Great weather for a hike! We missed most of the fall color, but was still very lovely. The damn bridge is beautiful.

The lake is very pretty but finding the trail is difficult. There were big fallen trees that had been recently cut and the gazebo overlook was really nice. we went in early November, so the trees were pretty and allowed for views of the water. Also, there is $5/car fee.

Very pretty easy fall hike. Varied views.

Nice hike but pay attention to trail after damn. Not clearly marked

4 mile loop around the lake. Nice hike. Restrooms at beginning of trail near cabins.

Beautiful hike!

Nice trail. Trees and lake view. The damn is neat. Got lost past the damn. Very pretty.

Nice trail. Took us about an hour and a half to do the loop. End of September and all the Creeks were dried up. East end of the lake and dam area were the nicest stretch.

Nice hike, little challenging in spots with tree roots, hills and crossing some small steams. Lost the trail for a little bit in the river bed past the damn. Very awesome view from old damn. Saw a snake near the water that spooked some of my fellow hikers, many spider webs across the trail as I was the 1st hiker of the day. Got one of my feet soaked crossing a stream. Overall enjoyed the hike.

Ended up finding a nice trail at leatherwood lake that went all the way around the lake and across the dam. The only problem is it isn't called leatherwood trail, it is called Beachum trail. Never saw a sign for leatherwood trail until we were done and it went away from the lake. it rained alot the night before so the trail was like a creek much of the time. Also had to cross a couple creeks on the trail. There was a waterfall off the dam that was very pretty. I would rate the tail a 5 but it wasnt the trail listed and described.

5 stars for the hills and how hard it was. I had to be on constant lookout for bikers that might run me over. Got lost, maybe it was my fault for missing the signs. Seemed like a lot of trails intersected a lot. I may or may not have got on a few and did parts of all of them. Lol. At any rate I did end up back at my car, so it was a great day hiking.

All the times I've gone, I only bump into local hunters. Probably my favorite due to the secluded area. Best when you can catch water flowing. More to see past the falls most people don't know about.

This hike started as a relatively pretty one and is probably much better suited for winter hiking but...there were SO MANY SPIDERS AND SEED TICKS today. We joked that it looked like the trail had been decorated for Halloween by how covered in spiderwebs it was and spending 3 hours batting spiders out of your face does make for an enjoyable hike.

Word of caution - this trail is well-marked but not referred to by the name of “Eagle View Loop” until you’re well into the hike. You’ll come to a fork on the “dam” structure where you have the option of taking the “Spillway Loop” or the one that heads back down into the forest (take the latter) and about halfway in, you’ll see another split for “Eagle View Loop.” This adds the extra mile or so to bring this hike to the full 5 miles but was one of the worst hiking experiences I’ve ever had - mosquito and tick infested, overgrown and damp. Just skip this part of the hike and continue toward “Lake Loop” and back toward the parking lot. Signage begins to get confusing as there are a few loops that intersect one another so you’ll want to pay close attention to the trail maps at the trailhead (Lake Lincoln parking area) and pick your route accordingly.

That being said, the trail is very doable for all skill levels and I would probably rate it much higher if I hadn’t taken the Eagle View Loop and continued on toward Lake Loop/parking area.

I went around the loop Halloween late afternoon. I only passed one other hiker on the trail, and two in the parking lot that were just finishing when I started. Lots of up and down and some muddy spots. I would hate to see this get overused. Not much trash. Please take a trash bag and keep it that way. Good Girl Scout rule: always leave a place cleaner than you found it.

This trail is so beautiful! On the west side of the lake anyways. In hindsight and if I ever go again, I will hike up the west side of the trail to the bridge then turn around and come back. The west side has all the beautiful views of the lake, and the bridge is worth walking across for great panorama pictures. The east side however, was a much more difficult hike (which doesn’t deter me but it may for some) without much to look at. You can’t see the lake most of the time on the east side. I went in early September in the afternoon, and for whatever reason the bugs were heavier on this side of the lake. It felt like I spent the whole back half of the hike trying to fight the horse flies. West side of lake: 5 stars. Easy side: 1.5 stars

Great views at the dam, good trail

Peaceful trail. Wear appropriate shoes as the trail is mainly loose rocks with intersecting root systems.

Great trail. More moderate than easy in my opinion, but really enjoyed the rock formations and lake views.

Good incline and a good way to get your heart rate up while hiking. The overall trail was a bit overgrown and someone built a house at the end. I was hoping there was an overlook but the trees were to thick. Probably hiking in winter/late fall would be the prettiest. Pretty trail, though.

Very overgrown past the first half mile......Bring a machete May through November & wear lots of bug spray or you will get chigger bites.

Beautiful trail!

This turned out to be one of my favorite trails close to where I live. Beautiful lake view and the rock formations were amazing. I was pleasantly surprised. I can say that the lower trails below the bluffs had a thousand spiders & webs ticks & chiggers, but that's to be expected this time of year. Don't forget your bug spray!
This is a trail I will be hiking often!

also found a bear prints in mud puddle on the trail. Wish I could've seen it. that would've made it even better.

pretty sweet, cool mixture of scenery, definitely needs more blazing but its usually got it when you need it and doesn't have any when you don't.
recent rain has put lots of debris on the trail, cows have torn up a good bit of trail and made it stinky
my GPS came out at 4.1miles not 4.9

but overall ill probably be doing it again

I’m here to write about ALL the trails at Lake Wedington!!
THEY ARE ATROCIOUS!! Someone needs to get this National Park in order. Shame on this park and the people that maintain it!! We traveled through the camp sites and the road had tree roots as big as my tire itself. Trails have not been maintained in years on the North side of the hwy. signs that the “TRAILS CLOSED” look like they’ve been there for years at the North side of road parking lot. After ignoring the sign and getting back in there. It looks like someone took a National Park hiking trail and turned it into a money making bike trail system. Tore the place up for sure. Very sad day for my wife and I getting in there to that mess. So much for the beauty of a National Park! SHAME ON THEM !

beautiful overlook of the Kings River. easy to set up camp near the rim

The trail itself is beautiful. As others have said - the rock formations are very cool and the trail is very well marked.

The reason I am giving this only 2 stars is because of the ticks! I just moved to the area, so I may be naive - but my dogs had over 70 ticks on them after walking this trail. I just spent the last 5 hours picking ticks off of the dogs and I think I could find more if I kept looking. I may try this trail again in the winter, but until then I’m steering clear.

Did this trail in July of 2017. Loved it!!! Bring snacks, extra water and watch for rattlesnakes in the rocky area.

Had my first ride at Slaughter Pen yesterday. Amazing trails, well manicured, and very challenging. Worth all the pain.
