Favorite trail on the island!! BEAUTIFUL. Very muddy.. but easy to follow and well marked. We walked barefoot all the way back because of the mud. Totally worth it and magical. A long one fs though
Most of the hike I would classify as slightly easier than moderate, but the last 0.2 would be slightly harder than moderate with a steep muddy decline and then having to hop across the water twice.
Fun trail with a few waterfalls at the bottom, it’s getting drier so was more of a trickle but fun no less!
Amazing Low traffic hike and beautiful waterfall to jump in. Tougher way back than there.
Amazing trail. Not for the weak. We finished the loop in 4 hours and we were booking it. Follow the pink markers if you get lost. I recommend plenty of water and a fully charged phone. Pants are helpful as the overgrowth was scratching my legs. We also applied bug spray several times as the mosquitos were present. We finished through the guava grove and snagged some natural snacks: A shout out to our fellow hikers from Detroit. They were kind and brought some life to the trail as it was quite empty. There’s only about 5 parking spots. Go early. Oh yea, you would be wise to bring gloves as there are several spots that require the use of ropes (thanks for whoever install those!).
This is a beautiful hike. Very muddy but it is worth it.
Being at the top was incredibly, the view and the wind seemed to be just perfect. Took few unintended detours, following markings could lead you off the main trail, so just have a map and check it at forks.
Beautiful beautiful views at the top. Really amazing. But it was muddy today and going down was a slip and slide. Definitely be prepared to get dirty and maybe slip a few times. The top is overgrown so bring long pants if your legs are sensitive. Bug spray is also needed in the morning.
Tons of people on the trail, I went with my dog so we continued after the falls towards the Maunawili Trail (via Maunawilli trail connector) and went right to the base of the K1 trail. That part of the trail was very calm, we met just three groups of folks there. Bottom part (Maunawilli falls trail) was very muddy but as soon as we got to the ridge, it was dry and very nice there.
There were some beautiful views, but it was super slick and muddy. Tons of folks on the trail. Felt like I could wipeout with practically every step. Took two hard falls. Strongly recommend trail shoes with deep treads and trekking poles. One of the hardest trails I've done.
Great adventure hike! One of our favorites!
Pretty dry day today, we did the full loop but took quite a while. We actually went clockwise instead of the common clockwise and maybe even preferred that route. Unbeatable views.
The trail is extremely good! Definitely worth it. Not super muddy, you can get out clean if it wasn’t raining before. Recommended!!!
Muddy at all times. Otherwise great.
Excellent trail, but not for the moderate hiker. Lots of scrambling, rock climbing with ropes and difficult footing. Absolutely stunning ridge views, beautiful beginning to end. WAHINE: middle portion on return from ridge, sharp thigh high thorns. Recommend bringing pants for that section! Choke cut up.
This trail was so much fun! Good workout, not very difficult, beautiful nature walk and views at the top. Would suggest hiking in water shoes because you cross the stream a few times and it is quite muddy. My pup hiked with us and loved it. Will definitely do again!
MUD! There is so much mud on the entire trail. The mud really slowed us down and overall it took ~9 hours. We got lost twice and have done this trail before. Check this map if there is ever a question of which way to go, since the pink trail markers really thin out. Amazing trail/favorite on the island, but would not recommend for non-experienced/serious hikers. This trail offers a little bit of everything: boldering, scrambling, rope climbs, waterfalls, jungle, ridge line, epic views.
