Good trail some parts get a little backed up with traffic. Get ready to climb rocks, decent physical challenge not too bad or exhausting.

i enjoyed the view!

I hiked it this morning, hoping to see a sunrise at the top. However the rain clouds blocked any “red” from the chimney top you can see. The trail is well maintained and easy to hike in the dark with a head lamp. I’m hoping they work on the last quarter of a mile and open it to the public so you can get closer to the unique tops.

This was an amazing hike. The falls were beautiful. It is a very steep climb, so be prepared for this. But it was not unmanageable by any means.

This is a great hike. My partner and I have done it twice. Once in the winter and once in the late summer. My goal is to do this during the fall to see the leaves! The dog loves this place! Through hikers are always so pleasent... WATCH OUT FOR THE SNAKES!

Really enjoyed the scenery on this one. It was great to be on a trail that didn't have a lot of traffic. it was slightly grown over but not hard to follow. I would not however rate it as easy. The hike out was a monster with all of the elevation being at the beginning/end. Follows a stream the whole way and even found a spot to jump in. Stumbled on a mama bear and cub but once I started clapping at them they took off in a hurry.
Overall nice hike but the hike out really busted my butt.

Absolutely beautiful view! Well worth the climb.

Second time this. We were with a Make-A-Wish fund raising group. It was super humid, but lots of fun. Great views of Harpers Ferry

A bit of a "meh" from me and my 12 year old daughter. The views of Carvins Cove are amazing, but Hay Rock itself is utterly forgettable. The multiple power line crossings also detract from the experience. We clocked it at 7.9 miles round trip from the park and ride, and would rate it as a pretty solid "Moderate" in difficulty.

worth every step

The upper loop was challenging but leveled out at the top. plus there were much fewer people on that part of the trail

started off as the only people on the trail, pretty eerie. but as we decended, we crossed paths with a handful of other hikers! a lot of bushwhacking to the summit, would recommend long pants if you want to avoid scratches! such a beautiful view, great place for photo ops!

beautiful hike. glad we dove the extra 2 hours to get there. one of the best views on the AT.

In my opinion, the best views in the area. A steady climb with plenty of switchbacks brings you to a breathtaking view of the valley and reservoir below.

Challenging in spots with an amazing view for a payoff. Can get a bit crowded at the top.

This is a nice, well-maintained wooded trail with lots of ferns and some scenic overlooks. It got a bit congested, but it was a nice local day hike.

Took about 3 hours total out and back. Amazing views at the top. It's uphill for almost a solid 3 miles, the trail up to chimney top is marked by rock stacks along the trail. The trail is well marked the whole way and is even clear on the side trail to chimney top. The side trail is very very steep so be prepared. This trail is definitely difficult but totally worth it the the views.

It’s a great hike, not as strenuous as people claimed. Nicely maintained trail, with a lot of stairs. My 5 year old hiked up without any problem. She was super disappointed that we are no longer allowed to climb the big rock on the top. I thought there would be some rocks to climb at the end, but it was only the newly built platform. The view on the top is ok, not spectacular. The view of the stairs is much better.

Great hike. If you take the left trailhead it’s about a mile uphill. Good workout. Great bouldering at wolf rock and beautiful view at chimney rock. Lots of rock jutting out on trail. We took time outs at both wolf and chimney and did the loop in 2 hr 30 min. Will be back!

Wonderful hike with lots of altitude! Def got my heart racing. We finished it up with a rest at the top in about 2 hours.

This is a Smoky Mountain classic. The second mile to the overlook is intense but the views are totally worth it! Great mix of forest setting in the beginning to panoramic views at the top. Wife and I had a great time and would definitely would recommend!

Yup, STEEP. Felt like more than 3-4 miles up to the top, but when you go the way back down, you’ll be “oh that’s all?” :-) I enjoyed hiking this trail even though I had to make some stops to catch my breath! Spot a black bear on the trail, and had to wait some good 10-15 minutes before it left the trail.

Lewis Falls trail is a loop and we did the full loop, but if you don’t think you are up for a steep climb then head to the falls by starting out to the left from Black Rock and then return the same way. It will keep this trail at a moderate level for you because the steeper elevation climb is on the other half of the trail. We did the whole loop at went up the steepest part (not down...last time I trust a tip from some guy in the parking lot). There wasn’t anything magnificent to see on that steep side so if you decide to double back to make the trail easier you won’t be missing anything exciting. When you are at Lewis Falls you will see hikers at the upper falls to your right, but do yourself a favor and go left. There is a trail marker near the water. Cross over and there is a very short trail that will take you down to an observation point for the lower falls. It’s worth the few minutes it takes to see a different view of the falls.

Beautiful hike. I got lost but managed to find myself back on a trail! Found a rattle snake so be aware of your surroundings. Happy hiking :)

love the views and cliffs. much wild life

Great hike with variety! It’s rated as easy, but may prove a bit more moderate for some mostly because of stream crossings. Some up and downhill, but mostly pretty level with stream crossings and rock scrambles. Towards the top of the loop there is a small detour up a steep hill that takes you to a couple look outs with beautiful views. Take time to enjoy the couple water falls on the way back. It took about an hour and a half and that included stopping and exploring around too. I really enjoyed this hike!

Well worth the switchbacks and climbs to get to the summit - spectacular views. Last bit at the summit is not dog friendly, so we took turns going out on the ridge. Horse trail was a little less rocky than AT or hiking trail. We just missed a mama bear and cubs, but saw another pair about 10 minutes before the parking lot. Keep your eyes open.

switch backs almost all the way up but beautiful views from the top

Great hike. Most of the trail is near the river. It has some beautiful views.
