This trail let's me get away from the sounds of traffic while I walk. Don't walk alone after dark on this trail. I've found some very unfriendly people like to go there at night.
Bikers on this multi use trail have NO bike etiquette. NONE! This trail is the South Salt Lake section of the Jordan River Parkway Trail. This is a heavily trafficked multi use trail. Mostly bikers who do not use bike etiquette. A few times I almost got hit because I didn't know they were behind me. Bikers is it so hard to say "On your left" or "Passing" or something.... This trail is paved the whole way which makes it good for wheelchairs, skateboarding, running, biking, or just plain walking. There are only a few small sections that you can actually see the river from the path. Trail is noisy because you can hear the cars on the road. There is parking at the General Holm park where the trailhead is located on a dead end street. (Use your GPS) Tracy Aviary has a nature center at the end of the trail towards 33rd south which is kinda cool to visit. There has been mentioned about the homeless camps on this trail, so when I ventured out I was looking for them. I didn't see any, none. The trail was clean. The only encounter I would like to point out is a man I passed who was NOT wearing ANY clothes, None. He was walking South towards the parking lot, and I was walking North. I mention this because this is a sketchy area of the trail and people have mentioned being warry of the homeless population on this trail even though I didn't see any today.
Walking the freeway overpass at the end was more interesting than the whole trail. Having to cross streets is such a real inconvenience. Half the canal is dry. Awkward walking past strangers’ backyards. Dogs bark in your face. Once was enough.
Nice walking path as part of the greater Jordan River Parkway. This section will have homeless/rougher looking individuals so you will have to be comfortable with that element. More so in the evening.
Loved going all over the place today.
I was a little confused about where the designated bike trails were, then realized it was basically just the road. But it's a nice quick ride, took about 10 minutes getting to the old mill.
Ok dirt path to walk/run on. It’s a flat path in the city that runs by houses and the canal which was empty for half the path. Not a hiking trail. No snow right now. Other reviews mention the path being overgrown, but I didn’t notice this at all.
Nice, easy trail for a quick walk
We started at Knudsen Park. Trail isn’t super great for dogs as you have to cross roads but it is pretty and the mill is cool.
Easy access and parking. Paved trail. Convenient location. Broken glass, trash, and thorny plants with poky seeds that I kept having to pull out of our dog's feet. Homeless camps by the water.
Great uphill run!
If you're riding a bike bring extra tubes/patch kit. SO MANY THORNS!! Got 3 flats on our 10 mile ride.
Nice and easy paved path. The time we went, it smelled like vinegar on most of the trail, and the water feature was dried up. But otherwise, nice.
The middle section is overgrown but still fully passable on bike. This canal has not been beautified like the one by wheeler farm or the Jordan River Parkway, but maybe Someday if enough people ride it. Very quiet and peaceful. Only one real road crossing at 72nd I think. You can enter by the Bball courts of the new Midvale elementary. No goatheads in my bike after riding so please don’t bring any with you.
Not too busy. More cyclists than people on foot.
Nice paved walking trail along a river.
pretty easy, a bit past 33rd South, appears to be some horse fecal matter, best to steer clear
***No Amenities **Barking dogs at the very end of trail.
I did not enjoy the trail, because of gnats and unclear path.
As of today, not so overgrown (just weeds and trail, but not tall weeds or difficult to walk through at all). Its nice that its so close and follows the canal but you are walking by peoples fenced in backyards most of it though often overgrowth obscures some of it. Fairly quiet though get some road noise for sure, and definitely not crowded at least on a Thursday morning.
Not a hiking trail. This is a paved path by businesses and homes for the most part. It has decent views of the mountains and a few sections with greenery. Best for either easy bike riding or pushing a stroller.
Very easy trail, we did biking, some parts are shady, nice for walking, stroll friendly, highly recommended! You can bike, hike, walk, and run.
I've been running this trail 4-6 days per week for the last three months and have repeatedly loved it, especially the sections that are not roadside - very nicely groomed with trees, plants, and a few wildflowers. Today, I was quite surprised to see that there was absolutely no water in Cottonwood Creek and the Old Mill Park holding pond was nearly dried up! Not sure what's going on there, but still a nice trail.
This trail is a really good small trail that has a decent amount of shade and a nice walk by the river but it is highly overgrown in the middle section of the trail and you will not be enjoying it if you mind walking through knee-high weeds. Distance is a little bit shorter than AllTrails describes it’s about a 1.7 point to point.
excellent for Longboarding
