Crowded. However, it's cool once. It's fast and your in Hawaii.....

So i crashed my racing drone at the hole in the mountain and had to hike up to get it...scotts slippers, loose surf shorts and a tank top lol...i am considered a little overweight and boy this trail took a toll on me. Super nice views on the way there and the trail is fairly easy to follow. All in all i was able to retrieve my drone and make it back down before sundown

Headed up on a rainy day expecting mud and trail to be a little slippery.

Love the view at the top but it’s always over crowded, even very early in the morning. It’s a quick hike with a big reward.

Aloha! Hiked again today and will be hiking this Sunday due to the not so great of weather forecasted Saturday. I have hiked most of the hikes on this island many many times! It is often windy and/or rainy but we never have issues as we always have the right gear supplied by me when we go. If you're looking to hike and want to link up or get some ideas of what this trail looks like feel free to reach out to me on my Instagram @mike.karas or mikekarasphotography@gmail.com. Bring plenty of water for this hike and other hikes out here in Hawaii.

Easy hike. Went around 8:30am on a Friday. Lots of people already. Spectacular views! Took us about an hour with stops for pictures. There is barely any shade so bring sunglasses, hats and water bottles!

Really fun hike, but its definitely a good idea to bring micro-spikes. Many of the steep vertical ascents were difficult to get traction on.

Hey everyone! Planning to do this hike tomorow hopefully it's goung ro be nice out! If anyone wants to join dm jessicalittlexo on instagram

Crowded but pretty view
Child friendly
In the sun so bring water

NEW ROUTE! We are locals. DONT GO the normal way through where all the signs are, through the short bamboo forest and then into the valley clearing. The state has put up a nice new fence around the whole reservoir and they are actively working on it. Instead. Park in the parking area, go to the Right, where there is a locked fence double door. There is a whole in the left side of the fence. Go through there. Go Left down road, then Left again. Bamboo Forrest and mud.Once in clearing follow the brown signs with yellow arrows. Use your phones Google maps to see the different trail options. Remember, once you hear the Lulumahu stream just follow it up and cross everyonce in a while as needed. VERY MUDDY. Wear correct shoes! Bring clean clothes to change into after.

Anybody who's going on August 31st/Friday? :) msg me please at rociram_11@yahoo.com

I went the other day, it got pretty muddy and wet towards the top. If you have crampons that will help. I'm going up the "back way" this Sunday the 19th. if you'd like to join send me a message on instagram @angelo_q. Make sure to bring food and water and maybe some layers because it can get pretty windy and wet up top

Great hike, but not to be taken lightly. Come prepare by having spikes, boots, water, snacks and lots of time.

Fairly moderate with no real gradients. Very muddy at the moment but slippery rather than deep. Very peaceful and great when it’s hot out as it’s fairly covered. Pigs are damaging some of the trail and I saw a fairly large one at the 4 mike mark. Worth doing for a quick outing.

HFD to resume rescue efforts for pair of lost hikers on Windward Oahu trail

In town until the 23rd and would like to do the stairs. If anyone is going up between now and then please let me know. Best way to reach me is 503-313-4486

Someone going to the stairs today? Right now??

Did feel a bit adventures since we lost the easiest trail a couple of times and had to backtrack . My athletic son even continued up a steep mountain side and got to a point above the falls , instead of to the end of the falls. Quite a few people around though so you could find your way by following voices. Muddy, slippery, gorgeous scent of ginger, pretty bamboo. Stunning waterfall! Only wish it was better marked.

This was absolutely amazing. The most gnarly hike I’ve ever been on. I was terrified on the last hour to the top as it was super windy and you are walking on the ridge most of the time. Did this two days ago and I’m still sore. Super worth it but not sure I would ever do it again. This is a HARD hike and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Use spikes if you can - seriously muddy and the spikes saved my life. The way down seemed much easier after what we experienced on the way up but still sketchy. If you do it alone, guaranteed you will find some people to chat with and help you out. I suggest starting before 8am.

Crowded

Nice pool to swim in

Great trail, though it’s longer than listed. My app said it was 5.6 miles for the loop. Starting at the lower parking lot helped.

Hiked this solo on 7/8/18. Forgot to review. Did the ridge starting in Moanalua, down the stairs, back up the stairs, then back across the ridge where I started. That was pretty brutal! 14 miles, 9 hours or so tracking on the Apple Watch. It was rainy for part of it and windy on the sketchy parts. Not for the timid.

Probably the best hike in Oahu in terms of difficulty, beautiful scenery, semi-challenging rock climbing sections, and then the viewpoint from the first peak. We made it to the second peak, but decided not to go all the way to the third peak due to the sketchiness of the ropes on the backside of the second peak. Nonetheless, it was simply beautiful from the top! Highly recommended! Hope the weather is in your favor!

Completed this hike on 2018-08-07 via the "legal" way (start from Moanalua). My review does NOT apply to the Haiku Stairs. There are a lot of invitation to hike/ solicitation for guides on this review page. I'd like to provide some objective info regarding the risks and difficulty for people considering this hike.

Conditions on that day: No rain. Good visibility. Trail mostly dry, which lowered the risk factor significantly for us considering the wind (see below), but we encountered some spots that are very muddy. *Most* of the time we found a way to walk around the mud. Very strong, and more importantly gusty, wind on the ridge (~40+mph gusts). I'm reasonably fit/agile and I got knocked off balance and stumbled a couple times. Consider this with the fact that, in some parts of this trail you're hiking on a narrow ridge with steep cliffs on BOTH sides. Sometimes your margin of error is 1 or 2 steps. Yes you read that right.

Technical difficulties: Can be very muddy/slippery. Some steep climbs that require using your hands. Narrow, exposed trails. Spikes and hiking poles will make the hike easier, and more importantly, SAFER. You will encounter some loose dirt/rocks. People in my group were young, active people of average to above-average fitness. No expert hikers. Undoutedly a strenous hike, but we all completed the trail. ~3 hours up, ~3 hours down.

The risk of this hike depends heavily on rain and the wind. Both can change quickly. If the trail is not slippery AND there's no wind, this trail is manageable for reasonably agile, sure-footed hikers. However, slippery/windy conditions can make this trail very dangerous. If you want to do this hike, fully recognize the risk you're taking and use common sense - don't go alone; don't go in the dark; don't do it when you're not well rested, etc. Even then, go with the expectation that you might have to turn back if you don't feel safe. Falling off a mountain is a shitty way to die and your friends will have to have a very awkward conversation with your family.

Oh yea the views are phenonmenal, but you already know that. you get to take in full views of both the windward and leeward sides of the mountain.

8/12/2018-Started at 0730 with tons of other people (parking lot in Diamond Head was full) so it was slow going to the top. The weather was sunny but not super hot yet and the view at the top wasn’t super crowded but the ocean was really pretty at least.

Humid but not hot due to tree and then fog cover. Occasional fantastic views. Muddy, trail runners are okay. Overall great!:)
