Nice well maintained trail that is good for all skill levels

These trails are super fun. Mostly easy climbs, a little technical in sections of single-track switchbacks, and the sand in sections requires some peddling. Beginner or expert, these trails can entertain anybody, except hikers. They are indeed multi-use, but the bikers really out number all others.

Great trail.

GPS tracking app I used showed 7.45miles around the loop. Fun trail to run! It includes gradual inclines, and nice downhills to keep it interesting. All the bikers we came across were nice about telling us how many they had in their group coming, so nice community to run around.

A very solid moderate trail for starters. I was also surprised how hilly it was compared to how flat Michigan is. Benches and markers on trail.

great mix of forest & fields. awesome boardwalks and lots of flowly single track.

You have to pay. Sorry, nature walking is free.

Great trail, we walked opposite bike path and had no issue walking...bikers always courteous

Great trail for a hike. Very few people but you do have to make sure to watch for mountain bikers - they come at you fast! The trail connects with dirt roads a few times and there are no markers or indications which way to go so download the map before you go so you can track your progress. The trail in general is not well marked and having the map as backup was helpful. I walked counter clockwise based on recommendations here - you start at the back/right of the parking lot. 8.12 miles according to Map My Run app. Beautiful scenery!

I went here to hike the 12 mile loop but it was for mountain bikers mostly and didn’t want to get run over. However, this trail is quite the gem! I started around 9:45am and there wasn’t many people. Very quiet walk and absolutely beautiful trees and scenery. The trail was also mostly completed shaded! I will be back.

Did the Penosha and Kahchin trails a couple days ago. Well marked, get paper maps at the gate. All trails start off the parking lot at Bishop Lake. Very few bugs on the day I went, using a basic low-Deet bugspray. Looks like the previously eroded areas others mentioned have been reinforced with rubber [recycled tires?] gradations to prevent future erosion. Saw a few people on the Penosha nearer to the far parking area, but otherwise it was quiet. Great hike in a wooded area. There is a paved half-loop around Bishop Lake that was very scenic. Swimming area at the lake if you plan to cool off afterwards.

Good hike! A lot of sites to see, also a nice lake in the area. Will visit again!

This is the red trail loop at Ft Custer. This is a really beautiful trail, lots of changing scenery! As with the green trail, it is mostly very narrow and lots of blind curves, so if you're a hiker I would recommend hiking towards bike traffic. Stay alert and get out of the way... in my experience on these trails, bikers don't have much time to slow down.

Nice trails inside city limits, easy walking for everyone. Can expand the loop or reduce it for easy time management. Like it for a small walk in the woods.

This trail was a great work out but it was so much fun I really didn't care. Great downhill, going uphill had the perfect upgrade. Did all the trails except the black one (sawtooth I believe). To top it off I got to see 2 fawns. Can't wait to go again.

beautiful land but far too many bikes to make for an enjoyable walk with the dogs. have to be on high alert 100% of the time watching for them around tight corners.

Holy mosquitoes and bad directions. Nice terrain though.

A great trail. peaceful. A very enjoyable afternoon. I took my time, and enjoyed every minute of it.

Amazing ride on a MTB, awesome hike, too! Challenging but not crushing, you’ll feel it!

It was a great hike even on a warm summer afternoon. Very few mosquitos right now. The trail is not very wide and there are lots of mountain bikers, so hikers be alert. There is the occasional low hanging branch, but other than that, the trail is well maintained.

Completed the full 17+ mile loop a few weeks back. Well marked and the trail was very well-maintained. The campsites partway through were nice to stop at for a water resupply. Would rate the trail as challenging due to the numerous hills, but definitely doable. Some beautiful views along the way, though the mosquitoes made it so that our stops were very limited and short-lived. Would highly recommend, just bring some bug spray with you and be sure to dip your tired feet in the lake afterwards.

Amazing mountain bike trail for intermediate riders

Really cool trail, but much too narrow of a single track for mixed use. The mountain bikes come at you pretty quickly. The lack of signage is frustrating too. If you’re hiking this trail, download the map ahead of time. I won’t hike it again, but think it’s a really nice, challenging trail for mountain biking.

Love this trail!! It’s so much fun!

A friend and I did a modified version of this trail and we found it to be great! Trails were marked well, everything was well maintained, and the campsites were clean and beautiful. I did get some bites from mosquitoes but a little 100% deet kept them at bay. Just don’t stay out past dark! Would definitely recommend!

Beautiful trails! They can get buggy so spray before you walk :)

Great trail with young and old tree growth.

Accidentally turned onto the horse trail but didn’t turn back because I thought it would intersect again with the hiking path. It finally did but not til I reached the other side of the lake. Easy to navigate, lots of wildlife, lakes, ponds, swamps. Met up with a deer under a tunnel of trees, which was pretty cool. Just getting into hiking, this was my first trail. I would do the trail again.

Its not a difficult trail but it is a hard trail, that is VERY BUGGY, there is no relief from the mosquitos, the campsites for backpackers are a little tight but they are nice. Again they are not bug free, and it seems like bug spray is like ringing a dinner bell. The hand pump for water at the campsites is however a great bonus, its ice cold, and no it does not have a funky taste. It is definitely challenging, but a good beginner trail for the hobby if the biters slack off later in the season. The 3 stars are because of the bugs.
