High clearance and decent tires are your safest bet getting to the TH, I made it in my Chevy Cruze though, so make good judgment calls before heading to this trail. Beautiful day on the trail and amazing views at the lake and above! Compact snow is very icy!

One of the best hikes I’ve ever done. Challenging but worth it. Road is washed out so it’s 2 miles to trailhead. From trailhead you climb 3000 feet in right over 3 miles. At 3.2ish you’ll reach virgin lake, it was frozen over today (11/17). From virgin lake it’s all downhill to Blanca lake, about 0.82 miles. Snow was packed down but yactracks and poles were super helpful.

Stunning hike! Highly recommend. The drive up is pretty rough but it’s worth it.

This was a great hike. Well maintained. Disappointed about the fog but an added bonus to have the ability to drive to see the view! Fog burned off on the way down, so we drove over and enjoyed the scenery!

Went backpacking with my daughter, her 1st trip and it was a perfect blend of difficulty and reward. At the top of Ingalls pass,we did get confused on how tondrop down into headlight basin as there were branches placed blocking what looked like the obvious way down, but after a bit of a scramble we made it. plenty of creeks for water. Recommend scrambling up to the lake from the basin (counterclockwise) as there were hardly any people. once we got to the lake there were himers who took the clockwise trail to the lake.

Rain at the TH turned into a blizzard at higher elevations, covering the trail. Got as far as the ridge then turned back for safety. Still a fun experience and beautiful view even through the precipitation.

I havent hiked in 25 yrs.this was my 2nd hike in a few months an it kicked my butt.i do have some lung disease.but it was so beautiful an the scenery was breathtaking..

This was a moderate hike for the most part, the last 0.75 mile is mostly just navigating through giant boulders and are harder than I was prepared for. Them cairns are a lifesaver if you navigate without a trail map. The lake in itself is gorgeous, Ingalls peak as backdrop is what makes it so much better. I took the short and steep route on my way to and from. Got lost like five times on the way back, would highly recommend a trail map for this one. Took me 6hrs RT. 3.5 hrs to get to the lake and 2.5 hrs (and I forcefully slowed down on my way back to spare my knee a day of recovery). I somehow missed the goats. But other hikers mentioned there were 7 of them. If you can peel your eyes away from the trail, Mt Stuart is just such a stunner. Definitely gonna go back on a summer day.

Also, the drive along teenaway road was just out of the world this fall!

generally: moderate hike a few hours from seattle with varied lansdcape with mountain views and gorgeous alpine lake at the end
trailhead: road unpaved from last few miles, doable in any vehicle though, parking at trailhead and along road, decently crowded on a weekend as this is the trailhead for numerous hikes/backpacks
trail: good condition, not overgrown, near lake becomes a bit of a scramble over large rocks/boulders but doable
scenery: gorgeous mountain views on way up, alpine lake at top, backpacking sites before the lake in meadow area; in october amazing larches
saw ~ dozen people, mostly backpackers heading out

Intense elevation gain but a good length and the views are beautiful. Saw lots of dogs!

Awesome hike with great views the whole time. The first part is exposed to a view of the mountains, then transitions back into rocky ranges as you make your way towards the lake. Most of the trail is an easy incline and pleasant. The last fourth of the trail to the lake is the most challenging, requiring some scrambling over rocks if you lose the easily lose-able trail. The lake is gorgeous. We went up in about 2.5 hours and down in a little under 2 hours. 5-hour trip total including the stop at the lake. The larches had already turned but still very recommended. The drive to/from Seattle is stunning.

Completed this trail on October 17th. We went for larches and goats and we saw tons of both! The trail is a moderate/hard perfectly graded the entire way! Seriously impressed on the upkeep of this trail. I will be back to do this again. No knee pain or toe crunching on the way down which makes for a perfect hike.

The hike its self is just ok, but the glimpses of aqua water make it well worth it. There is a ferry at the end of the trail that will bring you back to the parking lot. I found it hard to get info on it. It departs from the end of the trail twice a day 8:00am and 3:00pm. It was $10 cash and allowed dogs, this was the highlight of the hike for me.

It was beautiful!

Enjoyable hike in perfect fall conditions. Started hiking around 10am with air temperature just above freezing so dress appropriately. The trail is in good condition but lacks any signage so be sure to follow the directions, particularly bearing to the right at the T. Arrived at the ridge around noon.

There are not much in the way of views on the trail to the pass but once you reach the ridge the views are magnificent. The trail to Navaho Peak is steep but well worth the extra effort, Rainier and Adams were both clearly visible.

Be aware, modern firearm hunting season is now open and there were hunters walking on the trail during my return. I wore my orange jacket and hat to ensure I was visible.

Very beautiful ! it was harder than I thought , especially it was no trail , muddy and rocks before we see the lake

Amazing views! Glacier peak, vibrant lake’s color and even the fall’s colors.
It’s a difficult and steep hike but completely doable. (I don’t recommend it for families though).
The road to get to the trailhead isn’t too bad, some small potholes.

Went there today. Very beautiful golden larch. Parking lot was full when I got there at 8:10. I had to park my car on the side.

9/29/18
Such a great time of year to see all the beautiful autumn foliage! The kids (10, 14) & I really enjoyed this one.

Beautiful hike. Tons of people, but still had sections of quiet solitude. Golden larches against the snow were beautiful. Micro spikes were helpful for a quarter mile section.

Awesome hike, the road up was pretty wash-boarded. If you want to go all the way to the lake, bring micro-spikes -- the trail gets snowy/icey at the end

Hiked Summit Lake on 10/6/18. Saw about 20-25 people the whole day. Lots of dogs on leash including ours. The trail is very well maintained. This is one of my absolute favorite hikes! We started up later in the day, hitting the trailhead around 12:30pm. We met people coming down who didn't have the opportunity to see Mt. Rainier earlier in the day. Our late start meant we were able to get some gorgeous peek-a-boo views of the Mountain when we reached the trail summit. Perfect day!! Yes, the road up is rough, but the parking lot was full so it is definitely not deterring anyone. Please remember to pack your trash out.

ROAD IS WASHED OUT STILL and will probably be forever. Arrived the road/new TH @ 8am. Plenty of parking still. The road hike is about 2 miles. Very easy start. The road is flat for the most part. The start of the actually trail noted and the trail is well kept. This trail is switch back city and you will be ascending the whole time until the peak. The peak is just before Virgin Lake then it is literally all down hill from there until Blanca... Blanca...... is like WOAHHHH... the lake is insanely gorgeous. Took us about 3 hours to get to the lake for a total of 5.5 hours roundtrip. A MUST-DO for experienced hikers. Please review before heading to this trail. Saw a family (of bigger proportions) hitting this trail at like 4pm. I am not one to judge ones ability but no water bottles from what I saw and a late start could spell disaster. If you don't hike this will test your legs. Go prepared and brings snacks and water. The lake is worth it but go early. Hiking in the dark unprepared is dangerous.
