Took about an hour and fifteen minutes just keeping a brisk walking pace. Got in and out just before sunset. Really rocky in most parts of the trail so look where you are going. Not too much elevation but it’s a good quick hike.

one of my favorite hikes. easy to moderate then the last 500 feet is difficult.

Easy fun trail.

on Wave Cave Trail

At the start of the trail, you will come to a fence which appears to discourage you from entering, but you actually have to walk through it. Otherwise you'll get lost and wind up on another trail and have to back track. See attached photo of the fence. You have to walk through it were the orange posts are.

Other than that, it's not too bad of hike. I would call it moderate.

May want to bring gloves as there were some points where you need to grab rocks for balance/footing.

This trail is on the tougher side of moderate for those less seasoned. The ascending climb to the cave can prove to be difficult but “surfing the wave” at the top is well worth it. At the fork, make a left not a right. If you find yourself having to crawl through brush, you went the wrong way!

great for extreme mountain trail riding. The optional wild horses makes it so much better.

Very easy no great views of the river

This was absolutely breathe taking. Got to hike an see all the wild life up close. The the adventure we were able to make.

Cons: It is extremely easy to lose the trail.

Pros: The trail offers a little bit of everything including beautiful views challenging climbs and cool breezes down the canyon.

Beautiful, moderate, pet friendly trail. I recommend going at sunrise to get a stunning view of the valley and surrounding mountains.

This was NOT a moderate hike. It's lovely at the cave, but so hard to get there. Like everyone said, easy to get lost.

Perfect trail for beginners with a scenic view

Finally Hiked The Wave Cave!!! Loved it with GTAH AZ....Kicked my Butt, one of my top 5 favorite hikes!!! Amazing scenery riding the wave :)

Great hike but I clicked it at 5.6 miles took us 3 hours, everyone was nice on the trail.

This is NOT a moderate mountain biking trail. It’s super rocky and very technical. It is only for the advance rider and one who is in excellent shape. I am an intermediate skilled rider and this trail kicked my ass. I crashed once and had to walk the bike through some very sketchy spots. Proceed with caution.

This was longer than the review; it came in around 4.7 miles from my calculations. I enjoyed this hike and it was a great workout! Definitely a challenging hike for me, especially the last 1/4 had steep, rocky switchbacks. The views were definitely worth the climb and I loved seeing the fountain. Very clean and well kept trail. Loose gravel and pretty rocky at parts, so just take it slow when needed so you don’t fall! Would definitely do it again!

Started our September hike at 8:15. (Should have started at 7:45 due to the heat) on a busy Saturday morning. Saw numerous dogs and young children and thought this would be a nice easy hike. Ha. Didn’t see any dogs and only 2 little super girls complete the loop as it appeared many chose a distance to go out and back. Would call this hike comfortably challenging and a good workout.

Took the counter clockwise loop. This way added .2 to the trail summit and .2 less on the return. Hike had a decent elevation change.

Beautiful scenery as the crowds thinned out after a mile in. Many jagged rocks especially on the downhill return made me realize I need stronger bottomed hiking shoes.

As with many of these All Trail short mileage estimates, I clocked over 5 1/2 miles to and from the parking lot.

Nice hike. Would do it again.

good trail. nice hike . but somewhat dull

Really fun trail. You definitely have to pay attention to where you are going, since the trail isn’t marked besides one sign in the beginning. It is definitely a harder moderate hike, challenging at the end but that’s when you know you are near the cave! The views are well worth it. Love this one!!

Start early, it gets hot quickly. Good hike but very rocky. Lots of people out on the trail. We saw a couple of chipmunks darting around. Great view of Scottsdale near the top.

The beginning of the trail is not really marked. We got a little lost and had to look out for foot prints. Once you start hiking the incline it’s easy to follow.

Great little warm up trail, breaking in a new Mtn bike.

Sunrise is a great hike with light traffic. I access it using the Ringtail Trail that is further East of Lost Dog Wash Trail. The downside to this trail is that it’s really rocky which can be difficult to navigate for those not used to the desert terrain. Otherwise a great view at the top and have always met great fellow hikers on this trail. Definitely worth hiking, running and some even bike it, but it gets pretty tough the closer you get to the top.

it is fun hike but a bit crowded and some people talk during the hike.. which is not very relaxing to hear non-stop talking..
But hike is fun itself. try to start before the sunrise you will be fine. and bring more than 1 bottle of water per person.

Go early because it gets HOT! Very little shade, bring plenty of water. Views are nice, little traffic while I was there.

Got to the trailhead at 6, reached the cave by around 7:40 with a couple breaks. We started from the second/further lot. Views were AMAZING at sunrise. Worth it to get there early because you are shaded almost the whole time coming up! Can be slipper coming down, steeper than expected. Cave is super cool. Trail is decently marked.

Great trail for hiking and mountain biking. If you do decide to bring the MTB be sure to come super early to avoid the crowds. Most single hikers will have headphones and not notice you're coming up behind them till the very last minute. Trail offers great views though and you'll only have to "hike a bike" once or twice.

I would do this again, but I would go during the winter.
The area was beautiful, though the the water was muddy brown.
There was a few cairns but not much of a trail. We were walking through some tall grass when I stopped to express my concern about snakes and not being able to see my feet. My buddy came up behind me and and suddenly yelled “snake”! A rattlesnake took off through and almost on top of the long grass less than 5 feet from where I had just walked a few seconds earlier. Very scary, and we quickly turned around and got back to where you could see the ground....

Not very well maintained trail. Wouldn’t take kids on this hike because of the heat.

Challenging enough for a good workout this morning, but I’d still consider this a moderate hike. The scenery and views were great. I’d agree with those that said it was closer to 4.6 miles (which took us a little over two hours). I’d suggest plenty of water, wearing a hat, and going in the morning or in the early evening. The sun was no joke (although the breeze was nice and kept things okay until the last 15 min of our hike). The lot was full when we got there and the overflow lot’s gate was broken. We illegally parked in a neighborhood and felt guilty, but weren’t sure what to do. Oh, I’d also suggest having good walking shoes, or even trail shoes as it is a little precarious at points. Last 1/4 mile to the peak is the most challenging and not for those without sure footing. Worth it though, would recommend.
