I am new to trail running and found this loop enjoyable. I will do it again but go on the opposite direction. I think it would be better to start by heading down the Bobbin Head track (firetrail) which is mostly downhill in this direction. But perhaps I am just unfit.

Will do it again
Excellent walk

Amazing place to visit

Visiting this track for the first time, we weren't quite sure how to pace ourselves. Our advice: don't be discouraged by the initial uphill climb, it'll get your heart pumping then level out to a gentler incline and a more relaxed hike further on.

+ beautiful scenery, especially the view from the top
+ good, challenging hike
+ not many people on the track (midweek)
+ we enjoyed the ladder climbs

- many of the steps are quite deep, making it hard to get into a rhythmic pace on both the way up and down

× Pack a picnic to enjoy at the top, you'll want to stay a while and enjoy the view.

really enjoyed this trail, though it was alot of up hill.

nice trail

This is a really great loop track. We went along the first half by riverside, it has beautiful view and friendly animals. After had lunch at cafe. The way back is just a perfectly easy and simple direct way back. Notes if your car is parked at Sphinx memorial, make sure you came back before gate close which is 5:30pm

Great, little trail. Nothing too hard, there are a fair amount of stairs - just enough to work up a sweat. Great views and bush to look around in. Saw a few goannas too.
Entry to the Sphinx car park requires a $12 entry fee. Or you can park up on Bobbin Head rd and walk the 350m down to the trail start.

We got lost twice as there was no sign.
It’s a good waking trail

The hardest part is when you going back and run out of water

Fantastic, just has a few areas affected from the heavy storms.

Did this track with a mate not too long ago. It is best to do it in Autumn as we did it during a summer heatwave- not the best experience. But the campsites, views and nature made up for it. Took us 2 days and a half, starting from Explorer’s Tree, finishing at Jenolan Caves. Make sure to pack lots of water, as there is no fresh water until you make it to the campsites.

I did this over two days. From Katoomba train station to coxs river (18km) day one. Day 2 coxs river to Jenolan (30km). The uphills are hard but what else do you expect mountain hiking! For my first solo hike, it was pretty awesome! Did it mid week. Didn’t see another person. Good nature time. No snakes at all. Very satisfying hike.

Nice easy walk. Great views. The ladders are fun

This is a good workout for me. I like to take overseas guests on it, if they like nature and walking. It is quite pretty with a lot of variation in landscape. You can have coffee down at Bobbin Head Inn (over the bridge near the boats) Sometimes we meet there for a burger and get a lift back, missing the horse trail. This works if you have someone willing to drive down. If you go up the horse trail you can try following the pipeline to cut through the zig zag. At first going up is hardish but eventually it is a long flat walk to finish.

Started from Katoomba, first part (15km or so) was beautifully scenic throughout with an awesome suspension bridge just before the camp ground. First 10km next day were dreadfully hard with the constant incline, but once you conquer that bit you get to enjoy the rest of the hike. Jenolan Caves are definitely worthwhile exploring once the hike is over :)

on Six Foot Track

Done the 6 foot in a day 12 times - in all those times only ever saw 2 snakes - a black and a brown, on same day - best time 10 hrs 27 mins, worst 12 hrs 45 mins - always start Explorer’s tree, end bottom step at Caves House. Always led by one of the world’s best blokes, Barry K***. Started when 51 yrs age, last time at 61.

Wonderful walk
We started in Leura and finished off getting the train back from Katoomba

Lots of wildlife, koalas, echidnas, goannas, kangaroos Wallaby But no snakes seen
Campsites along the way well provided for with tank water, composting toilets and picnic shelters if you want.
Day 2 from Katoomba is the tough uphill day, first 10 km, second 10 km is a little flatter

One of the longer loop walks in Sydney with beautiful forest views and sandstone formations. Some steeper parts and 10.5 km long.

Well constructed and maintained track. Amazing views at the top of Pigeon House

great three day hike 17km in you hit the up hill and it was hard. but still great hike

day 1 tough. day 2 tougher. day 3 nice :)
watch out for snakes. kind of hard when they look like sticks... I suggest to set off at dawn on day 3 and get to jenolan by 10 so you can go on a cave tour, walk a track without ur pack or just sit at the cafe and try and drink them out of stock!

another tip is the bus arrives at 12pm "blue mountains coaches (or buses" if you catch the bus driver, he will let you to drop off your pack so you can explore more. bus leaves around 3.30. Bus driver is John and is a champ

trail running

Starting at the sphinx, the steep decline is a challenging ascent, making sure not to step on the wrong stone or branch. The steps take you down to a breathtaking view of the river, where the path leads you to the marine. The path is covered with small stones, so beware the ankles.

The second part of the track is the fire trail, which is a bit less spectacular, but is a great way to recover after the steep climb.

Had tons of fun while doing this run, will do it again!

Part of this is beautiful, part very boring. Don't do the loop, do an in and back along the river. The top part of a boring fire trail with no view.

i loved this walk ,beautiful scenery .Couldn't believe how clear the waters of Cowan creek are.
