Beautiful Mother’s day hike

Pretty easy going down to the waterfall only about 1.8 miles but on the return it can be a little difficult due to the incline. Plan accordingly.

nice with 4 kids

I like that it's short, so if you just want to go for a few hours and not all day it's perfect.
I've been here a few times cause it's close. My dog loves it and she loves to climb so I like that it's an easy enough climb for her for me not to worry of her falling.
During the hotter seasons there's no water.. It dries up, during the cooler seasons after a good rain there usually is water.. It gets up to at least 2 feet of water.. More or less.
You can climb up the waterfall... Or down. I see Rock climbers there more so during the summer, which is pretty cool to watch. Usually pretty friendly also.
Downside is the tacky graffiti... If it were murals of something it'd be a different story maybe even liked by most... But it's just a bunch of stupid kids tagging their names and stupid kid-like drawings... It seems to be getting worse. Honestly I could do without the graffiti completely. Unfortunately it might not happen. Honestly there not much room for really good pictures because of it. Thankfully there are still some good spots but it's only a matter of time.
Teach your children not to deface nature and maybe, there will still be places of beauty left in the future.

All in all, I still love going here for my dog and I, easy rocky trail, steep but super short. Sometimes water, sometimes dry. Fun little outing.

Great hike, not too difficult. Only one uphill stretch otherwise very straightforward.

no shade. nice view of the ocean.

the trail was great not much water but still a great view and great pictures. but like everyone says the last part of the hike is all up hill to get back to your car so defiantly prepare for a work out

Nice day hike. Wasn’t much water at the waterfall but did find a garden snake and turtle there.

Very nice hike for the whole family. Saw the Redwood trees, a family of rabbits, woodpecker, blue jays, and a bunch of other nature.

It was an alright hike. Physically, it had its challenging moments, but nothing not unmanageable.

Because of its location and the high foot traffic, it felt less like an adventure and more like an orchestrated attraction...a la Disneyland.

Though I have to say, there were some very nice vistas

park in the dirt lot off Fullerton Rd...its free. I love how challenging this loop is but be cautious. Someone's car got broken into in the lot and on the trail around a bend was a huge rattlesnake! I saw 3 deer on my last hike here. Use the alltrails app. I got lost the first 2 times.

The waterfall itself is currently a trickle ending in a small pool. It’s still pretty. The hike to get to it was lovely, very green, lots of shady trees. Like folks have already mentioned that last half mile back up to the parking lot is rough and exposed. Almost no shade. Be prepared to sweat and get a good thigh workout. Also watch out for the gnats that follow you all the way through the hike. They wouldn’t let up!

Great moderate hike, some of the inclines are a bit challenging but totally worth the views at the top. We took this counter clockwise and would definitely recommend doing the same so that you are rewarded with the breathtaking views at the end! Loved this hike and will be back for more in Crystal Cove!

Nice trail, has only one strenuous-ish ascend, the rest is pretty much easy/moderate. Saw a pack of coyotes who were scared off once we approached, lots of bunnies and birds. There were beautiful mountain views at the top and right before the descend (we went clock wise). Parking is $15 for the whole day but there’s a sunset rate from 5pm till sunset which is only $5. Saw a tow truck on the way back right before sunset, I guess they do enforce their parking policy. Definitely recommend and will come back.

Great hike...

Given the heat and lack of rain lately, the waterfalls were more of a faucet left on by accident. Still, would come again because of the hike to the falls. Shaded and beautiful.

As others have said, the first half mile or so from the parking lot, on the paved road, is a doozy. Be prepared to work to get back to your car.

Come early, bring a lot of water and yes, bring bug spray.

The first part is a bit difficult on the way back. Other than that it’s a beautiful trail.

nice easy loop. some sections were closed for fire recovery. I took my dog and had a good back pack in and out. even with closures it was easy to navigate around.

a great beginner hike!

Went on a solo hike on a Sunday. it was difficult to find the trail, the directions on how to get there, from this app, are not accurate at all. I had to stop and Google it. Use this address: 2100 powder canyon trail. it will take to the trail head and the parking lot which is free and it was not busy or full at all. It is a dirt and gravel road and it is very uneven so if your car is low, you will hit some road underneath your car. The trail itself was fun. there are some spots that have plenty of shade but most of it was very open. there are alot of forks and different ways to go that take you to other trails. I stuck to the map and followed the app and GPS. it started to get kinda confusing towards the end but watch the GPS from the app and you'll be fine. plenty of inclines and it will challenge you!

Is there a lake in the area?

Beautiful trail, easy once you’re off the paved portion, the paved area is very steep so it had a a level of difficulty to the trail in the way back. Lot’s of cottages along the path that make this the enchanted forest. Decent size swimming hole and waterfall at the end. An enjoyable hike. Many trails off this one, not always clear on the descriptions which trail they are referring to.

Awesome cute trail , can be difficult every once in a while but over all a really calm hike !

Took my 3 year old with no carrier on hot day, bad move. Outside of that, nice little hike to the waterfall. We splashed around for a bit and made our way back. Would for sure do again with a carrier.

Nice place to visit beautiful easy trail
The trail itself is pretty clear and easy to hike
Be prepared to pay for parking (ticket otherwise) you need some sort of pass -
Equestrians do not visit during the weekend there will be no parking for trailers -go during the week -
There are TONS of poison oak but trails are pretty clear (so stay on it ) bring bug spray - the only down side was it’s VERY rocky for horses towards the end closer to falls -fine for hikers just be careful if you have equine friends joining -will definitely be returning with my pup for a good hike the scenery and sound of the running stream is nice .

Not the most spectacular falls in the San Gabriels (especially in the summer), but well worth the drive. The creekside trail is mostly shaded and passes come quaint cabins from the early 1900s. However, the first half mile or so down to Roberts camp is on a paved, unshaded road with about a 12% grade, all uphill on the way back, so plan accordingly.

We went to this trail at one of the hottest days in this summer. It is not an easy hike in the hot weather plus an exposed trail. However, an occasional ocean breeze is pleasant. We finished the 5 Miles within 2 hours! A nice Sunday work out!

Pretty easy hike, until the hike out. This weekend was super hot so it was rough. Bring plenty of water and take rests.
My doggy was tuckered

Great hike! Don’t forget your insect repellent!

Many of the trails closed for wildfire recovery. Awesome trail. My family enjoyed it a lot. We will go many more times when all trails opened

Lovely trail not hard at all
