I've only hiked this trail once and it is a really cool trail, especially 12 minutes away from my house in the city, but the main drawback for me is all the bikes. It's a very popular MTB trail and I had to pause pretty much every other minute to let a bike go by. A few bikes hurtled toward me and expected me to lunge out of the way. Overall it was hard to settle into the hike itself.

Really great hike! Starts out on a gentle uphill through the forest and then opens up. 360 degree view of surrounding mountains. It can be quite windy but it wasn’t bad when we were there! Not hard and has flat spots along the way! We were very pleased with this hike!

Attempted this hike today and saw 2 Rattlesnakes on the trail within the first .5 miles. I was alone and decided not to risk it but will re-attempt in cooler temps with a buddy. Trail looks very nice but minimal shade.

It’s a very nice trail !!

Loved the hike there. Got to the trailhead at 5:45 PM for a sunset hike and finished the hike at 8:20.. about 2.5 hours of hiking and gaping at how beautiful Golden/Colorado is at the golden hour and at sundown.. the trailhead is wayyyy less trafficked at the time we went. Had my dog on a leash all the time because of the rattlesnakes but seemed to be ok!

Great hike, nice views. Lots of sun, only a few areas that were shaded, so don’t forget a hat and some sunscreen.

Awesome hike! You start at high elevation and will certainly feel it on the way up but it’s a nice steady incline. The views are magnificent along the way and especially above the tree line! Get up there early cause we got caught in a storm with lightening and hail- no joke!

Beautiful hike!! Not too hard and goes through several types of terrain.

This is a moderate trail with some beautiful spots. If you see signs for Windy Peak, keep in mind that’s a side trip that is off of the Mountain Lion trail. The trail markers end once you decide to take the Windy Peak detour, so it’s easy to get turned around.

We didn’t encounter any wildlife on the trail, although we started later in the morning around 9. It’s a great workout, but there’s no “wow” view that makes it feel like it was worth the trek.

Great hike, go during a week day in the afternoon if you can there is way less traffic. No mountain biking on the trail so that’s a plus.

Good hike. Beautiful views. A little much for my 9 and 11 year old.

Amazing trail. Somewhat difficult in spots but the views are worth it!

I really enjoyed this hike despite how heavily trafficked it was. Has about everything I would want in a hike.

Beautiful hike with my dog, but had to go early in the AM to beat the summer heat (by noon it was 95 degrees). A few spots got narrow and with mtn bikers out and about there were a couple times we were forced off the path to make room for them. Nice mixture of rocky scrambles and smooth trail.

Great trail and perfect weather! Easy until about half way through then it got a bit steeper but definitely not difficult. We went counter clockwise. Lots of water passing for pups to relax and drink from.

Amazing views didn’t see one person the entire time up and down connects to CDT and other great trails. Also, has access to summit Vasquez Peak.

Lake is gorgeous and refreshing! Easy hike and worth circling the lake.

*keep in mind this is a state park so you will need a pass! $7 for a day pass at the visitor center 3 miles down the road!*
Started off counter clockwise as I wanted more shade on the incline. It was a nice hike with plenty of shade. Took about 3 hours to complete the loop which includes a stop for snacks. No mountain lion siting but did run into a couple snakes! Enjoy!

Beautiful lake but mediocre hike in

Wonderful half day hike, with moderate elevation gain. Trail is rocky and loose up to the lake. Would recommend going around the lake for great view!

Popular trail, great for an evening hike/run. Parking is limited. Seems kind of obvious to point this out, but make sure you aren't parking off the side of the road where it says "No Parking" - you will get a ticket. I saw about 6-7 vehicles get tickets.

Nice hike, very gradual uphill until two steep sections near lake. LOTS of people (July Saturday). Dry around lake. Seems like a bit over 6 miles to me.

A good moderate hike. We got to the trailhead around 6:30 am and there was one spot. However, plenty of parking on the street. Wish we had spent more time at the lake, but a storm rolled in and we got worried and left. Next time we will stay for lunch. Not too crowded for early in the morning, but plenty of campers at the lake.

Hiked this solo mid week and only saw 3 other hikers. Pretty wild flowers and it was well marked. A few spots got my heart rate up and I felt satisfied at the end!

Great hike that I took a few visitors on. Good elevation change up to Vasquez peak after that it is smooth sailing with great views. A few small lakes that you can see from afar as well.

Amazing views. Start in the trees go up above tree line. Lots of wildflowers and bumblebees! A little bit of snow on the ground even in August!

Well kept trail with beautiful views around lake, not too strenuous . Enjoyed it as much as my son.

Great trail. Well marked. Quiet. Def spots to get the heart rate up but then lots of opportunity for chill. Some area are direct sunlight.

Waited for the perfect cool fall day (last year) to do this hike after reading the reviews on its exposure and I’m sure glad I did. Short and sweet worth doing if you plan it right.
