Completed this loop in July 2020; absolutely gorgeous!!!! So worth the hike, and it was relatively moderate in terms of difficulty.
Did this during a hailstorm in 2019. Tons of people as expected. Beautiful views, but as with most things in Glacier, too many people to relax. Best of luck finding a parking spot.
We hiked from the Jenny Lake boathouse at sunrise in September. Encountered a bull moose along the lake that ran us off the trail before we headed up to Inspiration Point. Breathtaking views as the fog cleared from the canyon revealing the fall leaves bursting with color. Got to Lake Solitude as someone dove in for a quick swim (it was 25°F at the top) with snow still on the ground from the storm the day before. Overall amazing views and lots of wildlife (multiple pika and marmots). It was pretty peaceful on the way up since we started early but it was quite crowded coming down making the 2nd half slower than the 1st. Finished the full 20 mile trip just under 8 hours. Overall amazing hike.
Cross country skied from lodge and for about the first 2 miles it was really icy, little snow making it tough to ski. Could see the road in some spots. The actual trail at avalanche had snow but did not need snow shoes at all. Some icu spots and walking piles would be helpful. Beautiful views and no people. Total 6miles skiing each way & 2 each way on avalanche trail. Total of 16. January 2021
One of the best trails in the park. Although be aware some of the trail will close during bear season.
Did this trail back in June 2019. Incredible diversity within a few miles of hiking, not only topography but weather. The payout at the lake is well worth the hike! Late June and multiple wall falls cascading down the mountains!
early Sept 2020. the most challenging and rewarding hike of my life. not for novices as the final 2 miles or so are extremely steep and require passing through 2 boulder fields. but wow! the lake is so spectacular is makes every agonizing step worth it. got off trail on the way down and had to go through brush to get back to the main trail. be careful on the way back and retrace your footsteps.
Best hike of my life, to date. Be watchful for wildlife, pack enough water and snacks to fuel you through, and take your time. The views are incredible at every point along the canyon! We started at sunrise and finished mid-afternoon. (early October 2020)
Moderate hike, heavily trafficked for good reason. Stunning views of Avalanche lake, you have to get in!
One of my favorite hikes ever! went in july and had to cross some small snow fields and the trail was closed beyond the overlook due to bear activity. saw lots of mountain goats and marmots, views were absolutely incredible. get there as early as possible for parking!!
We started the trail back at the lodge for fear of not being able to find parking at the actual trailhead making this hike about 16 miles. Well worth it. Nice and shaded. *note* we hiked this this past July and had great weather! Some of the best parts of the trail weren’t even the lake itself. Like with every hike in glacier I couldn’t get over how clear the water is. Trail was busy, would recommend getting their as early as possible. The lake would make for a great mid morning snack!
Hiked it last year during the summer, amazing! Worth all the hard work! Perfect place to take a swim after our hike!
I loved this Trail. It was a pretty easy hike. The entire trail was filled with beautiful views and scenery. Avalanche creek had the bluest water I have ever seen and the lake was beautiful.
Best hike I did all year, variety, views, a decent challenge.
Completed in August* Some of the best views the entire hike! Definitely challenging but the beauty the entire way out and back are well worth it, the last mile is intense but doable! All other hikes will pale in the comparison to this. Bring lots of water, filters and snacks! Highly recommend and will complete whenever in the area!
Glacier
Easy walk, busiest trail of our visit. 8/2019
Teton Park Rd. is closed just after the Taggart Lake Trailhead. The approach to the Jenny Lake trail head is 4.5mi. Once we got to the trail head, we bush whacked the Jenny Lake Trail with snow shoes until we hit Jenny Lake Lp. and we're exhausted.
This trail was tough. Very pretty scenery and had lots of elements. Snow, mud, rocks, sand and more. Even saw a moose. It was a long hike to the top, but worth the view. Be prepared and wear proper hiking attire and water if you get dehydrated easily.
