Awesome hike, made the trek with my 9 year son, 7 year old daughter, teen niece, and 64 year old mother and it was an all around crowd pleaser. We all found it challenging, yet very rewarding as the views were spectacular. Looking forward to do the hike thru to the North Moat Mountain.

Hiked this as an out/back from the parking lot to North Moat. The bottom 2+ is a walk in the park; the middle steps up the elevation gain, and the top 1/3 can be challenging, but the whole trip down will be challenging, if it’s wet, which it was. No other hikers were seen during the whole trip, due to less than perfect hiking weather.

Incredible views at the top.
It should be mentioned at the beginning of each review.
Not an easy hike.... uphill from the start. Not to steep, doable, and will get your heart pumping.
Couple if their 50s. Took us 4:45 with a 15 minutes break in top.

Liked this very much. Good for the dogs and enjoyable for everyone else

Very FUN!!

I very much enjoyed this trail- one of the best of the area. The varied path grades and quality keep the hike interesting and moderately challenging. The payoff was excellent- a breezy summit with excellent views. I would happily do this hike again and again.

Nice moderate uphill trail. Beautiful views at the top. Great place for a picnic!

Perfect hike for families with younger children. One of the highest visual-payoff-to-effort ratios you can find.

This hike was awesome! It was very very difficult given the 60% humidity but, I could see a normal day being rated moderate. Took us about 4 hours with 4 pretty long breaks going up. It starts off very easy like everyone said and then gets progressively steeper. I never felt like I was really scrambling up rocks though and I often feel that way in the whites. The view up top is totally worth it so keep pushing past all the nice overlooks and areas that feel like false peaks. You get a full 360!! Would absolutely do again.

Amazing trail for family of 6. This was our first time in the White Mountains and a perfect hike for beginners. The trail is well marked with a beautiful forest canopy to start followed by a rocky ascent deserving of some fancy foot work. The kids couldn’t wait to get to the top. What a view! Well worth it. Spent 30 minutes snacking and taking in the amazing vistas. Coming down saw many hikers going up. We lucked out not having hikers on top. Will definitely visit next time.

A nice hike with some very scenic views at the top, but it is not ‘easy’ (at least not for a 65+ year-old who is reasonably fit). Elevation increases the entire way; lots of roots and small rocks to watch out for; and large rocks to climb on the last 1/4 mile. For me it was a medium-level hike (especially since it was hot and humid today), and a very enjoyable one.

Great hike! It was rated as moderate (*I see now, 24 hours later that it’s rated as hard) and it definitely was challenging. The views from the top are amazing! The ascent was tough- took us about 2 hours and 45 minutes. It had rained a few times, so the descent was slippery, even with poles. All in all it was 6 miles round trip.

Wonderful hike! Views at the top are fabulous and worth the climb. We did it counter clockwise like others suggested and were glad we did! Much easier on the knees to do the steeper part going up. We brought our kids- age 6,8, and 11 and they did fine. Easy to moderate climb.

Hiked with my family. Kids 12 & 8 and Dad 63. It was a tough hike. The first mile was a pretty easy smooth path. The rest of the way was pretty steep and rocky. It took us 3h 45m to reach the summit, 1h 50 min to come down. “SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE”
Views were amazing!!! Well worth it
Great day enjoying each others company!

Went with 15 people, 6 adults (in relatively decent shape) 9 kids. Ages 3-9. Hike was perfect for our group, about 2hr hike, Beautiful views. Definitely recommended.

Beautiful view! Parts of the trail were very steep may be difficult for some people, but other than that it was great. The view was beautiful but very busy with people driving up to the parking lot right near the ledge.

Great hike with an amazing view.

This was a perfect easy hike for my kids (9 & 5) and parents (in their 60s) to enjoy together. Pretty scenery, well marked, easy.

If your not a regular hiker, this is a moderate hike, we hiked clockwise, pretty steep and uphill with little respite. Views at top were well worth the effort. Would highly recommend this if you have couple of hours to spare

Lovely, easy walk. Had 3 kids under 7 and 1 infant in a carrier and the trail was easy to navigate, well groomed. The swimming hole was way better than anticipated. It’s a full beach with lifeguards and nice shallow swimming in the roped off area. Expected to take a quick dip but instead spent the afternoon. Wish we’d brought a grill to stay through our next meal like many other families. Only thing we wish we’d known is that their is a cost: $4 for adults and $2 for kids over 6. Well worth the visit!

I normally take Bryce's up to Cathedral and then over to Whitehorse and down this trail since it's less steep than coming down Bryce's. Then take a dip in the lake! yesterday's hike was perfect as there was a light breeze to keep the bugs away and it was mild temps.

Well marked trails, lots of people. Nice views. Nice climb up and down took about hour and half total. Little slippery at the top but not bad. Dog enjoyed the rocks.

Great short hike with decent elevation. Went this morning. Great views at top.

We headed out on the trail and continued clockwise around the loop. The hike does have a few moderate inclines on the way up. We were with four kids ages 5-8. They all handled the hike well even though they were pretty tired. The top is large bare rock which is fun to explore. The decent is much trickier and steeper so you want to keep an eye on the kids even though they may want to race down. Mileage was just under 5 Miles. I think the mileage listed was 3 something so definitely keep in mind it may be longer than what’s listed on this site. Also there were lots of little roads that the kids kept finding which they enjoyed.

Great hike with the kids. It was cloudy when we got to the top but the kids had a great time scrambling up the rock near the top on the way up. The rock was a little slippery on the way down but we all survived. Would highly recommend. Probably best for ages 4 or 5 and up or small kids in a backpack.

Great hike, took us about 2 hours to complete. Beautiful views at the top. Lots of rock “stairs”, our two dogs loved it. We camped at the covered bridge campground which is a 30 second walk away from this trail!

Awesome views from the top. It could be challenging for beginners or those out of shape as there are plenty of steep parts towards the top but no problems for the average hiker.

Great trail for beginners or those not used to hiking but it is more than a simple walk. The views at the top were stunning!

This is a great trail! The views and hike are well worth your time. We went with 8 adults and 7 children. All enjoyed it. The children especially. While it is short and rated as easy it is a real hike. The trail is not a paved or groomed trail. There are roots, rocks, boulders, dirt, bugs, trees, gravel. Some of the parents in the group were expecting something like a groomed nature walk I think. You are virtually summiting one of the mountains. One might want to bring a small pack with water, snack, camera, light jacket or sweatshirt. Where you park is almost to the top. Just driving to the trail head was fun.

Nice, easy trail with scenic views. $5 per car
