One of my favorite trails! Has trees, wooded trail and beach at the same time. You do have to walk next to road, which doesn't seem like a trail, but you're on the right path. Continue, it really does loop! I love this trail!

Great trail for mountain biking sound/ocean views, bridges and variety of terrain!

Good trail, had some really nice scenery and would be a good running trail. It does get pretty buggy in the marshy areas so bring some deet.

This trail is well maintained and has some really pretty views. Plenty of shaded areas as well as sunny areas where you get a good view of the ocean. We brought our five daughters with us and
they had no problems doing this trail.

great trail to walk

Nice easy trail but it was too buggy and humid to walk in July. This is the only free trail. The other trails closer to the ocean are only accessible through the aquarium with a paid admission. It is too bad that isn’t clearly marked in their site or in the parking lot. The admissions office was helpful.

This is a federal installation. This trail is not authorized for running, hiking, etc. as the area is used for military training.

Nice, quiet trail, thick vegetation, we are a family of four with 2 kids ages 5 & 3, we pushed an all terrain stroller fairly easily, some inclines harder than others. Trail winds up and down, but I would consider it easy. Single file waking only, trail is slim. There are some ponds along the way, we saw little crabs, a few birds, a frog, lots of dragon flies, a few butterflies. End of the trail has nice views of the Bogue Sound. On the way back I picked 2 ticks off of my leg and I used Deep Woods spray, guess it didn't work all that well. Bring bug spray and keep applying, there are lots of bugs, especially mosquitos.

Overall nice trail, we enjoyed it!

Very nice trail. I can't wait to break out the stroller on this one. Beautiful ocean views

The trail is narrow but very soft on your feet. There are 2 options for trails according to the directional signs, only go right. I tried both and when I went left the trail led to a nice beach area, but then ended in high-suction mud where I lost a shoe and had to return sock-footed. But again, the trail is very soft. And the scenery is nice.

An alright trail. It is very short, but is well kept.

This is a nice walk, we walk this often with our boys. Also a good trail to run, there are a number of people who use this trail for that purpose.

Nice scenic trail which I did several years ago while campjng/geocaching in the area with my four Shih Tzu companions.

I did a portion of the trail on my bike at the end of March. I started at the large parking lot for horse trailers (I’m guessing). No one was on this portion of the trail which was nice. I made it to the beach and walked my bike to enjoy the driftwood and water view. Their were more people walking along the trail following the water. Great for beginners!

This is a beautiful trail with mix of hikers and mountain bikers. Travel is single track and bi-directional. There are elevation changes on the beach side with great views of dunes, beaches, and ocean. The sound side offers a canopied trail with numerous boardwalks and nature sitings. Two or three laps of this 3.2 mile loop make a great workout.

Great trail! I needed a good area to walk my overly energetic dog, and this place offered more than enough to peak her interest!

A very easy walk with several vistas of the tidal marsh along the trail. Also, there are several walkovers with great views of the marsh and tributaries. Wildlife viewing depends on the time of day and year. Highlights from today's walk yielded great white and blue herons, a kingfisher going about his business and several passing ibis. I often visit this area for wildlife photography but was on a plein-air outing today. This is my favorite walk-about when in this area.

Nice views and a good amount of secondary trails to explore

Very easy, mostly flat stroll through the woods next to the mouth of the Neuse River. The trail itself is nothing particularly special unless you are lucky enough to spot some wildlife, but you are likely to see more trash than animals. The beach and picnic areas nearby are really pretty, peaceful, and accessible, but the trail is not particularly well-maintained (for the record, the deeper you get into the Croatan Forest, the nastier it gets--I've never seen so much litter in my life). Certainly recommended for light outdoor exercise, but not for nature-viewing.

A short, easy and uncrowded trail with nice views of both the marsh and Bogue Sound. I saw lots of wildlife on my relaxing early morning hike.

Beautiful sunny hike- would highly recommend!

Great walking trails! And the benches every so often make it that much more enjoyable for beginners

Such a great trail to have next to the beach as an option to not walking the beach. The dune-side is up and down, so it is a pretty good workout, with some great views of the ocean and the forest-side has nice views of the intercoastal water way.

So serene and relaxing!

Really nice and quiet little trail. Well kept.

Beautiful meandering trail through the thick maritime forest, marsh and dunes. Easy hike with diverse terrain and lots of sweeping views. At the midway point, hop over to the public swim area for a beach front lunch break. Easily completed in 1.25 to 1.50 hrs.
