Great for hiking in the snow! absolutely beautiful. Trafficked but not heavily. I will be back soon.

Completed 1/15. Pretty snowpacked with ice in some spots. Needed spikes almost the entire way. Beautiful winter hike!!

Perfect. Yak tracks or microspikes help but not required.

Great view, fun hike. There were some parts where I wished I had grips for a little extra traction in the snow but you can get by without them. I’ll definitely be going back when the weather has changed to see how the trail is then and maybe even while the snow is still around.

Went on a fresh snow day. It was stunning great views wildlife and moderate traffic. Under the snow there was packed ice but the drag snow kept the walk stable without having to wear spikes. Snowshoeers were out and about. I’d definitely do it again!

Great hike. Light cover of snow made the views beautiful. Snow packed trail, no ice. Wore my boots and had poles.

Few icy spots in the beginning so be careful but it’s worth it

Little icy in spots but all in all a really solid hike with great views!

Fun hike with the pup

Beautiful views! Great hike to bring the dogs with on a leash.

We wanted to do the Mt. Zion Mtn bike but there wasn’t much signage so we ended up on part of this trail. Started at the trailhead with the porta-potties and went a total of 3 miles. Stopped at the mansion and the nature center for a few before heading back down. Parts of the trail had packed snow but basic hiking shoes worked well (went on 01/05/18). Our dog loved it, but we really wish more people would be responsible for picking up their pet’s waste. We never leave home without poo bags, they are so small and easy to grab! Also, as someone else said, lots of kids and people who weren’t actually hikers out on the trail. More busy than we would have liked. When there was a view it was amazing, we are glad we took this trail.

The hike itself is nice the terrain is good although some snow. This is a moderate hike with some great views definitely enjoyed it.
You can access the trail from different points so keep that in mind.

Good hike. Couple of muddy spots and some snow pack towards the top. Didn’t need yaktrax. Nice views.

For a city-style hike it was good exercise but nothing especially interesting.

Pretty much my favorite front range trail. Great, up close views of groovy rock formations.

Good cardio hike near Denver. "Castle" is a bit of interesting history.

Classic "near Denver" hike. No bikes, but parking fills up.

Did the whole loop on a Sunday morning 12/30. Perfect weather and got there early at 10am, finished just after noon. Parking lot filled up quickly by the time I finished. Good hike with varying hills throughout to make the hike interesting; not just straight up then down. Some neat views of Denver. Will definitely be back in the spring!

Did this hike on 12/30. Definitely a good choice for a winter hike. Not much ice or snow at all! We decided to make a loop back to the car. We detoured down Alameda Parkway to Dinosaur Ridge and took the Dakota Ridge Trail back to the starting point. Great views on both ridges!

Well marked and nice scenery. Keep watch for cyclists.

Great hike overall. The previous reviews still hold true — icy stretches primarily at the beginning —until you split for the loop. Crampons helped immensely. Tons of dogs + other hikers out.

Found this trail to be slick in only a few shaded spots on the trail, but poles and spikes were not necessary. This hike is a good excuse to get out and moving without fighting winter ski traffic. Keep in mind that most of the hike is sun-exposed.

Traction needed. Great hike!

Nice hike with pretty views that can be knocked out in 2-3 hours. I went today and would recommend crampons, it was fairly icy.

The Morrison slide switchbacks were enough to put this into the 'moderate' category. It is perfectly flat once you reach the top. The views were fair. I approached from the south and am happy with my choice. I ended up foregoing the last mile down the other side -- it looked open, grassy, and shady (mid afternoon) -- not particularly exciting -- so I opted to turn around instead. Not a bad small trail close to town. Has potential for mountain biking, too.

Amazing views of Denver as well as other mountains in the distance. There were a few people on the trail (We went Christmas Day). There was ice, so please prepare accordingly. This was my wife and my first moderate trail since moving to Colorado. It can be challenging, but it isn’t too bad if you go prepared with water, snacks, and shoes for the ice.

Some icy spots on Christmas Day.

this hike was great but VERY icy. highly recommend hiking poles and/or micro spikes or doing it in the summer!

the views are beautiful, and besides the clear ice it's a very pleasant hike.

Beautiful hike. I made a mistake and took the trail to the top by accident - but glad I did - awesome view!! Got windy on top!!

Nice hike, easy to follow the trail and very pretty views mixed with views of the city (if you're into that.) Definite icy patches scattered on the trail on 12/21 but not enough to warrant spikes. Saw just a few people. Took 2 hours including a snack/view break
