Ok to bareboot going up and used spikes most of the way down. Lots of folks out today.
Great weather-snowier than expected and should’ve brought spikes but didn’t feel inhibited by not having them
nice slushy monorail. lake was still frozen. definitely wear microspikes.
First 1/3 of the trail was pretty icy, but the rest was a combo of mostly packed down snow with a bit of ice. Micro spikes were a necessary! Around the lake was packed down snow, but make sure you stay on the trail because inches to the left or right are very soft and you'll sink in to your waist!
Snow all along the way. I saw a few people who did the hike in normal shoes but I surely felt much better with microspikes. Specially while coming down as it was steep. The views are totally worth it though!
Only made it halfway to the lake, definitely needed spikes! Slippery snow and ice.
Monorail was surprisingly intact throughout but very narrow around the lake, easy to post hole. Overcast so no real views of surrounding peaks.
Hiked this trail last April. Loved the circling the lake and plank, lined trail around it.
Beautiful- very slushy
Stunning ********
Great trail, packed down. Used spiked. Lake is frozen and can walk right across.
Hiked Friday March 12 on the way to Cannon Hi Trail. Bluebird Day and spring temps The only reason I’m giving this a three star is the conditions. I wore micro spikes but post holed about 200 times. If you go I recommend snow shoes Made it to about .5 miles from Cannon peak and had to stop. Conditions were Icy and steep. Since I had no ice axe or crampons I decided to head back Did have fun sliding down the trail in the way down. Will be back in the summer
just did lonesome lake to dodge cut off and down Hi-Cannon. trails are powder packed but you probably need spikes to go down as there are areas where the sun hits that has iced up on the Hi-Cannon. If you step off the packed powder you may posthole up to your knee
Amazing hike. Bare booted all the way up, the lake was frozen solid so we walked straight across it instead of doing the loop around where we heard the snow wasn’t packed well. Spikes and butt sledding on the way down.
Beautiful sunny day, 28 degrees, on a well packed trail. No need for snowshoes. Fantastic view across the lake. Hut boarded up.
Spectacular view from the lakeside. Well packed trail, spikes and poles. Gentle flurries starting during our descent, picture perfect
Beautiful, trails are well marked
Awesome hike as always! No view today but still beautiful out. Micro spikes are a must.
No snow shoes used. Only microspikes
