Must Do Map

Recently I had the great fortune of hiking to Lake of the Woods with two of our sons. We took a chance, late in the hiking season, to travel a small portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. This wonderful little trail offered a variety of terrain, lakes and foliage. While challenging, in my current athletic ability, this well-traveled trail gives the day hiker and backpacker stunning views and beautiful scenery.

We had the lake to ourselves for two days. Clear sky and beautiful weather with temps in the sixties daytime and low thirties at night, made for a fantastic trip!

We will be back to this little gem again!

Scenic hike with a small waterfall along the way and some very scenic views of the lake. Beautiful colors on the lake as it gets later in the evening.

Beautiful easy trail !

Beautiful and scenic hike

Nice, slow climb for about an hour. It’s not too challenging, but it makes you breathe hard. Well maintained trail and beautiful views of the lake and South Shore. Mountain bikers flying down the hill are dangerous and a nuisance what with the dogs on the trail. Be prepared to pull your dog off the trail in a heartbeat. It’s not exactly relaxing.

Beautiful views of Lake Tahoe. A nice waterfall with ice on the edges of the stream. Not a lot of wildlife. Annoying mountain bikers for whom you have to step off the trail. It seemed possible to take the Tahoe Rim Trail south to the Gondola and then ride it down, but we didn't attempt it.

This one is a walk in the woods - a sweet little meandering trail that never gets too strenuous and offers scenic views of the Carson Valley below. The trail follows the curves of the canyon and was quite kid friendly once you get past the initial ascent. We saw several mountain bikers today, so be aware of this, especially with the frequent blind spots around switch backs.

Nice casual walk. Awesome panoramic view of the lake.

Like previously stated the end was anticlimactic. It ends at a fork in the road. However, there was nice views.

Really beautiful. Not too busy, lots of friendly people on the trail. The end was a bit anticlimactic in my opinion because it didn’t offer as beautiful views as the earlier part of the trail. Lovely hike though.

Nicely maintained trail. Only took it up to the first waterfall and it was a nice route that can be done in an hour. Great view over south lake tahoe at the Vista Point only a couple hundred vertical feet up the trail

Although not as immediately grand as Lake Aloha or Clyde Lake, Lake of the Woods is really just as beautiful and has the added bonus of feeling even more secluded and peaceful. Plus you can always add Lake Aloha to this hike as it isn't much further.

day use parking ok..crowded on a saturday..barn trail to cal neva loop had most activity..connector an easy to moderate hike..some water starting to flow across trails..took kb north down..family of deer foraging for winter..cyclist advice..ended up on Edgewood residential street following a forest or service road down to Kingsbury hwy then down hwy 50 back to car...so make sure ur app or map with u
..great for families on barn trail or cal neva loop

This trail was my first experience hiking and I loved it...

This is an easy trail
With fun side trails to explore. It is not a hard trail and not a long hiking trail. Take this trail if your looking for a nice walk with your wife or girlfriend. (Not both might get you in trouble lol). The beach is awsome and there was joone on it due to the campground being closed for the season.

Very pretty, peaceful trail.
I went on a somewhat stormy day so I didn’t come across to many people.
Trail easy to locate, a little odd because you begin basically walking on a sidewalk in a neighborhood. Lots of parking.
Trail passes through a magical little creek tucked amongst a grove of aspen trees.
Trail is very dog friendly! However when you reach Nevada beach there is only a very small section where dogs are allowed :(

Beautiful hike!
Trailhead very easy to locate with lots of parking.
Trail is clearly marked and not very rocky.
Incredible views of Lake Tahoe.
Pretty, small waterfall.
Dog friendly!

Easy hike, short, and very scenic. Only downside was the many tourists, as the trailhead is basically in the backyard of the casinos.

Wonderful and fairly easy track. Throughly enjoyed the fantastic view of Lake Tahoe.

Nice trail with beautiful views. A decent climb to the top.

We been coming to Lake Tahoe for decades now and never knew this trail was here. Nice trail that is well used and marked. Nice down by the water.

Quite the climb but worth it. had to set the pace to endure the at least 3.5 mile climb up over rock steps in points. waterfall is cute but not the main feature in my opinion, the views looking down on beautiful South lake are gorgeous on a sunny day. there are sections of trail both in exposed sun but also plenty of dense shade so there is a great variety. getting up to the TRT is worth the accomplishment but not climatic. the perfect spot for the best photos is about a quarter to half mile past the waterfall to get the full photo ops. go further and you'll see into another canyon, at the end you'll see down in the Nevada valley, I believe Carson valley but hard to get a great pic through the trees, could have if I was interested enough. would like to do the TRT some day.

Beautiful views and a very pretty little waterfall.

Kind of a disappointing backpacking trip. The permit system kinda sucks if you want to be secluded...After the first night, backpackers can camp wherever they want, not just in their zone. Cathedral Lake ended up being extremely busy and there are only two decent places to camp. Also, be very aware that people will be hiking up the the peak of Mt. Tallac as early as 3 AM to catch the sunrise. I understand hikers need to be loud to warn bears, but blasting electronic music and hollering was a bit much.

beautiful views of Tahoe

great walk for all ages. 2yr old to 73yrold! too cold to swim at this time of year. beautiful scenery.

This was a great trail 9/15/18. Most hikers observed the dog on leash rule. Great views from the first Vista Point! Next time, we will go looking for the waterfall.

Nice hike with an amazing view. Recommend this hike to get started...then go tryout different other hiking trails.
