wouldn't go unless you are in an ATV, so many of them already. I was worried about hitting them as they flew around corner.

- there are better trails close by

Switzerland trail was not a challenge at all! we saw a mini van out here. look out for lots of pedestrians on foot and on their pedal bikes. IF you choose to go down Pennsylvania gultch, then make sure you have a good 4×4 and clearance. It is extremely tight and very challenging. stock jku Rubicon

Been doing this trail for years. Rough and smooth riding at times. Continued to the Rockhouse via different trail. Take map, numerous trails intersect.

Basic dirt road up, but head a bit further to Utah Hill and hit some of the forest roads off of Apex for more fun.

I literally felt like I had reached a pot of gold at the end of the Moon and Gamble Gulch trail in Black Hawk, Colorado. Not because there was some fantastic view at the end of the trial, no ending climax here, instead the entire length of the trail was a wave of emotions fueled in part by anxiety, quick thinking, heavy breaking and most of all a ludicrous amount of profanity worthy of any fine pirate vessel; what was my pot of gold then? Getting out without a single scratch, dent, or broken part in what I undoubtedly thought would be the day I would roll off of a narrow one way road.
Would I do it again you ask? Does a Pirate drink rum?

Did it for the first time this past weekend. Moon gulch definitely sketched me out where it's all leaning to the edge but I made it no problem in my xj. There are lots of offshoots to the main trail so this could have a lot of potential for camping and such. Only saw 2 FJ's on the trail. Not the most fun in my opinion but it's a nice area.

Took my gmc Jimmy up there and camped. When you come to a fork in the road right is private land blocked off and left is the actual trail. Pretty great camping spots actually. Easy drive trail. Saw a Subaru Outback after dark.

Would recommend this to anyone able to drive the trails with decent clearance and four wheel (although we didn't need it much) We jeeped it, very gorgeous views, also getting out and hiking around with our dogs @thecoloradogs was a blast and they enjoyed everybit of it. Give us a follow on Instagram and check out some of our adventures, maybe it'll help ya choose your next trip!

Excellent technical off roading. It's not crazy hard but at times you will absolutely need 4wd low, a short wheelbase and extra clearance and a narrow vehicle. I suspect full size trucks would have some real problems at times.
Started from the west side from Moon Gulch and headed east. First half is fairly easy and fun and then it suddenly gets some real attitude.
Some really fun rock crawling and a few places that either require a spotter or getting out and walking the trail to get a path. Lots of 4wd low and 1st going down rocky slopes.
Only reason I rate this a 4 is because there isn't a huge variety of scenery. It's pretty but it's all the same kind of pretty from beginning to end. For just technical off roading fun this trail is a hoot! Hard enough to make you feel like a hero, but not so hard that I ever worried about my Jeep.

Scenic enough but not amazing. Off reading is easy, requiring 4wd (at times) and some stock compact truck or Jeep clearance (at times). Enjoyable and easy off road trail for anything that is stock rugged.
Just drove Moon Gulch. Before hitting Gamble Gulch we jumped over to Pickle Gulch.
