HikingBlowdownGreat!IcySnow

Nice trail that was very well marked, had maps available at each trailhead, and several benches and a picnic table along the way. Be aware there are 2 trail heads off Wier Rd (as the road ends at 2 ends of the system). Each lot at the trailheads had space for 4-5 cars each plus some off road parking space. There were snow mobile trails, but with the low snow amounts it looked like they hadn’t been used much. Did the trail in the direction as indicated in All Trails, and that worked out well (did the loop in the counterclockwise direction and took the blue trail after the farmstead to avoid traveling on the section of Wier Rd that’s inside the trail system). Did find it was helpful to have the All Trails GPS feature to help with intersections (there are more trail names at site than indicated on All Trails). With the recent (early March 2021) cold, snow, and warm spells the trail (while well-worn and easy to follow) was fairly icy. Micro spikes worked best on the trail, although others had Yak Tracks or no boot aids and walked along the sides of the trail. Wier Road (inside the trail system) is a wide road that can be hiked on, although there are other trails (blue, various loops) that run in parallel through the woods for a more enjoyable hike. You can add several other trails and loops to your hike to get more than 3.5 miles out of your visit. Farmstead was interesting, had a picnic table, some old farm relics spread out to view, and an info kiosk that provided some pics and backstory of the farm that was interesting to check out. Only ran into a few sets of people and was able to complete the trail (with some extra trails and several picnic stops) in about 3 hours. There is a fair amount of clearing that was done and the signs at the trail heads describe that was done to help new growth. The clearings are spread out over the trail system (22 of them), so the woods are fairly easy to see through. No mountain views. But there are some nice views of a beaver pond. There was a large newly blowdown tree over Wier Rd on the way back to the trailhead, with a well-worn path around it.

Great conditions and clear view at the top. There were not any significantly steep sections, but still needed spikes. Short hike for an incredible view!

HikingGreat!IcySnow

The trail is very easy to navigate, well taken care of and a gradual increase in elevation. There are some ups and downs. During winter the stairs pool water into little ice rinks so watch your step, depending on the day I advise spikes just to be safe but not required on the way up sketchy on the way down without them but doable. Very short hike with fantastic views and about 3/4 of the way to the summit. Also parking on either side of the road is easy for any vehicle. Thank you,

Hiking

Just tried this trail today. Very pretty for a winter hike. I would definitely rate it as easy. Cleats were helpful, as the snow was a bit slushy and slippery in spots, but no ice, due to warm temperatures. There was some water flowing, although I'm guessing much more in the spring. Very relaxing, enjoyable walk. Although the parking lot was full, we didn't pass anyone else.
