HikingNo shadeOver grown

Gorgeous hike but somewhat hard to follow. Once you pass the beaver ponds, cross the river and stay on the trail. There’s another (marked, but less traveled) trail up the right side of the canyon that ends on a rock ledge with no path to the upper valley. Also, there is very little shade (many trees were killed in the recent fire), so bring water and start early.

Overgrown, very hot and buggy. Huge snakes crossing trail. Would probably be a nice fall hike with the Aspens. Not enjoyable in July due to heat and flies.

tried to do a repeat of this fantastic hike but the creek at the trail head was running away to high to get across so we turned back. Getting there is a major challenge since the turnoff sign from the road to soldier creek is missing and the "road" across the private lands and then up the canyon REALLY sucks.

Hiking

My 10 yr old daughter and I hiked this today. We enjoyed the Canyon and made it all the way to Soldier Lakes. Only got 1 tick on me, 2 bull snakes and 1 rattlesnake. Would definitely hike this trail again but maybe earlier in the spring to avoid the snakes. I dislike rattlers...

Completed on 4th of July weekend 2017. The TURN OFF for trail head is about 2 miles past all trails directions. Trail climbs for first 2 miles then last 3 flatten out to rolling alpine meadows. A little muddy in places and about 5 mild creek crossings. We moved at a 3 legged dog pace and made it up in about 3 hours. Who knew Nevada was so damn beautiful!? We camped away from the lake in some trees for shade. Still a lot of snow patches for the dog to play in, even in July. Beautiful and secluded, we didn’t see any other people during our 3 day trip.

Beautiful view, trails are still a little muddy but most the snow is gone. There are a few spots where you have to cross the creek so be prepared. We camped and there are no trees at the lake, so bring your own shade. Lots of flowers blooming in July

First to Review

Very steep climbing first mile, levels out as you climb. I went during early June so there was an abundance of wildflowers, butterflies, and wildlife.
