Combo of Blue to White from the waterfall!

Great trail even for a cold, windy 35 degree weather day mid January. Went to Cambrian Overlook and the other Overlook past that. Brought hot coffee and a PB&J and sat at the top overlook to have a snack. Wonderful time!

It's a great trail, but there are too many random dogs

Kind of a weird trail that follows a gravel road for half the distance and then turns on to a path that you would normally associate with a hiking trail. The falls are nice, especially after a lot of rain like we've gotten recently. Overall an easy hike with a pretty waterfall at the end.

Bike trails in total make a beautiful meandering training workout. Wonderful in Autumn

Was a wonderful easy hike. A little treacherous going down to the bottom of falls. Beautiful area.

Great hike. 1 mile in. Climb down. Two awesome waterfalls then 1’mile out. It’s clean. No trash. Great hike.

great water

Beautiful views, but very hard to stay on the loop as trail marks are confusing. Got off on side trail few times. Thanks to blue gps dot on the AllTrails app that I could find my way back. Otherwise five star trail. Will do it again.

awesome area, well maintained trails and a ton of cute activity areas for kids. Not too bad of a walk up to the overlook, but a little muddy today! bring some good boots:)

Nice hike. Flat. Great for dogs and kids.

4 stars only given due to confusing trail markers. See notes at bottom. Truly beautiful preserve, could spend all day here meandering through the creeks and very serene. Fall colors are still out. Be careful of slippery rocks.

There is no map posted at trailhead. It looks like there is an attempt to make it easier by putting small signs with main spots noted (frog pond, high cliffs, boulder field). But, the trees are also color coded and did not match the trails posted on this App.

We followed this route and made it about half way (to the turtle rock) with no problems. After that, there was no clearly defined trail, so not sure if the original maker bushwhacked or just over time this trail wasn’t used.
Needless to say, we ended up getting out via the Powerline Trail, which borders a neighborhood. So, overall give yourself time to explore this place as our mileage (after getting off trail) was closer to 4 miles.

Fall colors are still popping but not much longer. Perfect 60 degree day for a walk with the dog and son:)

Beautiful short hike in the middle of Vestavia. Delightful!

Great park in the city, good for all skill levels.

pick this trail up during the eureka mine trail.

WARNING: INCOMING BOOMER POST!
"Back in my day, sonny (in the Golden 90s), this was definitely the teenage party spot!"

I had a really great time hiking for 4 hours there. I found the toughest sections to be fairly easy. There's a creek running alongside the Mud Trail. Some of the grasses alongside the trail get pretty tall so wear pants or keep an eye out for ticks. $5 to get into the park. I'm 41, in decent shape, and only hike occasionally when I'm out of town for work.

Mostly just old mining roads.

There are some incredibly interesting things in the park. Old mines, confidence courses, tree houses with swinging bridges.
The cutoff trails are really nice but the main “trails” are lots of gravel road walking.

I really like this park.
The overlook at the quarry is a big draw, but the sunrise thru the trees on the Orange trail is spectacular.(Sunrays & spiderwebs)

I normally do the White to Yellow then loop back for 6 miles or.......if Im feeling frisky, White to Yellow to Orange. There are really only 4 uphills on Orange but be ready.

if you're familiar with the maps and trails that's great but a lot of places truly need blazing. very easy to switch to a different trail

however I absolutely love love love this preserve

No view :( I’ll go again and try a different trail. I’ve been told if I continue up lizard loop there is a great view from there. It’s a fantastic gem in the city. The 3 stars in no way reflects Ruffner as a whole, just this particular trail was sort of a letdown when it came to a view.

great trail. very kid friendly.. even took my 8 month old (not in a stroller, on my hip)

Most poorly marked trails I have ever been on. Did not even know what trail I was on till i was well into the woods. Lots of trails that branch off and you have no idea which one to take. Had to eventually pull out my All Trails app so I could figure out how to get out.

Being from Birmingham makes this hike even better. I can still enjoy nature while also being close to home! The trail is filled with flowers and unique creatures! The quarry view is gorgeous but my favorite view is the one of downtown. Super cool.

Easy trail, with a nice swinging bridge to check out right before the overlook.

Some easy and flat trails, and some that are more of a “hike”. Good variety for running, walking or hiking. Very shady too!

For an Alabama trail, this one is very nice. Not hard at all, and offers some cool views of downtown Birmingham.
Worth the while to go up the steps to Vulcan Park and view the city/take photos from up there!

Love this place oh so much! The location of the trail is in a neighborhood. It took a little time finding it the first time because of that. Once we got on the trail, we discovered plenty of beautiful sights! Then we got lost for a while. The trails are not marked clearly. Nevertheless, we came across a friendly hiker that lives in the neighborhood! He showed us the way out! Not only did we have a fantastic time hiking; we also enjoyed talking to the hiker! After the workout, there was a nice popsicle stand right outside of the trails. I went once more and will continue to visit because of the rawness of the nature in the up-and-coming community! I highly recommend going! Also my pregnant sister was able to carry a baby in her stomach, and another child strapped to her on the trip. Therefore, the hike is fairly easy. Enjoy!!!
