We completed this hike 12/15. We started at 9:30am and there was plenty of parking at the TH. First one third of the hike is mostly clear of snow. We used microspikes the remainder, although they were not necessary. The trail has a good number of switchbacks and breaks up the elevation. We took 1.5 hours to summit— my recording had the summit at 3.0 miles, my total recording was 5.9 miles. Trail is well marked and well trafficked.

Blodgett offers decent views for Colorado. The trail's not well marked, so it's easy to get off track. Furthermore, there's a lot of loose gravel.

Beautiful Packed snow trails. Micro spikes came in handy. Chicago lake was amazing

When the higher powers give you 50 degree days with little wind in December, you take advantage of it. Repeat hike on 12/14 up Deer mtn. Left around 2:45 which was later than planned so the last 1/2 mile to car was pretty dark. Wore thermal and fleece which was unzipped most of the way. Put on gloves and ski cap for route back. Going up I had only my trail shoes and was fine. But the snow has melted and the water has turned to ice. Definitely needed spikes for most of route down which I had in my pack. Wish I had more time at the top.

Great hike, definitely didnt feel like a 6 miler. Easy and fun, plus we saw birds and deer and climbed on the rocks for a while.

Hiked 9.22. Great for a first 14er but a bit to many people on my way up, especially at the summit. Took the east side of the mountain down to the lake and hooked up to the abyss trail to make a loop out off this (makes for a 10+ mile hike). Much more secluded just watch your step as you are hopping boulder to boulder on the way down the side of the mountain. One wrong move you'd go down pretty hard but that was the most fun part for me. Also easy to lose yourself in 6' tall and dense shrubbery. Had to just power through some sections to find the trail again on the abyss portion.

Great hike with several places with amazing views before getting to the summit. Last .2 miles can be a little tough if you have breathing problems at altitude, like me, but going slow is just fine since there is enough room to move out of the way for faster people.

You do need some sort of traction as you get deeper into the shady areas since there was a fair amount of snow.

Definitely would do this hike again since the views are incredible.

Great view at the top!

Awesome trail! Started a little too late and made it nearly a mile from the end and it was getting too late and we were too tired to go any faster. Right now only need mircospikes, snowshoes don't seem necessary if you stay on the hard packed trail. Trees blocked most of the wind. Definitely will be going again!

Chilly day up the trail. A mix of packed snow and sandy snow. Traction not needed.

Love this hike! Took off 12/9 at about 930a. I had spikes with me in case but never took them out of my pack. Wind was down and sun out so a thermal undershirt and fleece jacket was enough to keep the cold off. I had gloves and ski cap and took both off at points during hike as well. Few icy patches but lots of exposed ground in the non shady spots. Always see wildlife around the big open field before heading into trees. Some good inclines but the switchbacks keep the elevation manageable. Great views of the Fall River side of park.

The trail was great yesterday! Partly snow covered but not difficult to manage at all. Views are killer. Wasn’t too busy either.

this was a fun and challenging hike for a flat lander. the snow added an extrsma challenge. I took off at about 10 AM so it was still cold. I didnt have much of a problem with footing. I only had hiking boots on, no spikes. it was ok going up, but on the way down, about 1 PM it there were some slick spots which just meant I had to slow down. the views at the summit were worth the hike. there is a great view of longs peak, the only 14er in RMNP.

Today the view was spectacular. The trail to the summit was 1/2 dry and 1/2 covered with a light dusting of dry snow that was crunchy but not sloppy or icy at all. The snow was less than 1/2” deep.

Did this hike 11/30/18, started around 10 am. Was beautiful. Spikes and poles were helpful to about St Mary lake. Went a little further but snowshoes definitely are recommended for heading up any further. I will definitely be back with my snowshoes!

Absolutely beautiful hike. I went early Friday morning and had the trail / glacier all to myself. I was glad I had my spikes and hiking poles. I was able to get quite a ways up the glacier. Snowshoes would have been helpful toward the top.

Beautiful. Trail is packed down at this time. Microspikes are helpful but probably safe without them. Beautiful.

Update: Made it to the top with the proper gear (micro spikes and walking stick), and was still difficult. The entire trail is now pretty much is covered in snow and ice. With most of the trail being under the trees it will probably be like this for sometime. Highly recommend micro spikes and dress in layers if you attempt this trail in the next few months.

Trail extremely icy. Snow melt and refreeze creating an ice crust.

Beautiful and easy hike. A bit uphill in the beginning. I was happy I had microspikes but snow shoes would’ve been helpful, especially if you want to explore around. It’s windy once you get there. A face cover would be wise to bring in fall/winter. Also was envious of the smart folks who brought sleds for the downhill back!

Particularly good on a post snow winters day. The view is worth it

Just amazing! This trail kicked my tail, if it’s during the snow months bring micro spikes. There was a lot of ice making for an adventurous trip back down. The views and scenery breathtaking.

Extremely beautiful!!! Make sure once you hit the first lake, to keep going. Did this hike over the summer and was beautiful the whole way! Not sure what the blue bomber is speaking of! Peaceful and gorgeous.

Attempted to hike this trail, however about one mile into the trail where you will be doing a lot of rock climbing the trail was very slick/icy. Since I didn't have my micro spikes had to turn around. Highly recommend crampons or micro spikes due to most of the trail is tree covered and the ice/snow will be there for awhile.

Did a 10 mi. loop that included other lakes. Wild flowers in late July & spectacular views of other peaks could not be better.

This is a great hike to do in the winter. The trail is easy to follow even with fresh snow and it may be the only time of year you don't have to fight for a parking spot. Nice steady climb to Evergreen Mountain through very thick forest. Some nice views from the top of Evergreen. Currently a lot of snow and some icy spots. Although we did not break out the Yak Trax they would have come in handy. This is a nice hike close to Denver,l Just keep in mind it gets very crowded when the weather is nice.

A decent hike with a gradual climb and ascent to a nice view. Some snow on the trail made it slippery in spots, but overall a moderate hike on easy terrain.

amazing hiking, even in the winter!

11/16/18 - packed snow/ice all the way up to the lakes. Carried snowshoes but didn’t use them, only used microspikes but could’ve been done without. Very few people past TH, nothing spectacular until the views above treeline. Damn kids doing there vaping stuff around Echo Lake, hopefully the fruity chemical flavors they crave will end up killing them sooner than later so when we go out to get fresh air, we can breathe it instead of breathing their second hand vape smoke!!!
