Amazing trail and amazing view! The scenery on this trail changes so dramatically each mile its phenomenal! We completed this hike in 5 hours and 20 mins, my husband, 9 year old son and I.

We did see a single white mountain goat.

Very difficult hike. Think it’s closer to 4400 ft of climbing in 4.5 miles to the summit. Incredible views once above the tree line.

One of favorite alpine lakes. It made for one epic snowshoe. Be prepared for technical shoeing, cold conditions and predators.

Nice winter hike along a creek.

great hike with quarter mile markers to encourage the kids along.

This trail was definitely beautiful the view was unfortunately covered in fog. Went on 11/25 and the higher we got, the more snow there was half way there was a foot of snow on the trail and fog as thick as seeing 5ft in front of you. It would have been absolutely gorgeous and I would of gave it five stars if the fog hadn’t covered our views.

Gps takes you the wrong path. A park ranger told us how to get to the peak. If you go by gps it takes you to a mud/rock road full of potholes and a big puddle we couldn’t cross and came back I think it was when gps told us to turn right that took us off track. The real road to the trail is also an unofficial road but at least it has less potholes and its easier to drive in.

Wonderful hike. Definitely doable in a single day. I spent a night there with my pup. Hiked in after sundown on a Friday, got hit with snow overnight, and hiked out on Saturday. Highly suggest staying overnight. Makes it a bit more relaxing and less of a training session. On my list to do again and again.

10/27 - no snow on the trail or surrounding peaks. Well maintained and no obstructions on main route. Circumnavigation of the lake is possible but not well marked; steep, muddy and poor footing in places. The drive out through Murray and along the river was beautiful. Plan enough time for breakfast at Snake Pit or lunch and beers in Wallace.

Very well maintained trail and not too steep but better suited for mountain biking. The view is somewhat obstructed by trees and a very good workout. I would suggest Chilco for hiking and in close proximity.

Amazing views along most of the trail. The 360 degree view at the top is stunning and well worth the trip.

Amazing views of Lake Pend Orielle. Best view I have ever seen.

Been eyeing this rock from Priest Lake every year I go camping with my family. Took 26 years of me living to finally go and do it and it was well worth it. Breathe taking views! We hiked up to the north side of Chimney Rock and the south side as well. Would recommend getting to the top of both sides so you can get the views from each.
During the summer, this hike would be easiest, but since we did it when there was a little snow in the higher elevations, it became a little harder with having to get over all the boulders with snow on them. I would definitely not recommend bringing young children on this hike if you are going to be going all the way up, as there are considerably large boulders to get over and also steep ridges to get to the top.
Overall this hike kicked mine and my dads (60 years old) butts, but would do it again.

One of my favorites. It’s 8.8 miles round trip.

Stunning hike!! Maps took us a little off course. When you get into Clark-Fork, take Main road and just follow it all the way up. It’s mostly unmarked but at one point it looked like Mosquito creek road/university road. Follow it all the way up and there’s a tiny sign on the left side of the road that said Trail 65 with an arrow pointing right. Take that right turn and follow that road. You’ll see two more very subtle signs that look like ‘65’ mile markers. Follow those and you’ll be at the trail! Round trip was a little over 8 Miles. We only saw one goat and there was no snow yet. It was beautiful! We were told to come back in August when the goats are everywhere. Definitely a perfect fall hike!

This trail has amazing views! We went on a clear, sunny day and was astonished at how much of the valley we could see. The hiking trail is very well-maintained and there is no way you could get lost. When you get to the top it is very windy and cold. I would suggest packing a puff coat in your pack to put on, also having gloves and a hat would be nice. The trail is not very technical but it is a steady incline.
Getting to the trail head however, was a little bit confusing. Once you hit the dirt road just keep looking for the little signs that say trail 65. If you follow those signs you will dead end at the trail head. You go quite a ways on dirt road.
I will definitely make this hike an annual trip!

Did this last Saturday. Could not believe there was snow on the trail. Beautiful hike. Great reflections on the lake

My Birthday hike. Beautiful day,
good solid incline. Little dicey on top near the edge for me but a nice challenge. Fun rock scrambles and beautiful views!
For a rookie a decent accomplishment. Don't feed the goats! Don't feed your fears. Enjoy!

Really enjoyed this hike the history made it even more enjoyable, the scenery was fantastic

I love trails that end in water. climb the Rock!

Gorgeous fall colors right now. Trail is in good condition.

We went there a group of 4 of us today late September. We were planning on doing the 8 mile loop but only made it to the lake and back. The hike to the lake isn’t bad just constant uphill for a few miles. We brought bear spray but didn’t see any bears. Did think we smelled them a few times though. It was a beautiful hike and worth it. Recommend going just be prepared for the wildlife. Also the drive to the hiking spot is pretty much a dirty road on the side of a mountain. My little car made it but I was afraid the rocks were gonna pop my tire a few times. No phone service.

This is a fun hike through the trees and a great view of Sandpoint, the lake and even Schweitzer Mtn. You do share the trail with mountain bikers and we went on a Thursday and saw five hikers and three bikers so it is a busy trail.

I did this trail with my dog last weekend. It is one of the most beautiful trails in the area...very esthetically pleasing. It isn't a difficult trail and would be great "date" trail or reasonable for bringing the kids. It has rich history as well. The overall area is well cared for. You would also be able to get grandma to certain areas as it starts out paved and then it is reasonable level in the beginning, so enough to allow someone with limited mobility to enjoy the scenery, fresh air, and piece of history.
