Great trail. Crowded by the time we were coming down. Lots of big groups with no concept of trail etiquette. Tons of erosion damage near the top from people shortcutting. The switch backs could be marked better and that would really help people stay on the trail and not cut up.

Beautiful views and well marked. Make sure you go past the basin at the very end to catch the grand view :)

HikingScramble

Not much water flow at the top and some icy patches but still beautiful and worth the climb. There is some loose rock/shale and slippery dirt. Wear the right footwear. This is my third time hiking up there and the trail conditions were over all ok but there are a couple of spots on the switchbacks that are dicey. So many people cutting the switchbacks have made it tricky to tell where the trail is and made it precarious for anyone not wearing the right footwear. Overall I would not recommend this for young kids and anyone with dogs that aren’t used to hiking until it can be fixed (if it can be...) and even people new to hiking. This could easily be a dangerous situation for anyone inexperienced or unprepared. WHICH IS WHY YOU SHOULD NOT CUT THE SWITCHBACKS!!!

CampingGreat!Rocky

Gorgeous trail offering seclusion, stunning views and a lovely experience of the kinds of forested microclimates one finds on these Great Basin ranges. Definitely pack sufficient food, and a water filter if possible (there are a couple creeks and springs along the way). One of my favorite hikes that I’ve done anywhere.

Hiking

Average trail not a whole lot to see. AllTrails starts the hike back at the road but the parking lot is 1.5 miles in; walking the road won’t get you any views, but a whole lot of dust from the cars passing by. Hike is pretty short it ends in some rocks you can scale- not really worth it because there is nothing up there but if you’re feeling athletic

Great trail but has become extremely washed out. Go at your own pace and wear proper shoes as trail has a lot of lose gravel now. The view is worth the struggle though.

Hiking

Just getting into hiking and this was our first trail. Overall good experience. The Mountain View’s were very appealing with massive almost vertical tree covered mountains and rock cliffs all around. Felt a little like being in the valley at Yosemite and looking up. The trail was rated as moderate and was a bit challenging for my untrained legs. Definitely a good workout. About half the trail was completely covered in small loose rocks which made it very difficult for my small dog to navigate. Went on beautiful weather Monday and probably crossed about 25 people during the entire hike. Overall good experience with the best part being the magnificent scenery.

Hiking

A nice, moderate hike that was challenging at first because of the altitude. A lot of switchbacks and a few pretty steep spots. Very small waterfall at the very end but a few nice spots to rest when you get to the end

Hiking

Nice trail. I’m not sure what the actual trail is supposed to be like, but we went to the right and zigzagged our way to the top on a ton of switchbacks. Fairly steep and gravel the whole way. Pretty cool spot once you get to the top

HikingIcySnow

Completed this hike on 4/11/2021. Still plenty of snow and ice in the chutes coming down off the peak. It was hair raising enough that I forgot to turn the recording back on when I paused it to put my micro spikes on, so take into consideration that my recording is about 1.25 miles (and about 400' of elevation) shy of reality. Tons of snow below the ridgeline when you make your way down the South leg of the loop. Very slow going! Lots of post-holing. Between how slow it was to place every step and trekking pole placement while navigating the avalanche chutes below the summit, along with almost having to break trail on the South leg descent, I was 12 hours start to finish. With all that being said, I still rate this a 5* trail. The views of Charleston Peak from the North leg, the entire canyon from the summit, Mummy Mt from the ridgeline... Exhilarating! When the trail wasn't covered in snow, it was in great shape. Maybe just wait until May to try it :) Really my only gripe with the day (aside from being totally exhausted from dealing with snow) was that the South Loop approach along the ridgeline mostly travels through completely burned out remains of a forest fire. Notes- free parking at the Echo trailhead and Trail Canyon trailhead (outhouses at Trail Canyon, not at Echo). As of this recording, Mount Charleston is still in winter season mode, and only the Fletcher View campground is open (and was never not completely full). The cheese burger at The Retreat at Mt Charleston kicks @$$ Cheers!

Hiking

Gorgeous hike. Waterfall was more of a trickle. Quite busy and popular. Wore a mask most of the hike. Trail is quite narrow at times and easy to go off track. Stick to the switchbacks. Despite the posted mileage, this was a 3.6mi hike out and back. Took 2hrs including our stop at the “falls.”
