Did the taco ride so only about 11 miles of it but its always a beautiful ride. The trees look very beautiful in the fall.

Flat with river and some trees.

Nice surface, tons of wildlife, no interruptions.

Very beautiful! Especially in the fall. Lots of caves to explore, both big and small. Be prepared for some good cardio, lots of stairs and hills. To hike all the trails took us approximately 3 hours. Would definitely go back!⭐️

Love! My absolute favorite!

Not a bad trail great places to look out at the river

Great trail for an easy walk. Travel the loop counter clockwise and camp at the last camp. It's an awesome little open grass field with great shade trees and a good creek for collecting water. I did this trail in a few hours with my 14 year old son...so needless to say it's a pretty easy walk. Very enjoyable and I would do it again.

The trails were really easy for our family with young children and there were a lot of cool caves to explore. It was fairly clean and nice facilities.

Very easy, but actually quite a variety and an adventure!

This trail is very well maintained in both counties, however Wayne County side of the trail is grass. When I biked the trail, the grass was mowed short and we are in a draught so it was pretty much all dead. According to my Garmin it is 15.5 miles from Chariton to Humeston. 10 miles to Derby from Chariton. This is on an old rail line so the sites are nice and they do have areas to rest on the way (some are in need of repair). I would highly recommend the trail for trail running, biking, walking and best of all, dogs are allowed.

Great place to hike and explore!

Awesome trail. Lots of caves to explore including a huge walk through one. This map helped alot to keep us in the right path. The trails aren't well marked. This 1.7 mile path took us about 3 hours which included plenty of water breaks. We will definitely go again to explore more of the trails.

14 caves and 6.6 miles

This is an equestrian trail. The lake is pretty, but equestrian trails do not make good hiking trails.

Great for riding fun to all.

Love coming out here during the summer. This is probably one of my favorite places to camp close to Madison and I love the trails. When your up on the bluffs you have great views of the campsite and creek below. The "bluff trail" being my favorite as you can find delicious chanterelles up there (and angry wasps too haha) if you know what your looking for... They pop up all long the trail. Just save some for me please! Speaking of, this area is a hot bed for fungi hunters, found a nice chicken of the woods and a few other random edibles while out. Lots of good memories out here with my dog and my girlfriend hiking the bluffs.

Had a great weekend at yellow river. We hiked about 15 mi Saturday and only saw one other person out trail running the whole time and the weather was fantastic. We did see a few horse riders. The trails are very easy most are set up for horses. The Bluff view trail had gret views of the river and big paint camp ground. There was alot of water in the streams we forded the river twice in almost knee deep fast moving water which was fun. Camp ground was nice and well kept. Primitive toilets and no running water, not a problem for us but thought other might want to know.

Very fun hike! Good for my 4 and 7 year old boys. My only complaint is that the trails aren't marked well.

We were @ the caves in Maquoketa state park on Sept17th/ need to have garbage can's @ least outside shelter buildings. Only in bathroom and they were very, very over full! Lots of garbage down by trails / around the caves. I realize they can not get so easy to garbage can's down by caves but there is a solution for a small part of this. People riding around in gators can @ least dump the garbage can's in the bathrooms. It was between noon and 3:00 when we were there. Hate to see such a great park get run down by simple things that can be done. The caves are wonderfull!!! Our grandson loved them.

My family and I love the caves. We enjoy hiking here a few times each year as it is fairly close to home. The trails are beautiful and caves are definitely a great work of art by nature. The kids and dog love getting dirty while spelunking through the various caves and creeks. Highly recommended!
