This is an incredibly special trail, though quite difficult in many areas especially for people like me afraid of heights! Particularly when the wind is whipping threatening to tear you off the rock face! Not for the faint of heart. Scenery is spectacular the entire trek. We went counterclockwise and at the bottom the sign reads: difficult, technical skills needed! One of the harder hikes, not moderate. Loved the excitement and beauty. Don’t miss this trail.

Must do if you are in the area! Nice loop trail with great views.

Really nice hike. There's enough elevation gain with the summits too make this a nice workout that can be done in a couple hours. I like to take quick breather at the top of each hill and run back down it.

best hike in Scottsdale Phoenix area. Not as rough as echo canyon but very challenging. great views.

Great workout! Slightly overcrowded and parking can get wild but the views great!

Awesome brother-sister hike!

Excellent trail - not difficult at all beyond the distance. Great scenery at the Heart of Rocks Loop. Pleasant along the way with some open, hilly terrain and other forested terrain. Great place to get away from things and take some pics without pushing oneself too hard with a tough climb.

Was a long loop trail but so wonderful. Go counterclockwise at the loop.

If you can only do one hike, do this one. We took a left at the cow pie/hangover sign post, going counter clockwise around the trail. Bikes have to take the cow pie trail (right at the sign post) to get to hangover trail. I was glad to be heading towards bikers rather than having them come up behind us. The views are amazing. This is a challenging hike...not hard, but definitely on the more difficult side of moderate. It took us about 3.5 hours to do the 8+ miles. We weren’t hustling, but kept a decent pace.

Great trail! The first couple of miles are somewhat generic, but once you make it down to the creek it’s really nice.
The trail gets confusing towards the end but keep going as the waterfall all the way at the end makes it worth the trek!

It's one of the tuffer trails of fossil creek. Waterfalls are beautiful but not easily accessible. Be prepared for this one because the road is very rocky and it can hurt the legs.

Things to must have.
1. Good trekking shoes
2. Water
3. Power bars

Nice hike to a watering hole...water is typically too cold for me, but other folks jumped in just fine. Keep your bikes home unless your only going halfway, saw a kid struggle as his father kept going. You don't need to be in great shape, but helps.

Awesome views, clean area, different options

A little crowded but a great hike with an excellent reward. Beautiful sunrise!!

Great hiking experience! Beautiful views! Started 8:30 am, finished 2:pm, including some water breaks and snack, went total 11 miles.

Favorite hike in Sedona. Awesome variation in ecology and amazing views on Hangover. A lot of the hike in ON the red rocks, which is very cool. Take plenty of water and good, grippy hiking shoes.

You need to be comfortable on smooth (generally not slippery or overly steep) rock faces and narrow trails near drop-offs, but it's not overly technical or arduous. Definitely recommend going counter-clockwise so you're going up the only rock faces that don't have switchbacks.

We arrived around 9 am on a Saturday in early November and were able to park in the lot, although it was definitely filling up.

This hike is amazing up to the spring. Past that the trail is extremely hard to follow and steep loose rocks threatened injuries. After about a half mile or so it is well marked with carins up to Rim Road. Even with this app and trail markers I lost the trail several times. Many great spots to camp by and below the spring.

Great hike!! Recommend going before sunrise, and hike as the sun rises. I started climbing around 630am. Extraordinary views. I made it to the peak. I’m not an experienced
hiker but I am very athletic so it was a pretty difficult hike but wasn’t bad at all until about the last leg of the hike-as others had stated complete stair climber machine! I sat at the peak for awhile moving from the few areas to sit and the longer I sat the more people joined. I started the decent about 9am and on my run down it was getting very crowded but very hot. Had no experienced with any wildlife but again amazing views especially while the sun is rising the mountains surrounding captured the sunlight perfectly! Backpacks not needed just water and a snack-however I did carry one with my GoPro and snacks.

if you do one hike in sedona, this is it. 3.5 hrs of epic views and fun hiking. less people, easy to get to, good workout, not alot of elevation gain. the saddle for lunch is the best you will find.

One of the best hikes we have done. We parked at the split of Munds Wagon and Hangover. The road to get there is very rocky. We hiked the trail counter clockwise. The views are amazing! Got caught in a thunderstorm and had to seek shelter. Amazing to watch the water run off the rocks.

I hiked this trail today and thought it was amazing. The scenery was stunning and the fall leaves were beautiful. I can’t wait to go back and do it again.

5 star review is exactly what this trail deserves. I hiked/ran it and loved the experience. October was really nice weather wise. Not cold and not hot. Great experience and good signage.

Pretty busy, but a great hike. Short enough if you're tight on time but hard enough to make it worth your while.

what a great trail I definitely will be doing this one again.
It's such a good trail for the family not to easy but not hard at all we had our 4 year old and 6 year old and they did great.
there's a great camping site right at the trailhead, I'm hoping to go camp there and do the entire trail next time. it's a beautiful trail and love the sounds from the creek.

Fairly easy at the bottom and then a good thigh burner towards the top with more great views.

Actually 9 miles including trail head. Don't do it if you aren't ready! Waterfall is fabulous. I can't wait to do it again.

Parking filled up pretty quickly, but considering it was a perfect fall day, it was easy to see why. The 1140' elevation gain over 4+ miles was very doable even for a 51yo not used to the altitude. A little splash of fall foliage along the creek among the pines was a nice touch. Loved being able to listen to the water for the whole hike and climb around the spring at the end. A little rocky, a little dirt, overall a fabulous hike!
