Hiking

Very quiet during the first 2 miles or so then many more hikers show up towards the summit. Dont skip the beginning. Its pretty and quiet in there minus the parkway sounds.

Hiking

Last half mile was a straight uphill climb, and teeming with people since it attaches to a parking lot/road overlook. Beautiful views at the trailhead and along the trail, next time I would probably turn around at the upper parking area and head back.

HikingGreat!

We parked at the Pisgah Inn and walked to the Pisgah Campground just down the road a bit to pick up the trailhead. Made it to the top and back down in 3 hours in plenty of time for our lunch reservation at the restaurant at the Pisgah Inn. Great place to have an after hike lunch! This was a hard hike but so glad we did it. Totally worth it!

HikingMuddyRockyWashed out

We went on March 15th, 2021. We got lost on our way to the upper falls, which made it take a lot longer than it should have. We missed a turn and went off trail for a while. Lots of mud and washed out areas. We felt like the end on the way to the upper falls was more challenging than the other parts of the trail. My 8 year old was with us too. She did great. We chose this trail because there are bathrooms at the trailhead, but they were closed due to COVID. We enjoyed it, but feel it could’ve been marked better.

Nice trail but the tower at the top takes a lot away from the hike.

HikingGreat!

My favorite spot. A quick hike to the most beautiful views. I love longer hikes but when I need to get out there fast this trail offers a nice climb to increase the heart rate and work up a sweat, beautiful views and it always looks different - the shadows and the weather change it so much. It can get crowded in the summer and on weekends so plan accordingly.

HikingGreat!

Lovely hike. Short and easy to follow, with nice views from the platform at the top. Steep in some sections, but not a big challenge. Unless the highway is closed definitely drive to the Mt. Pisgah trail parking area, about a mile from the Mt Pisgah Inn. Only about a 1 1/2 mile hike from the trail head to the top.

Moderate intensity. Lots of slick rocks due to the rain. And some larger puddles. But so pretty. I did not make it to the top though so keep in mind while looking at my recording. Parked on the left area near the overlook.

Be sure to check the weather! Cloud/fog will obscure the views and make the drive more difficult. Even though we had minimal views, the hike itself was very enjoyable. Our dog had a great time as well.

HikingOff trailRockyScramble

The turnoff to Yellowstone Falls is decently obvious, especially with this recording as reference. You cross Yellowstone Prong near the top of the upper YS falls, so be aware of that dropoff. Then you scramble down the side of the gorge, crawling under a very loose-ground, overgrown Rhododendron grove. Halfway down, there's a relatively flat, low-flow area that provides a good view of the YS upper falls. Be aware that this is extremely close to the top of the YS lower falls and that is not a drop you would survive without serious injury. The rest of the way down is pretty much a crawl. Pretty sketchy, but worth it; can't imagine too many people get down to the falls due to the technicality and risk. More impressive than Second Falls imo, and much more isolated. Rock-hopping down the creek was fun as hell and relatively easy (plenty of boulders for the technical areas, plenty of smaller rocks in the easier shallower areas). Definitely recommended as long as it hasn't rained recently. Be aware of potential surge and landslide conditions as the creek is very closed in and inaccessible.

Great fun trail. Lots of rocks and roots. Very muddy! Need good shoes for spring hikes! Note, that my recording is only from the parking area to the top of Sam's Knob.
