Hiking

This was a great endurance trail. I started at the college and went up to the peak, I tracked just over 8 miles and about 3.5 hours. Going towards mission peak it’s mainly incline, great workout. The way down the views are beautiful over looking the city and the hillside. Only one restroom near the peak, not much tree coverage either, don’t drink to much water. Last thing to note, it is very windy at the peak and a lot of the trail so be careful.

Brutally hard. Anyone that says anything different is lying to you. Three miles just to the base of Mt. Olympia, then it's steep, then it gets steep up to North Peak, you get the idea, but don't forget about the descent down the peaks, also steep. Took about 8 hours and I was hauling ass most of the time. Bring a lot of water, a lot of snacks, and very comfortable shoes.

If you like lots of foot traffic, dry mud fire roads for the trail, grass, and cattle, then this trail may be for you.

HikingGreat!Snow

Climbed this trail on 2/26. Started off in Yosemite Valley at around 7:15am and went up the Snow Creek Trail to Mount Watkins. The switchbacks had little to no snow on them but the rest of the trail once you reach the rim was covered in snow. We carried micro spikes but didn’t have to use them. I would recommend snowshoes on the last 1000ft climb to the summit of Watkins (we were sinking knee deep in the snow on this last stretch and the hike became extremely draining). Nonetheless, we summited around 1:30pm and were back down at the valley floor by 5pm. This hike was 14.2 miles round trip. I would definitely recommend this trail for the experienced adventurer during the winter season. Make sure you take enough water, snacks and headlights in case it gets dark on your way back down. Snow Creek is an awesome trail and provides jaw dropping views of Half Dome the entire way. I feel like this trail is a hidden gem inside the valley since it is often overlooked and not as popular as the 4 Mile Trail and Upper Yosemite Falls Trail. We were the only ones to summit Mount Watkins today and we saw only 1 other person on the trail. Follow my Instagram account for more dope hiking content! @sertanusanmaz

Hiking

What a gorgeous day, and the hills were so green! So happy to finally have this done! I both over and underestimated that hike. Definitely challenging, but the lack of distance means it’s over and you’re on the way down before you know it. Glad I did it in 50 degree weather. Don’t know how people do that in the summer! Headed out at 8:30 on a Friday and was done by noon. Saw lots more people coming down, tho going up still passed a fair amount of people already wrapping up their day. Only really felt crowded at the top. Saw lots of ages of people and a couple of dogs. Only a couple bikers. Most everyone was masked and/or socially distant with only a few people not following rules. It’s so much gravel and rocks, and then very rocky at the top. Was surprised everyone shimmied back down the rocks at the top vs going down the back of the trail. It’s hard to see to go that way, but the app made it clear there was a loop. It seemed like I was the only one who did that, but no complaints because it was peaceful and mostly solitary for a whole mile. Grateful for the super clean and TP stocked pit toilet about 2.8 miles in.

HikingGreat!

This was such an awesome hike! Parked at Curry Village parking lot and walked on the road to Mirror Lake Trail. Went to the north route by Mirror Lake to the Snow Creek Trail. There are 108 switchbacks (we counted!) to the top. Only a couple patches of snow on the trail- easily maneuverable but once we got to the top, snowshoes were necessary. We crossed the footbridge which was covered in snow (approx 2’), then wandered around in the beautiful winter wonderland. Then turned back. Only saw 2 people on the snow creek trail. And, yes- 108 switchbacks down! Super steep but super beautiful views into Yosemite valley, Half Dome, Clouds Rest, etc. Worth the climb!

RunningGreat!No shade

Feb/March is the best time of year to hike MP! Things are nice and green now and still cool, making the conplete lack of shade much more bearable. Going from the Ohlone side as shown here makes the experience more enjoyable, as it is much less crowded compared to the gravel freeway coming from the Stanford Ave side. Even so, I recommend going early to avoid the crowds and heat of the day. It is always busy on the weekends, but has calmed down significantly compared to the height of covid lockdown.

Medium to difficult but worth it once you reach the top . Too bad it was affected by the fire but it’s still worth the climb to see Lake berryessa topview.
