Well maintained trail and absolutely stunning hike. DO NOT MISS THIS ONE! Breathtaking.
This hike will change your life. It's an incredible experience and acomplishment reaching the top.
Amazing walk. I did it in perfect conditions in early April. Joined by a kea for parts of the hike. Couldn't make it to Kitchener but keen to return and try again
A hard track with amazing vistas of Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea if you can reach the peak. The climb is steep and the track changes from sheep-pooped farmland into tricky gravel roads, which proved to be too hard on my bad knees and unfit condition. Do the full track if you are fit and/or adventurous, otherwise I suggest climb only the first part of the track where you can see Lake Hawea from a higher vantage point. The view does get better as you climb up, but climbing down will be really hard on your knees. Everyone else whom I met at the track seemed to be in good spirit and enjoyed the track more than I did. Do it as early as you can to avoid the heat of midday sun.
Amazing
Such an amazing but challenging hike! Highly recommend a good pair of hiking boots and poles. Going back down the mountain is harder than going up! Amazing views the entire time (we had a pretty good day). Would love to do loop track next time.
What an awesome hike! Beautiful views at the top
One of the best hikes ever ! What beautiful scenery, it was raining which made it even more magical
Absolutely beautiful. We have made some friends along the way, that was a quite funny talking to them (sheep) . The path is not the worst I have ever done, which is a good point, but the feeling I had when I got to the top was one of the best. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, they were taken by an IPhone. Highly recommended.
Awesome wide track. Bit of a slog but well worth it for the stunning views!
Weather was bad, but would be great views on a clear day
Really hard hike
Did this 31/3/21, started at 6:30am and caught sunrise on way up. Took my sister and I, about 2.5 hours to the top, we are fairly fit, but the relentless uphills and the length meant we took water stops sporadically. Our friend is a savage and made it up in 1.5 hours and then ran it in 45 minutes down. It took me an hour 45, to get back down, but this was a lagged pace as I found the steep downhill painful on my boobs, otherwise it would have been easier on the knees and legs to jog down (with a sports bra) as it is so steep. Really recommend going early morning as the darkness hides how far and steep you have to go and you're not being scorched by the sun as there is no shelter. A rewarding hike, the views as the sun rises are beautiful and the track was empty for us. I brought a Litre of water and food for the top which I definitely recommend. And maybe some TP for the toilet midway for your morning poop
What an Amazing, beautiful and Awesome hike. Probably one of the best around the Wanaka area. Worth doing and reasonably easy.
Amazing trail on a bright sunny day in autumn. I was nervous as it was called an expert trail, although I’m quite fit I wasn’t sure if it was for me! I really enjoyed it, such amazing views the whole way up. I would be weary doing this in wet or icy weather as there is a lot of loose rocks & crossing streams. Also legs were a little shakey coming back down! Do it :)
Spectacular! The road is a well-maintained gravel road. If you aren’t used to driving them, it can be shocking. But no issues. Watch out for the Ford. You could do some damage if you go over it too fast
Nice hike up and back, Great scenery.
2.5 hours to the top (daypack/light overnight) with great views of Lake Kaniere and the Tasman sea at sunset. Went up on a cloudy day which cleared just for sunset toward the west but unfortunately didn't open up to the east for views toward the southern alps. This would be a pretty muddy/slippy track after some rain but it wasn't bad for the west coast when I went up on 25/3/21. I sweat more than I ever have on a trail on this track, but worth it!
Gorgeous! Very easy.. a must do
easy walking track with swing bridges that are rock solid. loads to see. be sure to get to the end where you find a real treat.
Amazing track, the best part is between Luxmore hut and Iris Burn. Truly a Great walk
