Hiked the trail “backwards.” Started out going left on the paved trail. Slow easy incline for the first half following cool ruins and a nice creek. Elevation started to pick up and then we started to hit the viewing points. Steep rocky decent. Awesome mushrooms the whole way and a few wildflowers.

awesome trail to get the heart rate going. it's a steep incline but well worth it once you get to the fire tower!

Great selection of trails! Make sure and take a map of you're adventurous like me

Great trail, intense when going uphill but the views are absolutely worth it

great local hike especially if you live in NYC (and have a car). great workout, lovely views and lots of seating areas on flats boulders. I initially missed the stairs on right that take you into the Giant Stairs area (through a fence) so keep an eye out as there are trails that lead elsewhere. very well blazed. not scary or too technical at all and good sneakers were sufficient on a sunny day. took 3.5 hours with a half hour lunch break.

Nice, short hike that became steep at times but fun with beautiful views of Schroon Lake.

Great hike but very strenuous. Make sure you’re in shape for this one!

Amazing and exhausting trail. Completely the whole loop and sweated a good 5lbs. Next time I'll be better prepared with more water and hiking gloves

Great trail, with a good variety of terrain. It has a nice incline up to a panorama to work the legs and embrace your inner adventurous kid. Perfect place for sunny days - good tree coverage and a cool spring to dip in the toes. The ruins along the trail are a nice place to take a beat. A bit of traffic throughout the trail but it was a really nice day. Doggo friendly

5miles /3hrs. Summer. if you did the route backwards, there would have been less uphill but the uphill bit would be intense. Good views and saw a lizard. Cold spring looked a good place to stop for refreshments after.

It was a great hike with superb scenic on the top. But be aware of stairs and immediate inclining hill (with lots of rocks) in the beginning, which sadly made our friends gave up the hike...

I started on the red trail. Now let me warn you right now, this hike is extremely difficult because of how steep, rocky and narrow the trails are. I did the entire loop and if it wasn’t for my phone gps guiding me I’d be getting lost. It’s like a maze. The good side of this was the views from the tower. I have never seen anything so beautiful in my entire life. Plus, I got caught in the rain and mist! I was so tired close to the end, sleepy, hungry and in pain lol.

Great hike! Some areas were challenging but overall a fun heat pumping hike! The views from the summit were outstanding! Very dog friendly as well!

Both scenic and challenging. Greenery and trees along the NJ/NY border. Challenging rock climb & descents at “The Giant Stairs.” Bring a backpack: pack water & snacks. Don’t be a litter bug :)

Awesome trails. Just avoid the carriageway (boring to hike) – you can catch trails all the way instead.

Also note that the trail to the falls may be cut off after plentiful rain, but it's still worth it just for the Mossy Glen section (immediate left off carriageway at parking lot).

Hiked on 7/28. Awesome hike, steep in spots, great lookouts when offered. Recommend going up the Devils Path and down through Jimmy Dolan Notch.

really challenging hike but felt so good to finish!! definitely need to be in good shape to navigate all of the rocky terrain. great views of the hudson river!!

a go-to walk for me. this trail allows add extra loops to make this as long a hike as you'd want

Beautiful views of Schroon Lake from the top.

Well marked trail - took just over 3 hours for us to finish the loop with our small dog (carried him for a few parts). Beautiful views, pretty empty in the early to mid morning but was picking up when we finished (noon ish).

If there was a higher classification than hard I would give it. We were not prepared for the difficulty of the scrambles. It had rained on and off recently and they were very slick. We encountered a rock avalanche, which we were told later is a common occurrence after and during rain. Scariest thing in my life! Luckily we did not get hurt/Hit as we were about 20 feet ahead of it. We had kids ranging from 8-13 with us. They all did well, but looking back really not for kids under 12. And they need to be athletically inclined.

Well marked trail, moderate ascent rewarded with panoramic views, good shade on a sunny day.

This was an enjoyable hike. Some of the views are breathtaking.
If I were to do it again, I will just do the red trail to the fire tower and back, as thats where the best views are. The yellow trail was long and did not offer much in terms of scenery.

Rock scrambling and steep climbing. I had an amazing time. Don’t forget to visit the women’s federation monument. It’s a beautiful structure. I loved this hike. This will be my second time. It took me 3 hours and 4.5 miles because I stopped to enjoy the scenic views and walked on unmarked trails. The waterfall was sad this time. It needs to rain more. Enjoy!

Its one of the hardest trails I have done in Northern Jersey, all because of the grand stair case.

Correction- I followed the map exactly as per All trails and my Apple watch says it was 4.7 miles instead of 3.7 miles. Took me exactly 3 hours at a leisurely pace.

Caution - I started this loop at 6.15pm in mid July and it got dark by the time I was half way through giant stair case (1 mile shifting boulder climb) and really dark on my way back up. Kinda scary because of terrain. Try and start early in the day.

I loved this hike! I'm an asthmatic and I forgot my inhaler, so I had to take frequent stops, but the view from the top was completely worth it. Absolutely breathtaking!

Hiking through the boulders was super fun and the stairs at the end were crucial.

My husband and I did this hike in June and enjoyed it! The trail is interesting and well maintained. In the beginning you start out by going through two tunnels under the highway, very cool! We only saw a few other people on a nice Sunday morning and there is ample parking. The only problem was the bugs - the mosquitoes nearly ate us alive. As long as I remembered to pack bug spray, I would do this hike again.

The giant steps were described to me as a “unique and challenging experience”...that’s about right.

Good hike that’s accessible from NYC by train. I’m a decently fit 20-something and found the hike up to be challenging. Nice views but very busy - you won’t be the only one on this hike during the summer. We only went to the fire tower, and we were briefly turned around when trail markers disappeared. Pay attention to the path, and make sure you hook back in to the red trail on the way back from the tower! If all else fails, there is service and the trail is marked on Maps.
