Amazing views all along the way! There was snow on the top of the mountains even in the summer with very hot and sunny weather. One of the best hikes I have ever done!

THE GOOD:
Wow! The views along the trail are incredible from start to finish. You wind through azure alpine streams and glacier lakes while walking through Hooker Valley. The towering snow capped mountains are nothing short of magnificent. Walk a little past the trail end to get an up close view of the floating icecaps. Would disagree with the moderate rating - tail is about as easy as they come. Hardly any elevation change, wide, and well marked. Great for all ages and experience levels.

THE BAD:
This place is crawling with oblivious tour bus tourists whose only concern is taking an Instagram selfie and not enjoying the views around them.

Amazing hike with picturesque views of the turquoise blue lake. Would recommend going clockwise to get the best view. Definitely do the entire loop and don’t just turn around at the cafe.

i did it with a bad weather but the challenge was very nice

Rocky riverbed path to the glacier. Amazing waterfalls along the way, some you can walk up to. Glacier is magnificent. Would recommend a helicopter hike if you have time and money - only way to actually hike in the glacier

An absolute can’t miss. One of the largest and most magnificent waterfalls in New Zealand. Lots of steps to reach the lookout deck but well worth it.

great hike for day of arrival or with kids - great views, easy to get to.

Super worth the climb! Hiked in Dec 2018 and there was still snow toward the top. We used an ice axe and hiking poles but crampons would have been a nice luxury - you can rent them in Mt Cook Village. Do-able as a day hike but definitely stay in the hut if you can - sunrise and sunset are so beautiful

Nice walk. Beautiful views.

had a spare 3 hours weather great awesome walk

Tough trek, but worth the struggle. The landscape is outstanding. Be mindful of the weather, mountain conditions change all the time. Wouldn't reccomend attempting if you're inexperienced.

Unreal! perfect short hike that doesn't consume your whole day! The scenery is beautiful.

Great short walk. Not difficult but a fair number of steps. Took us less than an hour. Really beautiful!

Beautiful track! There are multiple routes at Mt Judah, we took the one to Heather Jock hit which is at 1300m altitude and takes c. 6-7 hours from the car park and back. You could stay at the hut, it has 3 bunk beds (first come first serve).

Awesome panoramic view of Lake Tekapo and the surrounding area. Well maintained and diverse plant life along the way. Steep and it was super windy for us at the top!

We went left from the car park which gave views of Wanaka and the lake while going up. Then the way down had views of the other side which was less exciting and also had a .5 mile walk around the base to get back to our car. Fun quick hike with good views. Lots of runners and dogs.

Nice stair workout going uphill, beautiful views from the waterfall.

A rainy day and I had the trail all to myself. Great views and well marked. Steady incline but not difficult.

Short and steep but worth it

It’s a nice little stroll I guess, and worth an hour or two if you’re stopping in Franz Josef, however the glacier is underwhelming to say the least. I know it has shrunk a good deal in the last few decades which is a shame, but it basically just looks like a dirty snowdrift and it’s about a kilometre from the lookout point. This track is hella easy so I have no doubt it is crowded in peak season.

Stunning Sean. Great if you like boulder jumping, we where with to boys 10 and 12 who loved it. You hear and see Avalanches this time of year.

To easy to busy

Way to busy. It snowed in the night before we did the walk and even then it feld like a trafficjam. Seenery is great.

good day hike for fam & kids

Lot of stairs to climb but worth to do it.

to see beautiful clear water after a short walk.
