Aloha! I typically hike up 1-3 times a week for almost 3 years now. Went up 7 times in the last 13 days. I will be going again this weekend Saturday and Sunday. I have probably done this particular hike more than anyone else on island. (over 100+ times) It is often windy and/or rainy but we never have issues as we always have the right gear (including microspikes and gloves) which are supplied by me when we go. If you're looking to hike and want to link up or get some ideas of what this trail looks like feel free to reach out to me on my Instagram @mike.karas or mikekarasphotography@gmail.com. Bring plenty of water for this hike and other hikes out here in Hawaii.

Wasn’t marked very well. The all trails map saved us!!

Was really muddy

Heya! I'm looking to do this hike on Feb 19th or 20th. If anyone is interested in joining or already planning the trek, let me know! Canadian on vacation looking to get some pre-frisbee tourney adventure in! Reach me at aaron_zucker@hotmail.com or @aaron.zuck

By far the best hike I have done so far in Hawaii!!! I will not discourage anyone from doing this hike but please know that there will be some climbing to get to the top of the peaks. I only did two but next time I come back I will finish the trail. It is challenging but worth every step you take.

Can get a little muddy but definitely worth the hike. Easy to do and a definite must if you are visiting Hawaii.

Long!! But worth it. I saw some people with their dog up at the very peak, but I don’t know if most dogs could do this one. The view from the top is very different from most KST ridge trails because you can see all down the spine of the mountain and all the ridges branching off of it. really something else.

Super fun trail! Be careful about doing it when it’s been rainy because you do need to cross the stream bed several times and go up alongside three waterfalls with ropes. It’s muddy and there is a part where the trail is missing so you need to swing across with ropes. The trail follows the stream bed in along the last few houses in Palolo Valley (trail head is on private property but there is a hand painted sign marking it and warning caution and street side parking) and pipes bringing water from the crater. It can be windy along the rim of the crater but it’s a really neat and very different view! I’ve seen families try to bring kids along for this one but I wouldn’t... it’s pretty long and the last group I saw made it to the base of the third waterfall and was trying to figure the shortest way out. There are a few different paths that crisscross and can cut a little time off.

I went up on Saturday. it's been pretty clear up top the last few times I went. I have done this hike many times. If you want to avoid getting fined/arrested I will be going up this weekend this legal backway. I have some clean up to do up there. In my opinion going up the stairs all the way gets boring, the backway is more of an adventure and there are better views. It can get pretty muddy and windy. Crampons(spikes) recommended, I do have some spare spikes.
If interested send me a message on instagram @angelo_q or email me at chicolo@hotmail.com for details. Make sure to bring plenty of water and food!

Super fun, super beautiful hike. I had wanted to do this for years, ever since I was a little kid riding over the Pali. It did not disappoint and I’ve gone back several times. Avoid if too wet because it can get muddy and people have been seriously injured. But otherwise it’s a fun few hours. The views from the peaks are fantastic and (most) of the tricker parts have ropes to help.

Gorgeous sunrise views!! Very crowded in the mornings so make sure you come EARLY to get parking if you want to see the sunrise. First lookout is maybe 15 min in and the dawn view is already good from there if you want to stop at that point and just chill.

A great hike to take people on because it’s not too challenging as to be overwhelming but it’s also not boring. You really get to see the layers of the mountain from down by the stream up to the strawberry guava and ironwood and then native koa and ohia. You’re rewarded with a good view of the windward side and it’s possible to walk along the ridge and explore some.

This was such a fun hike, but a little longer than we were expecting! All four of us were baby-wearing our littles. We loved the falls at the end and jumped in the falls at the end. Crawl up the waterfall and see the waterfall at the top!

Short trail with an easy to follow path and lots of shade. Not a whole lot to see, although many of the trees were labeled. There’s a nice view of Kaneohe Bay at the lookout. It’s really more of a nature walk than a hike and the signs warning about ticketing if you park at all on the paved road made me nervous.

This was a last minute find and is now one of my favorite hikes. Can be a little tricky if you’re not sure footed. It gets a little slick in some spots. Enjoy!

very difficult but a good workout

Aloha, planning to hike this trail after Eminem concert next month. Shooting for February 16 or 17. Looking for experience hiking buddies to do it with us. Beer and dinner on me after! DM me on my IG @ mytravellovebug

I ended up here on accident while doing the Manoa Cliffs. This trail is nice and well maintained. Easy for most skill levels. We ended up using Tantulas to Round Rock and caught some nice scenes.

From Manoa Falls, I went up Aihualama. At the end of Aihualama where it meets Pauoa Flats, I took the right and headed towards a lookout point with a bench. Once past Manoa Falls, I hardly came across anyone.

Hi ! I would like to do this hike tomorrow, I’m in Hawaii with my friends but they don’t really want to go because of the difficulty of this hike. So if you want to do it with a French hiker contact me on Instagram : theo_mrc

Nice hike. Muddy. Great swimming under the waterfall.

Nice waterfall, but many people.

yo to be honest is the easiest hike I've done in hawaii even if you're a inexperienced hiker it migth be a bit slippery but still good hike, very short and great views

Hard, but worth every bit of sweat!

Terrific hike!

hike with the right conditions make the walk enjoyable, and definitely worth it. The trail does get confusing at the end if you haven't been to the falls before or there are very few hikers around. No swimming space at the waterfall, but often kids climb up and sit on the low ledges on the falls, foliage is also very beautiful, great for picture taking and nature enthusiasts. There are prime picture taking places before the falls if you're just going for the views, large trees and shrubbery/trail markings are nice props for photos. Does get muddy, and depending on how rainy it's been there are bugs/mosquitos. Children, dogs, and active adults will have a great time here, with the right weather conditions.

I typically hike up 1-3 times a week for almost 3 years now. Went up 5 times in the last 11 days. Had an awesome time going up today! I will be going again this Thursday, Friday, and this upcoming weekend. I have probably done this particular hike more than anyone else on island. (over 100+ times) It is often windy and/or rainy but we never have issues as we always have the right gear (including microspikes and gloves) which are supplied by me when we go. Nice afternoon hike. I wouldn't rate it hard, rather moderate. The view from the top was great!

We parked on residential Nawiliwili St off of Highway 72 and took the shortcut up to the trail. You’ll find the shortcut after the last house on the right side, where there’s also a large grate, a drainage ditch, and a street sign that says Begin Centerline Rumble Strip.

After reaching the paved trail, turn right and head uphill awhile. You’ll eventually pass two different wide dirt areas (basically old lava flows) to the left that lead down the hill (before you reach the end of the paved road). Don’t forget this is a loop trail, so it doesn’t matter which path you go down first - just head down and hug the ocean all the way around Koko Head and you’ll loop back up to the paved trail. The dirt paths are a little slippery and steep so watch your footing!

Absolutely gorgeous views the entire way!

I would say this is tougher than the rating but only due to the fact I carried about 30+ extra pounds on my back (baby+carrier). The “waterfall” wasn’t anything really worth the trip today but the view overall is amazing. The hike was up and down challenging and was a good workout overall. I’m sure there’s more of a waterfall when there’s more rain but not on a day like today.
