Beautiful views of the city and surrounding area. Did solo- no issue of losing the trail or not knowing where to go. Did the out and back and would like to do the loop next time around. Started from King Canyon trailhead which states it’s 3.5 from the top. Was a little tired from seven falls a few days prior so it was a slog to the top. Very nice pace on the way down even checked out the picnic area! Trying the loop for sure next time and make sure to bring more snacks as a sandwich and granola for breakfast wasn’t enough. It was a super windy day so was glad to have a long sleeve and a snug hat!

Excellent trail - not difficult at all beyond the distance. Great scenery at the Heart of Rocks Loop. Pleasant along the way with some open, hilly terrain and other forested terrain. Great place to get away from things and take some pics without pushing oneself too hard with a tough climb.

We did this hike since it was close. Took our 4yr 2mth old son and he was able to do the entire hike. He climbed up without any help but needed to hold a hand on the steeper parts coming down. We went at his pace and it took us 3 hours to summit and 2.5 hours to descend.

I hiked this trail for the third time and it never gets easy. This time I used poles and it helped a lot.

11 to the top.. no big horns this time but so many wild flowers this time.. amazing views and brutal hike as usual!! ❤️❤️

Great hike, some thorned vines loved my clothing and legs. Solo hike, some parts of trail were easy to lose for me.

Love this trail because it alternates between flat and easy to rocky and difficult. Rather than the same terrain, you get a variety.

Really awesome, hard, rewarding day hike. This trail map doesn't take you all the way to the window... that's a 12.8 mile total hike and 4000 ft elevation gain. Once you get get to the end of Ventana Canyon Trail, turn onto Esperero and keep going until you're past the plateau and you get some really big rocks to your right - the window will be right by the trail but is easy to walk by. We took about 8 hours and probably should have taken more than a couple of bottles of water apiece.

Was a tough hike. The views were amazing. So worth it.

I can’t believe 57 people gave this trail a 4-5 star rating! Half of the hike is butted up against Irvington road...so I guess the “beautiful views” are the houses and the cars??? The only reason I can see anyone recommending this trail
Is if you live down ajo or close by and you maybe want to do a little trail running. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF BETTER TRAILS IN TUCSON!!! If I want to hike somewhere just to see views of the city, I’ll walk up tummamoc or A mountain!!!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TRAIL.

Be prepared, it’s somewhat hard up and down, but well worth it; I saw Bighorn Sheep, Golden Eagles, and Rattlesnakes.
The views from the top are great, took my time, had lunch at the top and just enjoyed the experience.

Great views as you near the loop of Heart of Rocks.

went up the trail 5 miles. still 2 miles from making the window. trail is pretty tough. took me 5 hrs 10 min to do 10.07 miles. there wasnt a ton of water flowing at the maiden pools but there was a good amount a couple more miles up. definitely going back and making it to the window.

This is a short hike but it is a good workout hike because it has lots of elevation gain. I recommend starting this hike before 6 AM in the summer because it heats up quickly at this elevation.

Hard but awesome !!

Amazing views but never made it to the rock! The map ended my trail and I couldn’t find directions to make it. Very strenuous trail specially on the way down very hard on the knees. I want to do it again but not alone. I’ll make sure to get extra cushioning on my boots, a flashlight, extra battery pack and to begin the hike at 5am. Definitely a trail for long pants/leggings. My legs and arms looked like I had been attached by a mad cat. Couldn’t go up stairs when I got home and my knees hurt all night. Very peaceful and lonely hike good for soul cleansing but I must say I got a little panicked when saw myself so tired, in so much pain and still 5 miles away from my car in pure solitude. Gotta get back to climb the Window though ❤️ Overall challenging but rewarding prepare to be climbing for 7-8 hrs definitely more then 9 miles maybe more like 10-11

Love it!

Gorgeous views! However, the upper section of this trail was more difficult than I thought it would be from previous reviews- once you turn up toward the window, it is more scrambling than hiking. Definitely possible that recent rains have washed out sections of the trail; I would recommend high ankle boots and bounding poles for the more difficult sections. The view was amazing though.

This was the toughest hike I’ve ever done. Totally worth the views at the top!

Definitely difficult! But loved the view from the top! Totally worth it!

I underestimated this one. Got to the parking lot around 3:45 and thought I could get it in before dark. Ended up hiking the last leg in complete darkness. Very fun!! Got to see the sunset at the top. No bighorns but a couple of peregrine falcons put on a show for me in the canyon. This hike definitely was a challenge. Not for beginners but so much fun of your up for a challenge

Trip number 10 to the top and it’s as hard as the first time!!! Saw big horns again, 9 of them.. so calm and relaxing at the top!!

Great fall/winter/spring hike for any experience level. One of the best views in the Catalinas.

make sure you bring you water. no shade. will definitely come back in the winter/spring when the falls are more than a dribble.

A easy trail for all tucsonians

It was more than moderate.... I thought it was a tough hike.

This is my favorite trail around. It's steep enough to test you no matter how fit you are and has a great summit. There's also a chance of seeing some bighorn sheep too.

As many times as I have done this trail, it doesn’t get easier but by far my favorite trail!! Happy lucky Sunday, saw big horn at pretty close distance, 8 of them!! And a Gila monster at the top!! Well worth my Sunday!!

I don't mind the sights and sounds of the nearby city. Beautiful views that change a lot through the course of the hike. Lots of saguaro including young saguaro. Great views of downtown Tucson.

Started at Echo Canyon parking lot and entered to the right into the canyons. Beautiful views. If you're doing the whole loop back to the parking lot, it's not 8 miles like listed, it's between 10-12 miles. For us ended up being 11.8 miles because of the confusion at balancing rock and Heart of rock junction. We did not do the heart of rock loop so keep that in mind for your mileage. The second half of the trail past Balancing rock is not as breathtaking as the canyons but still beautiful. It's all mostly up hill from there!! 7 hrs total time for an unexperianced 54 yr old. well worth it.
