Took the pup on a trail run. Went about 2.5 miles up before the pup got tired. First 3/4 mile is a grind but with switchbacks and then becomes a little more gradual once you enter the canyon. Great hike late in the season! Take water!

A easy hike in the white sands. Very beautiful. Remember to take a sunglass as the white sands reflect the sunlight strongly.

Awesome trail! Great one to do early in the AM and to take visiting friends and family. I'd go on it again.

Rocky on village side and climbing for last part on rocks. Beginning is easy and nice. Go to Mexican railroad trestle before then follow this. Makes a nice hike.

Great little loop on the lava beds. Many birds, reptiles, and insects to see. Path is paved, and you can venture off onto the beds themselves. For the experienced hiker you can consult the park staff about trekking to the vent itself.

A must-see...very interesting. It’s definitely an easy trail. Try not to hit the hottest time of the day during the summer.

My family and I have made multiple trips, but today was the first time we actually completed the route, thanks to remnants of a tropical cyclone moderating the temperature and giving us some much needed rain. Starting from Oliver Lee Memorial State Park, it's not so bad up to Frenchie's Line Cabin, but then it gets very steep and very narrow. There are wash outs on the narrow trail, and could be potentially dangerous, and looking around, particularly up, could become hazardous while walking. Once we got to about 4 miles, the trail is much less picturesque for the duration. We did have a wonderful time, but having finally conquered Dog Canyon, I wonder about doing it as often as we have in the past.

Great views and kid friendly!

Stunning photo ops! Recommend going for sun rise or sun set.

Trail was great and lots of wildlife, trail maps on app are confusing as they do not match trail maps. Example: app says 2.8 miles but the are 8+ miles of trails in this trail system. We were happy with the eight miles!

Great up and down easy. Blue sky everywhere!

amazing trail! the weather was perfect and I love how you can see White sands from there!!

Tough hike once I reached 3.5 miles.. stopped at 4 miles . The hike back to truck was slightly rough suggest good hiking shoes and thick socks.

Feel great & stronger.

If your not in shape your gonna be hurting

Nice hike, but not the best of the park

Amazing! Great trail, kids had a blast and not too strenuous! If you like geocaching there a some great ones along the trail!

This was a great hike, views and terrain, awesome! The weather was mild being February (a plus). Being a 42 yr old Midwesterner with no significant local elevation changes this hike was a challenge but doable, 5.5 hrs out/back. You need to be in reasonable physical condition to complete it though. Also, must take plenty of water and some snacks. Well worth the planning!

Perfect for a morning stroll. Nice and easy. I went in March and saw a half-dozen bird species. Great with kids.

Easy and nice trail. Excellent views

Nice, easy hike. If you feel adventurous you can get off the beaten path and explore a couple of caves along the way. Some of the cave hikes are quite a bit harder with steep inclines, loose gravel and some scrambling required.

Amazing views and wildlife. Like others have said, moderate trail til around the 2.5 mile mark, then becomes much harder. The transition will be quite obvious, though.

Excellent trail for running. There is plenty of shade and a waterfall. I'll make this one of my regular run spots.

1 month living in the desert, this was a welcome treat. trees, sunshine,a little snow. We trekked with our dog and 4yr old. lots of other trails, we will be back soon.

Great trail, made it 2.5 miles in before my hiking partner and was gassed and needed to turn back. The views are amazing and the trail is challenging, definitely bring lots of water.

Beautiful hike, one of the best I've done so far in New Mexico. Canyon is stunning, views breathtaking. Except for the first mile I didn't meet anyone at the trail (a sunday in june). Trail is easy to follow, but between milemarker 3 and 4 it can be tough, in some places you'll have to watch your step. Last mile and a half until dirt road is relatively level.

This is my favorite trail in the Organs. Best in late summer.

This was SUCH an amazing hike! It is exceptionally difficult- we made it 2.5 in, through the second set of switchbacks! Absolutely GORGEOUS.

Bring LOADS of water, maybe some snacks.

We will be going back!

By the way, bring 5 dollars cash, and be prepared for an all-day experience!

Great trail, particularly in the snow covered tracks!

10/10 would recommend. The trail offered lots of views from the canyons, the waterfall and the mountains (if you are willing to go off trail and climb some boulders). We were there on an early Sunday morning and basically had the whole place to ourselves. Late afternoon we headed back and the trails started to get more packed and the parking lot was full. The trail is a very loose rock/gravel so make sure you have a good supportive shoe. We saw a couple of mule deer and really enjoyed our time there.
