Good trail with a nice challenging climb. Maintained well and easy to follow. The entire hike was a steady climb uphill, not many places where it leveled out. This is perfect practice for beginner hikers who want to hike a mountain at a higher elevation. My husband and I got to the trail head around 8am on a Saturday, only 2 other cars in the parking lot, and saw only a few people on the way up. On our way down it was much busier, saw many groups coming up and the parking lot was very full. I’d say if you are looking for a peaceful climb, get there early. It was a cloudy morning and very windy and cold at the top, storms were moving in. Even with the cloud cover the views were great. Will most likely do this again on a sunnier day.

This has (or, rather, had) become one of my favorite hikes. However, just within the last month or so, the town of Palmer Laker (presumably driven by a few dog haters) has completely banned dogs from the trail.
It was bad enough last time I did it (about 6 weeks) ago -- they had plastered the trail with DOZENS of signs stating "Dogs must be on leash" -- it was literally visual pollution.
But, apparently that wasn't good enough for the haters, so now dogs are banned. I didn't notice the sign at the trailhead (I've hiked it 5-6 times, why would I read the signs), but saw it after we'd done the hard part and gotten to the first reservoir. This is a foolish and hateful decision by the town.

Hiking up to the peak is beautiful, but the sawtooth from south trailhead to the peak has a lot of direct sunshine and it can get very hot. The trade off is a magnificent westward view.

Did this trail in June. Waterfalls weren’t super impressive. We took a few wrong turns d/t lack of signage but ended up on a higher trail with beautiful mountain views. Couldn’t tell you how to get back there but THAT hike would be worth it to do again.

Quick hike with some elevation gain and great views as the payoff. Limited parking near the TH, so get there early. The trail is pretty much all about going up, but no significant climbing or barriers.

Mostly incline on the way up, but the views are worth it! Beautiful!

Nice hike, shade/sun mix.

I just moved from Florida so I’m still getting used to the altitude change but not hard otherwise. Beautiful place for picnic at the second lake. Very serene by the water.

My family did this hike we had someone from sea level and they were able to do it I would recommend this hike for younger kids and a first hike. At some parts were not well marked over all we thought it was pretty good

I liked that this trail had variety of sceneries. Many shaded area as well as some meadows and rocky terrains. Great for dogs since there is a creek running by, and the lakes to get to. Wild flowers are beautiful in August. I saw a coyote (I think) and moose!

This hike offered a quick escape from Denver heat today, but not much escape from crowds. We enjoyed the trail, but it was very crowded and of course, there was a lot of dog poop along the trail and two dogs off leash, despite someone asking the owner to leash them. I think this hike would be much better during the week; it was just too busy on a weekend.

Beautiful hike, mostly uphill going in with a few flat breaks. Reservoirs are lovely. Kids ages 4-7 and grandparents age 60 had a great time.

Great trail. Scenic, very challenging

Scenic and forested. The last 3/4 of the hike got hard and had me wondering if I was ever going to make it, but it was worth the effort to get to beautiful mountain lakes.

Fun hike and cool spot to look out and see everything! We took this hike when we didn’t want a long day and combined it with a visit to Squaw Mountain

Wow! A little rough up going in for a beginner like me. But, it is all worth it what a view at the top! Can’t wait to bring my family here!

This trail gets a bad wrap here! it was actually beautiful and the signage was just fine. I counted no fewer than 5 signs directing me along the trail. and the map IS accurate. just follow it while you are walking (pull out your phone when you get to a fork in the path) and if you take a wrong turn you can easily see it on the map on AllTrails.

nice 2 hour hike, trails are not marked very well in certain areas.

Traveled with a 11 month old in a pack! Summit was breathtaking. The waterfalls are simple...not sure we found the real falls! There is a ‘creek’ area that was perfect for the little one to toddle around and throw rocks. I’d definitely recommend this trail.

Cool hike and views from the upper lake. Many, many people due to the parking lot being so big. I would rate the TH to the two lakes has a moderate hike and if you choose to go up that last .5 mile is hard. There are two trails up, the one in view from standing between the lakes is a scramble up and then down 150 ft to the lake. The trail to the east is steep too but drops you at the lake shore.

overall, nice hike with tons of people.

Nice little hike on my lunch break. I would recommend it. Love the blue seat at the top.

What an amazing hike! I wouldn’t call this an easy hike but it’s easy/moderate. The trailhead is tricky to find when it’s your first time but is right after mile marker 18 if you are coming from Idaho springs on the right.
You can’t beat the views from the top

Amazing but exhausting!

Well maintained trail with beautiful views.

You will see disapointing views from others but ill just advise, this is a creek falls not waterfalls so its small. The upperfalls you will need to trek thru a creek to actually see the creek falls. Nice boulder formations surrounding it and hike itself is a nice figure 8 loop w 2 parking lots. Ive hiked this 2 times 9/2014 & 7/2018 and both times it was a great wooded hike.

Trail is not well marked for this particular route. It was beautiful but more crowded than others that are just as beautiful.

I would not recommend this trail even though I would say it provides a decent workout with some pretty scenery (nothing too special for Colorado IMHO). My boyfriend and I ended up getting lost due to the fact that the trails are unmarked. There are lots of unmarked forks you and you need to guess where you are going.

This was not a pleasant experience. We ended up walking miles more than we wanted to. All of this could have been avoided if there were signs and at least an accurate map that showed the forks.

Lakes r theraputic. If I hike this again Ill either camp at the base and do rogers pass the following day or camp at the middle of the trail at the lower lakes n trout fish. Def wish I knew it was such a great camping area w so many alike enthusiast to share the adventure with. The hiker companionship is strong w this trail.
