Ran the loop in about 1 hour, 20 minutes. For the most part, trail is in good shape with moderate elevation gains and losses. Almost no one on trail after the 2 mile marker.

Took the pup on a trail run. Went about 2.5 miles up before the pup got tired. First 3/4 mile is a grind but with switchbacks and then becomes a little more gradual once you enter the canyon. Great hike late in the season! Take water!

Nice hike but on the high end of moderate. The last 1.5 Miles was walking a very loose and rocky dirt road of an abandoned house community. Looks like they got the roads and the fire hydrants put in but stopped. Now the roads are deteriorating to the point of difficult to walk down.

This trail has everything, great views, easy to follow, easy, moderate & challenging in different areas, lightly trafficked, just a really enjoyable trail to hike. I would suggest starting on T93 and then T92.

This was my first trail to ever hike and it was amazing! Nice path to follow. Not to steep, but at times a bit challenging. The map says 6.7 miles, but Runkeeper app said 7.0. Some signage was a little confusing, but I’m a novice so it was probably just me. Definitely take water. I didn’t need a walking stick, but the other 5 people I encountered had them. It took me 2 hours 10 minutes, but I went pretty fast. I’m 51 and 120lbs and in pretty good shape. It was sunny and warm when I went at 10:00am, but big storms came in afternoon so make sure you check the weather. Would have been bad to have gotten stuck in that storm.

Started at T93 and the hike up was good. You will know when you start the steep assent up to the top. It can be steep at times but manageable. Once you make the top, the views are great. At the top, you will see the split where T93 crosses with T92. Once you start the steep descent down, it can be very rocky. The last 1.3 miles or so is basically a dirt road loaded with rocks of all shapes and sizes. Footing can be very unstable at times. That made the trail less enjoyable.

We really lucked out with just the right conditions to hike this trail. Recent rain had packed the sand making it easier to climb the dunes. It also cooled it off into the mid 80’s which seems quite unusual for July. We hiked later in the evening and arrived at the flats just before sunset. We climbed one of the last dunes, spread out a blanket, and enjoyed the sunset over the mountains and flats. After sunset, The was still plenty of residual light to make the trip back. My shoes kept filling with sand so I opted for walking this one barefoot. The damp sand was cool and quite pleasant on the feet.

Beautiful! Well marked.

Awesome views of the lake. Saw 2 snakes, some lizards, a rabbit and some birds. Did not see many hikers until the end where it combines with other shorter trails. LOTS of switchbacks and a bit rocky at times, but well maintained. Signage can be a bit confusing. Had cell coverage the entire hike so you can see where you are on the maps. Bring water, sunblock and a hat if you plan on doing the entire loop as it can get hot and shade can be sparse at times.

It was 98* and had a toddler so we improvised and took the shorter fisherman loop instead. Not sure I would classify this as easy. It starts off easy around the lake but then there is a bit of elevation you go up. Should have planned to go swimming afterwards. The scenery is beautiful!

Did this in reverse, making for the hardest climbs up front. Beautiful views continuously.

This was a lovely trail to hike. There were many switchbacks, beautiful views of the lake, and surrounding mountains.

Great little loop on the lava beds. Many birds, reptiles, and insects to see. Path is paved, and you can venture off onto the beds themselves. For the experienced hiker you can consult the park staff about trekking to the vent itself.

Good hike with views of lake for two of us in mid 70s.

This is a nice trail but beware of the very aggressive wasps as you get close to the river bed. My son and I both got stung just walking by their hive in the rocks near the trail.

Definitely easy trail but if you’re not prepared, you’ll be wiped out at the end. This is one of the most beautiful trails me and my family has EVER accomplished. Hundreds of breathtaking views! Takes a few hours if you’re in it for the scenery... have fun!

It's amazing that minutes from the village you can hop on this nice trail and be in the national Forest. It's a well marked trail with just the right amount of challenge for a family or "older" person.

I don’t know that I’d call it a trail so much as just a great wilderness area to explore. It’s a bit of a trip to get to it but once there, the options for hiking and exploring are wide open both on this trail and a bunch of others in the same canyon area. I’d say that it would be pretty near impossible to get lost unless you’re in a very low visibility situation as the landmarks are plentiful and if you have any clue how to read a standard topo map, you’ll be just fine.

It was completely empty the day we hiked it and a good bit of the surrounding area so it was great to get away from the world for a bit.

I wouldn’t classify this trail as easy - the altitude and change in elevation was pretty strenuous. But it was challenging and fun and gorgeous. A dip in the chilly lake on a hot July day was the perfect reward and the end of the run.

Love this trail. I’d do it every day if I could!

Parking was a little rough having to leave your car next to the road. Trail is nice once you get off the Jeep path. Cave was easy to find.

This trail is wonderfully challenging and very picturesque. It was very overcast this morning and breezy but still quite toasty. Definitely bring plenty of water. Trail markers are frequent and I did not find an issue with finding my way. I used my hiking poles and they were very helpful in areas where the sand was difficult to trudge through. I'm definitely going to do this one again!

A bit dry, needs rain in area, but still a wonderful morning hike. Lots of birds, a few lizards, and 3 deer spotted. Do watch for horse poop on trail.

It gets hot during the summer months!!

Did this as a hike to get acclimated to elevation. Good trail, easy to navigate. Uphill the first two miles, with lots of long easy to run switchbacks in the middle. Last mile or so back down was quite rocky. Went out about 10:30am, not a lot of tree cover so bring your hat.

Good family hike. Just went a mile out and back due to time restraints. Have to share the trail with mountain bikers.

We started this hike late in the afternoon with our 8 yr old and 4 pups. It was a moderate hike with some areas being a bit steep. Overall a great hike with some really nice views. Very few people on the trail which made this really nice and enjoyable. I would recommend using the map in the app because there are some areas where the trail splits. It took us a couple of hours but we took our time to enjoy everything.

A must-see...very interesting. It’s definitely an easy trail. Try not to hit the hottest time of the day during the summer.

Well marked easy trail with some nice views of the lake.

It was a bit more challenging than I thought it would be. I probably wouldn’t take children on this hike because it was rocky in lots of places and there were many places to slip. I would rate this as more moderate.
