Beautiful and easy!

Overrun with tourists but well worth it anyway. Fantastic views --especially at sunrise.

Nothing unusual about this hike, great walk. Really nice views and some good photo opportunities morning, noon or night.

One of the prettiest hikes we've ever done. Beautiful views all along the way. Wear tennis shoes as the trail is quite worn and would be slippery if it was wet. Parking is very limited, so prepare to hike a bit just to get to the hike.

We didn't do the whole trail, just to the second pillbox and back down. We started around 10 and there was a large crowd at the top. I bet this is beautiful at sunrise!

This one is a nice walk if you like to people watch! The route in AllTrails could do with a little adjustment as it puts you in the ocean on a couple of occasions which makes walking a bit if a challenge also should be noted that a few places along the route have adjusted there landscape. Over all lots of sand, people, shops to visit and of course tourists.

Harder hike than just moderate, but it is fairly short to the first pillbox. But holy crap it’s literally just a steep climb up rocks to get there.

You get what is advertised.

Hiked December 2018,
The trail starts in the back of a pretty upscale neighborhood high up in mountains. It’s in a gated community and you actually have to get a permit to be allowed in. The first part of the trail is actually a service road. The path is well defined and it starts off a little muddy. It clears up for a bit though before it gets alotta muddy at certain parts. Maybe we just picked a bad day to hike but I would definitely recommend bringing an extra pair of clean shoes along for the ride back home.

Anyway, once you actually get in the thick of this hike the view at the top is pretty cool. It was raining when we went but we were lucky enough to get some good open views of the city before the clouds set in on us. We decided to turn around just shy of the end unfortunately because not only were we ill prepared for the rain, but also because there is a part where our old pup couldn’t make it past so we took the opportunity and called it a day. I’ll be back to pay it a revisit at a later date.

Great hike with lovely views at the top, sadly we didn’t get to see the views at the top looking over the other side due to being cloudy but still worth it for the views back over. Did this hike 11th December and toke us just over 3 hours in total. It was very muddy and slippy at times but manageable even when we got caught in a rain shower. At the end there is some ropes in places to help you up. There is parking for about 6/7 cars and the lovely security card will give you a card to display on your dashboard. The path was really easy to follow and we only saw 3 others doing this walk.

You will know once you reach the terminus. There will be a sign warning you not to proceed further. There will also be a small bench for one to enjoy the sweeping views, on a clear day. You should be able to see the windward side. Once you reach the FM station, there will be one more hill to climb. If it has been raining, it can get pretty slick and muddy.

Tourist crawl with amazing views.

Great, rewarding, steep hike. If you go on a partly cloudy or cloudy day you will only see mist towards the tops of the ridges and not much of a view. When you reach the set of stairs and think you’re done, you’re not. When you next think you’re done, nope, keep going. Ah, finally! You have reached the top. Just kidding another false alarm! I think the last 45 minutes up we kept thinking we MUST have reached the top as there were no other higher peaks around us. The clouds are deceiving. We plan to go back on a sunny day. A few parts with ropes but you don’t really need them to climb. I would recommend this hike

what a great hike! incredible views! wear proper shoes!!!

If you want a hike that gives you views of the ocean and coast and not terribly touristy or hard, this is it.

* Steep from the get go. Bring actual footwear with grip
* Gets windy, people lost hats and shades. I almost did
* Past the second pill box is really overgrown. Bring a machete a wear long pants.

I went to the fourth "pill box" at the 1 mile mark is tiny compared to the first 3. (#1 is by itself, 2 and 3 are together) and after that the trail is really overgrown. I saw some folks ahead of me really struggling so I turned back as I didn't have a machete, or long pants.

Lovely 360 views, headed here for sunrise and was still quite busy. The trail on from the pillboxes was pretty quite. It rained while we were there and the path did get pretty slippy and would recommend shoes with a fair amount of grip. Also on the way down there is a lot of small paths branching off so use all trails to get back down. It was a Saturday and there was a guy in a car just before the trail head ensuring people don’t park there but there is plenty of parking along the road further on down.

Long, winding, but paved. Friendly hike, nice views of the ocean!

This ridge hike on east Oahu shares many similiar features and views with other hikes nearby like Waahila-Olympus, Ka’au Crater, Mau’umae/Lanipo, Wailupe Ridge, Hawaii Loa Ridge, Kulepeamoa Ridge, Kuliou’ou Ridge ( both east and west), Hahaione ( there are several ways to do hike this), Kamiloiki Ridge, Mariners Ridge ( closed) and Kamehame Ridge ( need permit). You can also start from the Makapuu Lookout and hike along the Koolau Summit via the Makapuu Tom Tom trail which passes the Makapuu Puka. These are just some of the more popular ones on east Oahu.

Give about 3-3.5 hrs to complete this hike.

Really great views!

Steep slippery trailhead. Beutjful views from the ridge.

This one was a little tough especially since I Uber there and the driver would only take me so far. But it was all worth it for the amazing views that this trail provided. I would do it again!

Most of the listed trails are very easy to do. Its best to combine them for a longer hike.

If the trail isnt part of Na Ala Hele, it is not maintained very well.

One of the easiest way to get to the top of the Koolau Range. Today it might be the easiest route since they already closed Mariners Ridge and Kamehame Ridge to the public. Oh well if you are too lazy to walk, just drive up to the Pali Lookout and you can boast to all your friends you made it to the top of the Koolaus!

This is definitely not a difficult trail unless this is your first ever hike in your entire lifetime.

This hike will take anywhere from 2.5-3
hrs to complete on a walking pace.

Awesome one!

Quick, steep and relatively easy. Sliding mud in a few parts but overall quite simple.

Makapu'u Point Lighthouse Trail is a paved and and scenic trail. You are given unobstructed picturesque views of the ocean, diverse terrain, and of course the historic lighthouse. Makapu'u Point Lighthouse was once an imperative navigational guide, and now it is a beautiful piece of architecture that everyone should experience in person. There are some other separate unpaved trails toward the top of the paved trail that lead to some pill boxes and offer opportunity to be more adventurous. I would suggest doing this trail shortly after it opens (I believe 7 am) as the parking fills up quickly. I recommend this trail for all skill levels and even families.

Fantastic and fun Hike. View at the top doesn’t disappoint.

11/30/2018. This was a nice hike if you have lots of time, it’s quite long and thankfully I went on a day when there was no rain so the trail was very dry. It wasn’t busy at all, only ran into a handful of people. It is relatively easy for the first half and then the rest is quite difficult with lots of steep hills and steps. I found the hike to be somewhat boring but the views when you get to the top we’re amazing. The trail is also hard to follow at times with no clear path, I had to access the AllTrails map a few times to make sure I was staying on the right path.
