Great short hike with pretty decent views at the top on a clear day. Trail was well packed; used spikes, didn’t need snowshoes.

Used spikes the hole trip and had no difficulty. The deepest part of the gorge is closed off but there are cute covered bridges that make the trip worth seeing. Trail was easily navigated

Gorgeous hike but definitely need traction especially near the bluff.

This trail was beautiful! Nice short hike in the cold and we used sleds to ride down. Trails were nicely packed and the weather cleared up when we got to the top. Would definitely do this again :)

Beautiful hike during winter! The views from the top are phenomenal; some of the best we've seen on the east coast. With several feet of snow, we sledded back down which was incredibly fun. Nice short hike.

Easily the best effort-to-payoff experience we've had. We went during winter so we didn't have to pay and there were not a lot of other people around. The park is not maintained during the winter, so the snow on the paths isn't shoveled and there are no rangers patrolling. Be careful on the wooden paths as these can get very slippery.

Short hike with a great view at the end.

Great quick hike for a fantastic view. Parking lot is a sheet of ice and trail was slushy. Great hike for beginners or for a pre or post work day.

A quick stop to see something special. Bring your camera because you can get some great shots of people there!

I've been herw many times. Gorgeous things to see. Lots of people and heavily maintained.

Super gorgeous but extremely popular. It's a quick walk from the parking lot with stairs the whole way. Still, it was gorgeous to see and I got some great pictures of the kids!

Great hike! A little dicey this time of year without good footwear bc of all the ice on the ground. But all in all it was quick and easy with great views.

Parked in the cannon parking lot and hiked the loop counterclockwise. The way up to the viewpoint was not nearly as icey as the way down.

we love it here. easy and full of good memories.

Great trail for all ages. We enjoyed the winter view!

Beautiful views at the end of this fairly easy hike. A large portion of the trail though is a sheet of ice. Be sure to wear microspikes and be prepared to slide a bit.

Great hike for those looking for a shorter outing in the Whites. The trail was mostly moderately graded with a few steep sections here and there. The snow was packed out well when we went, so only microspikes and poles were needed. Great views at the top for the effort. It took about 1:10 up and 40 minutes down.

A nice, short hike to a pretty waterfall. The snow was well packed but microspikes were helpful. Unfortunately the lookout path over the falls was closed for the winter, but you can still get a good view from the top and bottom of the falls.

Completed this as a winter hike. Little bitter rougher hike with snow on the ground. Did the hike in regular boots with "Stabil" slip on traction from L.L. Bean ($26/each). Hike length is correct about 1.4 miles from trail head. The hike was moderate. Great view of the frozen falls at the end. The trip was definitely initely worth the pay off.

Nice hike. A balmy 14 degrees in the parking lot, but beautiful sunny day. probably 2+ feet of snow, especially near the top, but trail is well packed. Spikes and poles make this good footing. Views from the top are great. I considered coming back down Indian, but it was very lightly travelled.

Beautiful walk. Cool activities throughout the trail

Mostly brush and woods, only afforded two real views of the river. Well kept and marked trail.

We’ve explored a lot of New Hampshire these last few years, but I have to say, today was probably my absolute favorite hike. I love winter hiking even more than spring, summer or fall. What I took in with my senses today I will cherish forever. BTW...super short hike with multiple viewing spots. Bald mountain summit was a bit scary, but Artist Bluff a piece of cake. Tyler didn’t make it all the way up. But, with a lot of determination I did!! Yay!! (We both have tremendous fear of heights).

So a friend, me and her toddler (he was carried, lol) did this hike Oct 7. The Bemis portion is beautiful, the only thing is to meet back up with the Arethusa trail it’s pretty much straight up. We managed, but be forewarned to avoid the Bemis section unless you want to 1) back track or 2) climb. The falls are gorgeous and the trails were well kept. I’d love to do it again after the winter thaw.

Good moderate hike. Nothing fancy, just a good, steady climb. Great views from the top. Was a little slick in spots, with some ice. The top had lots of ice, so wear appropriate footwear in late fall and on.

We took Bemis Trail (yellow) up and stopped at some amazing smaller which was pools and falls. The Bemis Trail is about .5 miles long. The one thing to consider is when Bemis joins back to the Arethusa Trail (blue) it is a STRAIGHT up using your hands at times to meet back up with the Arethusa Trail.
We did it with our 9 year old and this was the only portion he complained about.
The falls were well worth the hike. I could have stayed all day.
Note: If you are looking at hiking this in the November+ days at least microspikes are recommended.
The map shown on this page is just the Arethusa Trail, it does not show the red on Bemis.

A review that I should have posted 3 yrs ago. A 1st hike in the Whites for myself and son in law. We weren't in the best of shape, and without poles. At the top although soaked with sweat( Climbed in summer) we were rewarded with amazing views.

We had a great time hiking the .3 miles in snow to the falls. It's a beautiful place and a short walk. The stairs were closed to view from the upper area but we still got great pictures and took home some wonderful memories.
