Not great for trail running, because most of this is not runnable. That being said — great views, totally worth it.

Nice hike. Well marked up until the bear swamp lake, at which point the directions on map seem to go off the trail and across a small mountain. I stuck to a trail that went around that mountain to the left. that part of the hike was the least interesting to me, and with a missed turn it ended up being just under an 11 mile hike for me. Looking back, I think you'd be better off taking the path to the right of the mountain where the directions go off the trail. All all it was a nice hike.

If I could I would give it 3.5 stars, varied terrain with some nice views, it is a moderate difficulty imo, there is a lot of road noise along the way unfortunately but anyway with this close proximity to NYC it was a good outing.

adventurous and we found a great place to camp!

awesome trail to get the heart rate going. it's a steep incline but well worth it once you get to the fire tower!

Beautiful hike through the Gorge! A moderately difficult hike mainly due to slippery rocks, stairs, and tourists stopping to take pictures. The view of the rocks and waterfalls along the path were wonderful. I will definitely be back!

Take the green trail top the top... see the cacti...

DON'T TAKE THE INDIAN TRAIL... We started hiking gorge and from Jacob's ladder we headed back on Indian trail, the gorge trail as the name suggests is awesome but gets crowded but worth it. The Indian trail has maybe 1-2 viewing points and it doesn't have anything that makes us feel that we are at a glen... So just make sure you get back in the gorge itselff

Great trail, a little too crowded in the summer weekends.

Great hiking trail with beautiful views. Be prepare to climb lots of stairs. We went up Major Welsh and came down it too.

Great trail, intense when going uphill but the views are absolutely worth it

We went up the Appalachian Trail first and though I'm not an avid hiker i was thinking, wow this is pretty easy - it's just a lot of stairs until the last part where it was more "nature-y" to the top. Views were great! Then we went down the Major Welch portion and i cursed the whole way down! Definitely lots of steep rocks and scrambling that I wasn't prepared for! But i did a lot of crab walking with my hands for balance and made it finally. I see a lot of people recommending going up MW and down AT and I'd recommend it if you're a less experienced hiker or have kids with you!

great local hike especially if you live in NYC (and have a car). great workout, lovely views and lots of seating areas on flats boulders. I initially missed the stairs on right that take you into the Giant Stairs area (through a fence) so keep an eye out as there are trails that lead elsewhere. very well blazed. not scary or too technical at all and good sneakers were sufficient on a sunny day. took 3.5 hours with a half hour lunch break.

A beautiful hike for all ages. Not to hard. Being able To see the narrows, waterfalls, bridges all in one hike. It does get crowded but was still very enjoyable.

Amazing trail, lots of stairs so prepare!

Fun trail, only couple of spots where you have to be careful, do some minor climbing which makes this qualify as hard. Otherwise some rocky terrain where you just have to watch your footing for some parts. Awesome views though make it worth it. Good hike for those who want a bit of a challenge in that aspect. Not challenging in the distance aspect or how long it is.

Great hike but very strenuous. Make sure you’re in shape for this one!

Amazing and exhausting trail. Completely the whole loop and sweated a good 5lbs. Next time I'll be better prepared with more water and hiking gloves

Great trail, great views. We had perfect weather. Going up is work, over the rocks but totally worth it.

It was a great hike with superb scenic on the top. But be aware of stairs and immediate inclining hill (with lots of rocks) in the beginning, which sadly made our friends gave up the hike...

I started on the red trail. Now let me warn you right now, this hike is extremely difficult because of how steep, rocky and narrow the trails are. I did the entire loop and if it wasn’t for my phone gps guiding me I’d be getting lost. It’s like a maze. The good side of this was the views from the tower. I have never seen anything so beautiful in my entire life. Plus, I got caught in the rain and mist! I was so tired close to the end, sleepy, hungry and in pain lol.

awesome trail..

Both scenic and challenging. Greenery and trees along the NJ/NY border. Challenging rock climb & descents at “The Giant Stairs.” Bring a backpack: pack water & snacks. Don’t be a litter bug :)

Fantastic hike - no rock climbing experience or special gear required but the entire hike is a climb ranging from steep to moderate. The view at the top is fantastic and absolutely worth the hike! The kids loved scrambling up and down rocks. Almost the entire hike is in the shade so relatively cool and nice breeze at the top. About 4 miles round trip, took about 2 hours with a couple short stops. Trailhead is literally off the side of the road so follow directions and use the facilities before you get there! No restroom or facilities at or near the hike.

Lightly trafficked easy/moderate trail. Good workout .

We started on Anthony's Nose entrance as marked on this map, and the view from Anthony's Nose was pretty nice. However, it came relatively early in the trail. The rest of the trail was not as exciting. The trail itself is pretty challenging though. I would recommend starting at Camp Smith and finishing at Anthony's Nose rather than what's described here.

really challenging hike but felt so good to finish!! definitely need to be in good shape to navigate all of the rocky terrain. great views of the hudson river!!

Wonderful place! I just wish the blazes were better marked. I got lost for 30 minutes, which isn’t long in the scheme of things, but it made me anxious. Eventually, I found my way out.

loop trail takes 1-2hours. The climbing is interesting. The view is good. Very busy during the peak time. Parking is 10 bucks.

Absolutely beautiful! Can’t wait to go back
