Beautiful and great hike on a sunny clear 60 degree day September day. Three of us made the hike and took 4 hours total at a slower pace. Great views and moderately difficult. I wore trail runners and maybe a more stout hiking boot would be better as there is some rocks to navigate through at the top of the trail. I loved it. Considering it was after labor day there were still about thirty cars in the lot when we arrived at 1100 and about the same when we left at 3:00. Great hike (we had our leashed dog-he loved it)

This trail was absolutely beautiful!!! A perfect moderate rating. It is very rocky (big rocks, small rocks, lots of looking down where you're walking) so hiking boots with ankle support would definitely make your life easier. Once you get to the top, climb up the big boulder to the left where there is an incredible view of the lake and basin. The climb down to the lake is quick and easy and offers a few more beautiful views on the way down. I'm sure it gets really busy during good weather and weekends, so would recommend an early start!

I loved this trail and the beautiful lake! It is very rocky so make sure you wear hiking boots with ankle support because it would be very easy to twist an ankle. I saw a lot of dogs on the trail, and the bigger dogs seemed to love it but saw some smaller dogs that were really struggling. It also might be a good idea to bring booties for your pups If they have sensitive paws due to the rocks.

Nice hiking trail. Rocky at the beginning, but then opens up to the woods and it's really nice to get away from the city. The views from the top are great and on a sunny day expect to see a lot of paragliders.

this trail was a great and powerful challenge for me and my (now) fiance. I took her on it and little did she know when we made it to the very scenic view at the top that I would propose to her! The entire hike was very uphill but really made you work for the end. it was hard but in a good way. Worth it

A lovely, challenging hike with a stunning reveal at the end. Bring a small picnic to enjoy by the lake. We saw many other hikers and lots of interesting wildlife. Just beautiful.

Fun, beautiful rocky trail with steep inclines pretty much all the way. The path is narrow and the rocks can get slippery.

Beautiful hike!!! Pretty rocky. Highly recommend hiking boots with good ankle support. Make sure you continue down to lake once you get to the lookout. Will absolutely go again!!

Did it yesterday! Just beautiful hike! Really enjoyed it and the lake is breathtaking. A must do.

This was a great day hiking. While there were several cars in the parking lot (September, Thursday, noon) I happened on only one person along the trail. As mentioned in previous reviews this trail is loaded with junctions. There should be maps at the information station at the trailhead; take one of the maps form the information station at the trailhead.

The trail is generally flat until after Shy Bear Pass. When the elevation changes come they do so quickly. At this point the trail also switches from smooth to rocky. Nothing technical but you will want to watch your foot placement.

While the route doesn’t specifically include it I do recommend taking the short spur to Wilderness Peak. Sign the registry, have sit on the bench, and enjoy the moment. While the peak lacks a stunning view you should never miss an opportunity to summit.

Rained off and on the whole hike. Was beautiful and not too busy on a Thursday.

Did this hike today and was not disappointed. It’s as described; lightly trafficked. In fact, I didn’t come across one soul! Lots of trees, large boulders and moss; don’t expect any grand vistas, just cool woods. It would be a good add on for an experienced hiker, especially if they wanted to trail-run the un-rocky spots.

Great trail, can get busy and narrow at some points if you have dogs. But overall it was fun and good end views.

Definitely a sunrise hike! My only complaint would be the trail is like a dry creek bed-very rocky. I would think being part of the PCT would flatten it out more with use. Either way, a lovely hike!

Good little hike. Steeper at the beginning and the end. I thought the view from the top was ok...not breathtaking, but definitely very nice.

Beautiful. After finishing the ascent and going down around the back end and going down the first two switchbacks, and having the lake come into view down below, it was amazing.

The hike wasn't too bad. Lots of rocks throughout, and the beginning of the trail from the trailhead, and at the end of the ascent were the hardest.

Overall, I thought it was completely worth it. Just so beautiful. Make sure you leave early so there aren't that many crowds, or during the week.

Awesome view, not too busy, decently rocky

backing.... it was my first time with my husband, and absolutely loved it!!! I’ve hiked snow many times and never get tired of the lakes! 9-6-19

Watch out for bees, they were pretty feisty. Also, ran into a mama mountain goat and her baby.

This hike was awesome! The hike to the lake was not too bad at all, and the view when you got there was amazing!

A moderately difficult hike in a lush, dense beautiful forest. The trees provided plenty of shade that made the hike all the more pleasant! Make sure to bring plenty of water since there is no refill station!

Nice hike. Went there after seeing the crowd at Rattlesnake Ledge (yikes!). This trail was somewhat busy but nothing like Rattlesnake! Only complaint is that at the top of the climb there’s only a small area for sitting & viewing & not much shade. Lots of shade on the trail though.

great trail for running, decent foraging. unfortunately came back to my window smashed in after hike. Contrary to signage, there are no cameras over looking the parking lot. Still a beautiful trail though, just be conscientious.

A moderate hike. Good to go with kid on back (3 year old / 30 pounds). Parts of it can be steep, but overall manageable. Some switchbacks later in the hike. Gave me a feeling of entering the Jurassic world - dunno why :)
Limited space up top for larger groupss and views are nothing fantastic, but at least something.

Really fun hike, it's a pretty mixed challenge. Once you get past the steep first portion, it's pretty mild and more trail-like until you get to the end. Be careful for bees/wasps, they were in a frenzy when I visited and I saw two people getting stung, and another young kid walking back on the trail with his parents who got stung.

Finally to all the dog owners who take their pups hiking... PICK UP AND DISPOSE OF YOUR DOG'S POOP, AND IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE THAT... KEEP YOUR DOG AT HOME. I saw at least 8 dog bags left on the trail in various spots. Really people, do you think the dog poop fairy going to take care of that for you? Clean up your shit, or leave the dog at home. Respect our mother earth and leave the trail better than you found it.

9/4/2018 (Tuesday) - Everything is good on this trail from trailhead with sufficient parking places to trail top with good view, facing Bridal Veil Falls.

Olallie lake was a gorgeous spot! Great for a swim and not too many bugs. Water was perfect and it was quiet at the top

Love this hike!!! The surprise view at the end was breathtaking. The day parking pass is only $5.00& you can purchase it at the visitor center off exit 3 across from the chevron. The wilderness pass is free & is located at the trail head. You only need one for the group. Only Max of 12 in a group. This trail is moderate however I’ve seen all ages and many kinds of dogs complete this trail. This is a high traffic trail on weekends & holidays. It took my husband & I about 2 hours to go up on Labor Day, with short breaks for water, photos & traffic. He even jumped in the water to swim!! You will love this view!!

The only reason it gets a 4 star is because of the part of the trail up to the Denny Creek Natural slide area. That trail section is so crowded with people who don't know hiking etiquette, got crowded completely off the trail for oeople stopped in the middle of the trail or people coming down who don't yield and run you off the trail. BUT once you get PAST that section it's awesome! The trail becomes more technical rated moderate and would agree with that rating. The Falls are great fun and beautiful. A great hike with my 15 yr old son and dog. Next time will go further up!
