nice n quiet. good incline. plenty of sunshine, definitely need hat and sunblock.

Hubby and I went this morning!! Much more difficult than I expected, almost threw in the towel, but my competitiveness kept me going. The trail needs to be marked better the higher you go...had a blast, but should have taken my hiking boots..tennis shoes dont work!

Beautiful trail, nightmare parking. Get there early!

My local trail! I have been walking this trail since I was 4 (now 25) and it never gets old. It can be hard to find parking during peak hours (weekday evenings and weekends) but always worth it. The woodsy environment is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the Bay Area. The uphills/downhills are manageable for any level. I frequently come here for walks with my mom. Runners love this trail (I personally don't run but my mom and cousin do). This is a very popular trail, so if you have headphones in please be courteous of runners or those moving faster than you!

Doing the loop clockwise is a good up-hill challenge but not overly so. Mostly in the shade during the uphill and not too bad on the downhill section. Some nice views at the top though nothing jaw dropping.

Had an awesome time on this hike, great lookouts, huge rocks and a waterfall(might be more water in the early months of the year). We took the short cut about 2 miles in to head on back which made the hike 3.5 miles and it took us about 2 hours just relaxing and exploring. Highly recommend!

We went there with our dog. It was pretty difficult for us... first part of the trail without shade, so it was very hot, also was very noisy since you walk near the road. The second part was more shady (we also saw a snack). Next to the creek it’s really nice and there are some places where you can get closer and get inside the creek. Overall it was nice.

Decent hike. Lots of inclines for a good workout. Saw some deer and butterflies, but not many views. Lots of shade though so good on a hot day.

Very challenging and fun hike. It’s very steep early on heading up Priest and also very exposed. I started around 8:30am and it was pretty warm by 9:30. Wonderful views near the top and Linekiln on the way back down was a nice change with a little more shade. Loved the elevation change on this hike. Light traffic on a Saturday, very nice.

Fun trail. Didn’t have my hiking boots, so bouldering was difficult. Areas of the trail require you to climb over rocks so be prepared.

Also parking in the parking lot is $8 cash. You can park on the side of the road but be warned that there is a ditch and I saw a car get stuck. Not hard to park, just be safe!

One of my favorite places to visit :) Have been going for years! Love to watch the birds, cows grazing , sunsets or just take my camera out for a spin while relaxing away from the chaos of San Jose.

good hiking trail for the beginners.

Definitely a moderate to hard trail, more on the hard side given the elevation and distance . The entire loop is exactly 9.9miles (starting and ending at the entrance parking lot ) and we hiked it clockwise. The climb to the top is ~4.5 miles and elevation gain is around 400ft/mile and is a great workout (going Counterclockwise results in a relatively shallow climb but a steep descent which is very hard on the knees). Great Panoramic Views of the valley provide some respite in the climb. Bring lots of water. Overall, a great workout and an enjoyable hike

Surprisingly nice trail for a quick walk after work. Some decent elevation gain (especially towards the top going anti-clockwise) and good views.

I went in the evening and found anti-clockwise worked well - singletrack half of the way up and the majority in shade. Sections did have sun in the eyes so sunglasses recommended.

Some of these reviews cannot be referring to this particular loop. I have hiked and run on these trails for more than 20 years and know them well.
It's not long and flat: The first uphill and the one just before the reservoir are moderately challenging climbs.
There is not a lot of shade. A lot of this trail is exposed and can be dry and hot in the summer. It's prettiest in the spring when everything is green and there are wildflowers. And if you go early in the morning or around dusk, you're likely to see some kind of wildlife.

This hike should be categorized as hard due to the length and the elevation. It was quite difficult doing the full loop, but completely worth it. Absolutely gorgeous.

Great hike, lots of dogs, enough hills to get a decent workout. Surprising with so many dogs on the trail that there is only one trash can at the very beginning of trail.

This is definitely a difficult loop. I would not recommend it to people who cannot handle slopes or the heat. The path is also not paved, and may require some climbing over large rocks and boulders. I finished it in close to 2.5 hours, but I stopped a lot for photos and to snack. The views are absolutely gorgeous!

The only con I have is that it's a very popular place, so parking can get difficult to find.

The hike is between easy to moderate. I went clockwise and found it enjoyable. The views of ocean and pine trees of rangers there are very blissful to see. Sometimes, the trail totally vanishes and all you have to do is to get past the boulder or rock covering it. Please carry bug repellent as there are lot of blood sucking insects and they will keep swarming you. Most of the time I could only only hear them. This trail would be very beautiful in raining season.

Great hike with nice variety of views, rocks, and a stream. Took us 3hrs.

easy, shaded, and great for a sunset hike!

Felt like hard tho had lots of fun. Saw wild fox.

Well I’m a newbie to hiking-this was not easy for me, but I’ve done it three times and am getting faster-lots if uphill but a great hike

pretty consistent incline, but perfect for heartrate.

My daughter loved the animals. We would definitely do this hike again just to visit with them.

Not trail running per se, but I would run the entire length of LGCT to it’s termination at Meridian Ave in San Jose, a round trip of 18 miles, as part of a marathon training. It was perfect.
