Did this Dec 9. The vehicle access road to the trailhead parking lot closes for the winter on Dec. 1 so the hike up the road to the trailhead adds 4.5 miles round trip, making this a 12 mile hike. The log crossing was easy as there is a log handrail next to one of the main crossing logs, so even though it’s icy, you can easily hang on and feel safe as long as the water level is low. Could have used yak tracks in a few icy spots but no need for snowshoes right now. Pretty views of Hood and the falls are beautifully iced over in parts. Almost no one out today due to the weather.

It's a Moderate hike I'd say. the out houses were locked when we got there so that was kinda cruddy. Hike wasn't the most beautiful, in my opinion. Although, the closer you get to the falls, the more scenic the trail becomes and the waterfall itself was pretty stellar. Trail is a little narrow in some areas. Pretty rocky towards the top, so just be careful during the winter or simply when its wet.

It was a great trail. Not too hard and a great length. How ever, I believe the 6.9 mi. that this app says is wrong. My garmin watch said it was close to 9 miles. Went late November and hiked through some snow! Slippery but just be cautious. And crossing the river is fairly easy. Enjoy!

Awesome, relaxed hike. Crossing the river wasn't too bad - it definitely looks scarier than it is. We went the first weekend of November and there was no issue, but I'm not sure how high the water is now that it's rained recently.

Fun relatively easy hike! Be prepared to walk on a log to cross the river! Super pretty and pretty empty trail!

11/18/18. Relatively easy hike, mostly flat, well-defined trail. Beautiful views of Mt. Hood when the forest opens up a bit. Ramona falls was an awesome way to cap off the hike.

I’ve done this hike so many times now. It will probably always be my favorite! It’s great for those who are new to hiking, or haven’t in a long while getting back into it. It had a nice steady incline until you reach the last stretch of stairs. The views are amazing!

Awesome hike. More than 3/4 for the road of potholes have been filled in. Snow was fun to hike in.❄️

This was a beautiful and easy hike. Mostly flat hike with some moderate up hill areas. The river is easy to get across on the logs, but could be hard with pets or small children. There are a few beautiful views of Mount Hood, especially near the river you have to cross. Ramona Falls was even bigger than I expected, it’s definitely worth the hike! The area around Ramona Falls is roped off for vegetation regrowth, so please obey the signs and don’t pass over the rope.

Beautiful but surprisingly more difficult than expected due to being on sand and pebbles. Crowded but understandably so due to the views and starting right on the beach.

I'm sure this would have been a lovely hike, however, make sure you don't bring dogs or young kids. I went on 11/3/18 and the river water was rushing badly enough that we couldn't figure out a safe way to cross with dogs. We went up and down the river as far as we could find but there wasn't any where with a log large enough for a big dog to cross comfortably. Perhaps if we had harnesses on the dogs and could have them walk across with some help with the leash? We ended up turning around after my friend's border collie tried leaping off the log a foot in. I did see two sets of families with two big dogs each and I wish I had asked them how they got across. Overall, I'm willing to take risks but I'd skip this until Summer if you've got a dog large enough that you can't carry them.

Absolutely worth the hike, arrived just after 8 am on a Sunday and had the trail to ourselves. Definitely not kid or big dog friendly unless they can cross the log in the river. Round trip took about 3 hours and that’s with stopping up by the falls to refuel & enjoy the view.

Day couldn’t have been much better (unless it was sunny, twenty degrees warmer, and no other people...). I’d be inclined to reconsider this as moderate, or at least at the lower end. It’s thoroughly enjoyable, and the loop to follow the stream downward, to me, is absolutely worth it.

Last time I did this was a year and a half ago during a heat streak. Both times of year offer something different and wonderful.

Very peaceful walk, hearing the sound of the river on the way out and a drop over a ridgeline into the quiet zone the way back. With the campgrounds closed and early start we were the only ones on the trail until we got back to the start. The falls make for a worthwhile destination. I look forward to coming back to see spring run off.

Extra cotton.

This was a great beautiful and easy hike! We had planned on making the loop bigger and checking out the views of Bald Mt. too, but my my partner was getting sick and not up for 13 miles! I’d do this hike again in a heartbeat!!

Wonderful hike with an amazing view of Mt Rainier at the peak.

However, the main road to the trailhead is closed for the season. We did not know this. So it was an additional 5 miles from the parking lot to trailhead.

All in all an extra 10 miles, but it was worth it.

the waterfall is a great spot to stop for a snack, the river crossing was easy once we figured out where it was. gorgeous views of mt hood!

10/19 (Fri midday): Picture perfect views at the peak and all along the way. We had a clear, sunny, warm autumn day with no wind. Not one, but two clear blue lakes along a mostly flat trail to a short, steep climb to the peak/fire lookout and stunning Mt Rainier looming super large, so close you could almost touch. Big wow for my east coast guests. Popular hike but not overrun. All mountain hikes I know require driving a long gravel road like this route in, so not sure why everyone is so freaked out by it? Road is in great shape and well maintained, as you would expect with a back road in any National Park. Handled it in a rented Impala no problemo.

I did this during the summer and it was definitely worth it. The views when you get on top are awesome! Before you get back to your car, stop by Mowich Lake and check it out.

Gorgeous day, beautiful hike. The Johnston Observatory closes for the season in less than a week, so it wasn’t crowded at all. We only saw 10 other people on the trail today.

I hiked this trail in mid October on a foggy-turned-sunny day with a couple friends. The views were spectacular. Mt. Rainier consumes half your view when you get to the top and St. Helens is off to the west. The hike was really easy and fast so it's a great hike for a half day instead of a full day. Also, the dirt road leading to the trail is long but wide and well kept. I took my Ford Fusion up it at 25 mph no problems.

A must do hike if you live in Washington or Seattle! Great views of greenish blue lakes break up the hike on the way up. Not a super long hike - once you hit Eunice lake, it gets steeper but not long to the top. Amazing view from the peak of Mount Rainier! Drive in gets bumpy about 45+ minutes from trail head.

When we got to the lake it was nice and sunny, but not much longer when we got to the peak the fog had come up so fast we - couldn’t see anything

We hiked the trail on a beautiful sunny day and the scenery was gorgeous. The 10+ mile gravel road is like a wash board in many areas but there are few potholes. A truck or SUV will have no trouble. A car will have a bumpy, slower trip. It took our group of three 60 year olds and two 30 year olds about 4 hours to do the round trip. We took a lot of breaks, pictures, and had lunch at the fire lookout. The rating of moderate is accurate for this trail.

Beautiful hike! The falls are amazing. We look forward to spending time camping here next summer!

Easy trail, obviously scenic, waterfall is beautiful ... just wish I had more time to spend here. So amazing ... and it’s close to the city.

Beautiful hike! Could be a bit challenging for those not wanting to walk on a log to cross a small stream but aside from that the hike was flawless. A must when visiting Mt. Hood.

Amazing hike.
The trail is not as hard as it looks from its distance because the first 1.4 miles are flat or downhill.
Rainier view are along several points of the trail, and the view at the top is stunning.

Absolutely magnificent trail. Would highly recommend during the fall season. It took us 2+1+1.5 hrs car to car. It’s an easy hike which is kid and pet friendly. However the drive till there can be tiresome once the gravel road starts.

Awesome trail! It took me approx 1 hr 10 min to get to the top, got quite steep in some parts but so worth it! Hardly anybody on the trail in the morning. I ate lunch at the lookout just admiring beautiful Mt Ranier! and some birds came and tried to steal my food
