Hit up the Ham Shop for a breakfast sandwich to-go, and enjoy this hike in the morning. This avoids any crowds and allows you to take your time and not rush, so you can take it all in and enjoy. It’s definitely intense at the top, but slower and less agile hikers can still take their time while getting to the top. The views at the peak are well worth the trip up.

I’ve backpacked in the gorge probably 30 times, and this is one of my favorite trails I’ve ever done. I started at 9 am after camping near the trailhead, summited at about 2:30pm, and was at an amazing campsite on top of shortoff mtn. by 7pm. I took my time with the views and didn’t rush, also stopped for dinner on the trail. You definitely want to spend at least one night on this one- there are tons of great campsites along the whole route, and if you can catch a sunrise it will be well worth it.

Great hike. Will definitely do again when the water is lower.

I absolutely loved this trail! There’s lots of rocks so be careful!!! But it was super fun and the views were amazing!

One of my favorite trails. A little of everything elevation, flat areas, beautiful views.

went with the family and a 3 month old Aussie pup. Dont know that my parents enjoyed it as much as I did, but the views are absolutely gorgeous the whole way and it's a great reward for the tough hike. (Mind you, even if you're in pretty decent shape it's tough though)

this place is near and dear to my heart glad I live so close to such a beautiful place the big man above created a masterpiece with this one

Decent hike. Great views at the top. Table Rock summit definitely has more wow-factor.

One of the most beautiful waterfalls we have seen yet!

Me and my friend had a great time hiking this trail. It was a beautiful day. We’re both a little out of shape but we were able to complete it without much struggle. There’s a lot of great rock formations and the view is amazing

Great workout and beautiful views!

Nice hike. Beautiful section of Linville river at bottom. Lots of complaints on here about how steep the trail is. With respect to other Linville Gorge trails I’d call this moderate to easy. There are a few fairly steep sections but you are hiking into a gorge. A little grade should be expected! As far as LG hiking goes this ranks as an easy trail.

Long and at times fairly steep but well worth it. Great views!

This trail is labeled HARD for a reason, but it is so worth it!! In the summer there are wild blueberries lining the path, and the views of the gorge are simply stunning. the campgrounds are also gorgeous.
Be ready for some burning legs! This trail is breathtaking in more ways than one!

Very nice moderate hike. The falls are beautiful. Wear correct footwear, areas are slippery and trail can be very muddy after rain. Great outing to pack a lunch and carry it on your back.

Loved the views!!! Rough hike. Beware. Worth it for the views.

Walked an extra mile because I got off trail. Thanks to All Trails map, I got back on track. A little ways after you start on the trail, you have to take a sharp right. That’s where I flubbed up! Beautiful hike. Rocky, root-y, and steep, and the river and boulders at the river are beautiful! Little streams along the way so dogs have water. Not sure how dried up they get in the summer . Nature’s stair master on the way up....! If you are young and/or in shape, it will be a nice hike. If you aren’t, like myself, it is a work out!!!

As a resident of the area. We live off Wolf Pit Rd and enjoy sharing our mountain to all who want to enjoy it. The road in (Wolf Pit) is a State/Federal rd. It has fallen into a sad shape. We have started a petition to submit to our Representatives to get some agency to take up repair and maintenance of Wolf Pit. Please sign https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/petition-to-repair-and-maintain-wolf-pit-road

Beautiful views ! It was fun walking around the crags. Take extra water for your dog. Steep end climb to the top- hard on a mid50 year old with aging knees and not good shape- but so worth it! Some amazing photos are
posted. Thanks for sharing them!

Love doing this trail starting at 105 or the brp then going up and to the bridge then back down

Best views for the minimal effort required to get there. Good exploring opportunities on the “table top.” Only one mile up, fairly steep, but manageable for most folks and pets alike. 360 degree views await at the top. Trailhead parking offers a launch point for a good hike to short-off too. Saw some great camping spots, but haven’t camped here. Also, not a climber, but some good rock faces for climbing/repelling: May have to compete with Outward Bound for a good spot though. Highly traveled, watch for dog poop.

I hiked this in October 2017.. I am also afraid heights. I was ok with the climb and elevation just rest if you need to but the ladders were a big challenge for me considering they are on the edge of the mountain. but I am so glad I did it. It is beautiful at the top . McRaes peak and attic window are amazing views.. lots of great hiking here.

Great Views!

This is a great quick day hike. The trail isn’t long. I made it up and down in under an hour even with the ice. Went 1/21/18. Most of the snow is gone however there’s ice on the top part of the trail. Last 1/5 of the trail is pretty steep. Go left at the top for an amazing view of the gorge and table rock. Go right for a 360 view! Awesome picnic location.

Fun rock climbing experience for sure. Wouldn’t recommend taking dogs, they may slip and fall easily. Make sure you wear shoes with good grip. Would be really fun to do when it’s warm outside.

One of the most rewarding trails I’ve hiked. I’m absolutely terrified of heights, and wanted a challenge. This trail didn’t disappoint! The pictures of the ladders don’t do them justice, they’re straight up and down at points- a few in a row with only a tiny ledge to stand on in between and a straight drop down. Not for the faint of heart. I saw a few people try to attempt this with dogs, would not recommend doing that. Beautiful views, would go back in a heartbeat.

Hard and rewarding hike. It keeps things interesting with the ladders and cables, definitely would not recommend to someone who is not experienced.

Worth every second. Incredible view. Went when it was still quite cold so there was patchy ice at different spots. It seemed to pose a little bit of an issue for some pups in some of the steeper areas towards the top, but wasn’t unmanageable. Absolutely breathtaking.

Linville Gorge is amazing. It is also unforgiving. Be prepared for some of the most beautiful scenery on the east coast but be prepared to earn those views. My favorite hangout in NC.
