A strenuous but doable up and back during late December / January (especially if you walk from the base), but your effort will be well rewarded with amazing summit views of the mountains and water.

I hiked Ben Lomond on end of August. The track to the Saddle was fine, I had crampons on so no trouble navigating on icy ground. But the track to the top is very hard and the tracks are unseenable due to snow. Don't have gaiters on so my feet is freezing everytime I fell on deep snow. The view from saddle is very nice but the summit was amazing.

Fantastic day yesterday. 6/8/2018 . We walked up the access road crom Lomond Cres till the Saddle the over to Arthurs point, a lot of snow so slow going for a while.Took us about 6 and half hours. Track washed out in a couple of places on way to Arthurs point but okay to get around. Its a shame we cannot add photos here.

A great little trail. Brilliant views from the old gold mining battery up the Rees river. Very worthwhile.

Awesome trail in the middle of fjordland National Park. The peace at lake Marian is awesome!

Absolutely stunning vistas, we were incredibly lucky with the weather - 3 bluebird days to enjoy incredible scenery. A good challenging hike

This is where the hobbits live. Lush and interesting. Such a beautiful climb. 3.5hrs total, with lots of pictures, at a steady pace. I would do this hike a hundred times over.

Lucky with brilliant clear views on the way up. Knee high snow for about the last hour made for a lung-buster, but gorgeous, nonetheless. Probably took me 3hrs to the top with plenty of picture snapping. Made some coffee at the hut, then back down in about 2hrs. Low visibility on the way down, but plenty of my own tracks to follow, and fun snow tromping. Even if you only get to the top of the stairs section and don't go all the way to the hut--go for it. I think anyone could accomplish the stair part, if they take their time and just enjoy it.

Awesome track! Took us two hours to reach the end (one way) and it was worth it. The track is not exhausting (I am medium fit) but can be a bit slippery aspecially when you go back down.

Great hike with an amazing view at the lake. It’s basically a climb the whole way until the last 5-10 minutes when you descend into the lake.

Hard track with 1941 steps and after it's almost climbing

The view is awsome !

Lived in Okarito and couldn’t stop doing this track, absolutely loved it! If you’re into kayaking just as much as walking would also recommend Okarito Kayak Tours while you’re in the region.

Ran this track with dad in 1 day it was awesome :) Gotta love enjoying gods creation and the freshest air every

Took the Gondola up and started from there. Took us 5h30 return (1h20 to the saddle and about 1h30-45 to the summit). It snowed the day before so it was really nice going up but when going down, the sun had melted most of the snow so it became really muddy/slippy.

6-7 hours hiking and climbing. Make sure you have enough water and proper outfit.

Magnificent. Beautiful rain forest, bridge crossings, waterfalls. Unfortunately snow closed the pass the night before so we couldn't complete the full track but we hope to come back and finish it off next year.

Beautiful views with some occasional and welcome shade. The rating is accurate - hard - with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain per mile.

Had a perfect day with clear skies. 3ish hours to the hut. Three exploring up there. And 3.5 down

Great views. Fair bit of exposure after Harris Saddle. Faced unusually heavy rain fall, hail and snow while camping in mid April 2018. Otherwise enjoyable.

My favorite hiking memory. So gorgeous!

Great hike. Beautiful scenery. Weather was a bit windy and rainy/snowy so the Keas weren’t out. It’s can get really cold up there especially after you leave the tree line. Be prepared to spend at least 6 hours. The way down is just as hard if you want to keep your footing.

Absolutely love the Routeburn... I’ve done it twice with my two daughters (11 & 13) so many highlights.

Most amazing hike I've ever done. The views are spectacular but be prepared for LOTS of rain and very technical/rough terrain. This is definitely not a hike for beginners and day 2 is rough. That being said, it's the most amazing trek I've ever done in my life and I can't wait to do another Great Walk in New Zealand.

Great hike with amazing views of Queenstown and a 360 view at the top! your legs will feel it after this hike, in a good way.

I am 57 and hike a fair amount and in good shape with no injuries. I took the gondola up to the start point vs taking the Tiki Trail.

Note, the gondola starts at 9am or 10am depending on the season.

it took 1.75 hours to get to the saddle including picture stops. The trail is well-marked and mostly in the open so you can actually see where the trail is going to up ahead. it is mostly an incline all the way to the saddle with only a couple of flat spots. the trail is hard pack and worn with some loose rocks but very manageable. There is a small bench at the saddle that overlooks valleys and other peaks. also, it is very windy here at the saddle.

Another 45 minutes to the top. this part of the trail is a significant incline all the way and there are spots where you will need to step high or scramble over some rocks. if you have ever hiked Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale Arizona, this part of the hike will be no problem for you. the trail is easy to follow and, with the number of people on the trail, you can see where they are headed so getting lost is not an issue.

if you are going on the summer, be prepared as nearly all of the trail is out on the open with NO shade from the sun.

I was fortunate to hike this trail on a semester abroad to NZ. Amazing trail, some of the best views I’ve ever had.

A really fun and hard trail. We did it up in 2 hours and down in an hour and 15ish. Going up and through all the amazing stairs and bridges and up loads of rocks was so much fun! hard sweaty work but worth it at the view of the top and with the fun going down too. Wear hiking shoes and absolutely BE CAREFUL! It's super slippery in places and weather changed really quickly as we were going down.

A very nice easy hike through a pretty forest to this serene and beautiful alpine lake. Do not expect any views until you get to the lake :). Walking by the roaring waters of The Gantry is impressive, but it’s not a water fall as some descriptions suggest. Enjoy!

A fantastic, but challenging one day 25km hike from Routeburn to Harris Saddle and back. Conical Hill is a must, the views were incredible. Even got to see Milford Sound.
